Bitburger Wirtshaus - Chicken cutlets in a mushroom cream sauce with spaetzle

I spent a week in Trier so of course we hit up Bitburger. As you know if you've spent any time in…read moretrier, there's not a whole lot to do...after a few days I'm pretty sure I exhausted most of the activities. So of course, I steered my group to the best looking pub of sorts to drink and hang out. I ended up going to Bitburger twice, once for dinner and once just for drinks. I was pleasantly surprised by the tomato basil soup. Trier was chilly, given that I was used to Texas weather at the time, so I wanted something warm. The soup was velvety and thick...most tomato soups have a very runny consistency but this thicker version was just the ticket. I can tell they use fresh tomatoes and cream, which made all the difference. I used up all my bread for dipping, and asked for more! And I was tempted to lick the bowl clean. The cheesy spatzle I had was decent--not the best I've had but had a nice texture and was piping hot. The salad I ordered was pretty generic but had a nice oil and vinegar dressing. The service was slow, but since I was not in a rush I didn't mind so much. Maybe not the best place for a quick meal, but the warm and slightly dark atmosphere makes it a great place to eat and drink with friends.

The staff is super friendly & the menu has a nice selection of German specialties at a reasonable price. The food was absolutely delicious & the portions are large. The beer was great too!

Nice people here, and they were very accommodating to us as our German is very limited. The menu is…read morein German, but if you k ow some basic vocabulary or have Google Translate on your phone you won't have any issues. Beer is the usual local fare to the area (IE Bitburger and the like). The town the restaurant and hotel is in should be on a postcard. It's in a (often) foggy valley between hills, and the river runs right through it.

NEW I found this little gem on one of my walking adventures…read morewith my puppers a few weeks ago. I was surprised to see a hotel/restaurant combo in such a tiny village. I saw some people in the garden/courtyard area of the restaurant so thought I would stop in. I was told by a gentleman that they were not open yet but please come back in about 2 weeks. I stated that I would and asked if I could bring my dog with me. He said "of course". I went back today with a few friends and the dog. The were open for business and we got to sit in the biergarten/patio area that I spoke of earlier. It's a small area with about 10 or so tables. It was a bit chilly today but they had small throws at each table for the customer's comfort. I saw the proprietor/server that I had spoke to the last time I was there. He is the most helpful and wonderful host! He brought out a bowl for the dog's water. He offered us a tour of the place and gave us a bit of history. He and a colleague very recently purchased and renovated the place. We ordered our drinks and were brought out some cute little containers of popcorn and corn nuts for munching. A hot tea, coke, beer and a shot was only 10 Euros. Cute little succulents on each table, and blooming flowers around. There is a table off to the side that is a bit more secluded. This place is absolutely charming. It is small and renovated gorgeously. More renovations are taking place and I wish I would be here in Germany long enough to see them. Only 2 more days in this country, but I will try to get back to try the food before I leave. There is a cozy bar inside that seats about 6 or so people at the actual bar, plus tables for more people. There is another courtyard on the other side of the building which is just as adorable. The owner stated there are about 8-10 rooms. The village is nestled in a small valley and offers a quaint train station and many biking/hiking trails, alongside a babbling brook. The hotel is next to a church. All the churches in this area are sites to see. Sadly, there is currently construction that blocks off road L2 cross that brook, so plan accordingly when you go. And you should definitely go!
