I'd rather die without insulin than ever talk to anyone here again…read more The workers go out of their way to talk down to me. We came in here to try to apply for Medicaid after moving from Illinois. It isn't easy-- it's as if the applicant is assumed to be a scammer. I'm diabetic. I haven't had prescription coverage for the whole 6 months we have been here. My husband is disabled. He's been in the hospital several times and this was the first time we could both come in since September-- which was the last time that we could both come in. Last time we tried was at a different location so that's not relevant here except to note that they requested more proof of income and a letter from Illinois to confirm that benefits had ended. Nobody in Illinois was answering the phone, so we ended up waiting until benefits (which only covered his emergency room visits) expired. That wasn't good enough. Fine. I understand bureaucracy... but the way this worker glared at me and "who is this? What's her name? Oh... the wife." I'm sitting in the car crying while David tries to detach our "cases" so that he can see a doctor for follow up after a stroke. This is sick.

My case workers name is Marina Kaio... And when I tell you that this woman is an absolute saint.. That is an understatement.. My case is always a little challenging because it shows I'm still employed due to being seasonal... This amazing woman genuinely cares about the people she's helping.. She went so far above and beyond making countless phone calls to get a hold of my employer and previous employers until she was able to obtain the information to help get my case moving forward!! I feel so beyond blessed that she was my angel case worker.. Any other case worker would have called once and given up if they didn't answer I've dealt with that before in previous years and experiences with dwss... But not Marina!! She just was so patient and kind and diligent... I'm in tears because of the kindness she extended to me... I hope everyone has a "Marina" in their lives too this holiday season!!
