Our vet listed CPVETS as the emergency vet hospital to go to. The receptionist on the phone handled our call professionally. We received a call back in less than 10 minutes informed it was the best decision to come in. At the clinic, after calls and check ins, the vet tech, brought our dog in from the car (probably around 20-25 minute process). The vet tech was kind and spoke to our dog nicely to ease her in. They took the necessary care to help our dog out. It is nerve wracking to wait in the car but I can understand that it may be better to wait separately from the care facility. We were relieved and they called us immediately to let us know & close out our visit. I don't have price comparisons as I haven't went to the emergency vet before. However, the price wasn't alarming compared to normal vet prices for an 80 pound dog. I appreciated that this was clear, concise, and that they stuck to the care we thought our dog needed. Waaaay over priced kept my dog 4days for a bladder flush and didn't even find the reason the dog had needed that 2 weeks later had to take he to a real hospital found out the problem 7000 $ there and 500$at real hospital then had to be put down for 250$ if they found out the real reason could of saved id say quite a bit they push that Care Credit to cover there big bill .i told all i know never go to that place its just a 24 hour vet not a all around hospital . read more

We took our dog in who had fallen and was not putting weight on his back foot. He was examined, sedated, and X-rayed. We were told he had a sprained ankle. He was given meds and sent home. We were told 7-10 days he should be fine. 10 days later he was still not putting any weight on his foot. Took him to his normal vet for follow up and their X-ray showed it was broken in 2 places. Wrapped his foot in a "cast", needing to go back in weekly for re-wrap and a 6-8 week healing time. CP vets completely misdiagnosed him and charged a pretty penny for i! Unacceptable. read more

My cats anal gland ruptured, they had me waiting SEVENNNNN hours in my car. I get emergency situations but what... that's insane, it is a 5 minute procedure to drain glands. They didn't even fully drain the glands, I had to go to another vet later that week, and the other side one was completely full. They didn't even lightly sedate her!! (Which they did at the other vet) I would've paid the 38$ to do that as they told me she was yowling in pain, which again the other vets were suprised they didn't! shame on me, I had a very unpleasant experience with cp vets at their old location on Feb. 1, 2020, but I decided to give them a second chance at their new location. what a mistake, my dog had diarrhea, loose, bloody stinky stool. a bowel infection. for the 165.00 intake fee I got nothing. I took a stood sample and guess what? with all of the vet techs you would think that someone would be able to perform a analysis while I was there almost six hours. they are severely under staffed one doctor per 12 hour shift, and it is my opinion that they should not be trying to provide 24 hr service. When I did get to see a doctor all she wanted to do is take x-ray or ultrasound, I did agree for bloodwork but by then i put my foot down and all I wanted to do was get out of there before I had to pay taxes. she had the audacity to make the statement that some people have put their pets down for less than what i was agreeing to provide. YOU HAVE OPTIONS METZGAR ON BENNER PIKE if you're needing after hours care. I'm debating whether or not to contest the intake fee to my credit card company. I had to give it mouth to mouth. we got to this place which they said they would be outside waiting which they were not. for four hours they did not one test waiting on payment. 1500 to 3000 dollars was the estimate. I'm thankful for the care the vet on staff did for my cat but this place is absolutely horrible when it comes to actual compassion for people and their pets. I took my cat in yesterday morning because he was choking on his food and couldn't breathe and instead of being more concerned for my pet who was DYING the front desk staff was more concerned about us paying $1000 for just walking in the door, didn't even specify what it was for, and tried to stop the vet from preforming CPR on him when I didn't give her $500 just for CPR, thank god the vet and technicians didn't stop but are you serious?? All of this right in front of my little sister, a kid who was just as scared as our cat was?? I know this is a business and they need money to get paid and to pay for their supplies and equipment not to mention the price of convenience since this is an emergency center but our cat was dying in my hands at the front counter, I literally left the house with my dad and kid sister in our pajamas with $165 to our name, we weren't given the chance to apply for the CareCard or any other type of payment plan because they wanted the money first before anything else and told us we could only apply afterwards. They didn't charge me based on what was done for him or what was needed to save his life, they tried to charge me based off of just walking through the door. They cared more about the money they could get out of me than they cared about saving my cat who still ended up dying anyways so if I did pay the $1000 I still would have had to turn abound and pay the $70 for burial fees. Absolutely horrible. AVOID at all costs. They don't care about the animals whatsoever. My pup got dragged by her neck into the vet as she was crying and peeing herself out of fear and the nurse couldn't care less. She didn't even take the time to greet my puppy and immediately started dragging her once the lead was put around her neck. Not to mention prices are up the arse expensive. I have been taking my pets to CP vets for the last several years now, last week my dog cut her nose wide open and was gushing blood, so this was around 3am in the morning she cut her nose on a broken mirror. So as any dog owner you would rush your animal to a vet correct? I grabbed everything I could and grabbed as much money as I could out of my savings box in my house grabbed my little dog and traveled 40 minutes to State College for her to be seen. I had blood all over my shoulder and hands blood was all over my back seat and front console of my car. Anyways I accidently left my wallet at home and I only had $80 in cash on me and was going to pay to as soon as I got home I was hysterically crying they did not give a shit about nothing. They checked my dog said Shes not even bleeding anymore meanwhile they told me they couldn't fully see her till they get paid first she was literally bleeding the whole way home that from 4am to 11:30 am I had to hold pressure on her nose to stop the bleeding thankfully her actual amazing vet got her in the same day and she had to get two stitches on her nose. This vet does not care about animals unless you pay, they don't care if you travel so many miles/minutes or hours, they don't care if your pet is hurt unless they get money first. I have been coming here for years, and this is the last and final time, all I got was "well we can't do anything without the full payment to be seen" YOU guys couldn't take the lousy $80 till I got home to call over with my bank information? I called Sunday April 28@4:30am. My dog was sick, had gotten over pancreatitis 2x prior, had large amounts of loose stool with blood. Called them and the girl that answered the phone was horrible. Last Friday I received good, compassionate care for my dog's UTI, and I am grateful for that. Everyone on staff was very respectful. Dr. Coleman was very kind and knowledgeable in answering my questions. However, a 6 hr wait, was a bit much. 5 hrs passed without even a urine sample being taken. I understand that critical situations arise - that's to be expected at an Emergency clinic. Decepttive answers, we lost our pet at CP.Vets and chose the cremation option for her remains. We where told that the cremation would not be private but that we would recieve the remains after wards,, They just may contain portions of other cremains as well. When we inquired in regards to the location of the remains we where told that we where misinformed and would not be reciving any of our cats remains. My family is especially devastated that they have lost their beloved pet again. After 4,400$ for just a bit over 24 hours of care and surgery that only ended exacerbating the issue. I took my dog for an issue that they fixed however I had told them I think she hot spots, which means your dog will chew relentlessly even if bleeding starts, after 6 hours of sitting in my car and a hour drive home I look and she has a chunk that she has chewed raw while in thier care. No precautions were in place for my pup when I stated a problem I think she has, it's abusive and cruel they should not be allowed to operate a clinic. read more

we took my mother's pregnant in labor dog in they called out and said that the puppy was too big to pass. She had to have surgery. They wouldn't touch her without money. When my mother started crying saying she didn't have that kind of money the woman VERY callously told us that they would put her down for $200!!!!!!!! (she could've been nicer) I told her come get the money and to help my moms dog so she doesn't have to suffer any longer. They came out within 5 or 10 minutes. Got their money then went back in. Then we watched other animals walking in on leashes and coming back out for four hours, and they never touched our dog. I took my dog there with a stuck puppy in the birth canal. The only option they offered was a C Section with a price of $3000 to $3700 which I could not afford, then it was to euthanize her. We were going to do that but changed our minds and decided to try a different vet. I took her to the other vet in the morning who removed the puppy without surgery because she was willing to take her time and cared about my dog. I called tonight for assistance and was rudely told our parking lot is full with stuff like this I cannot give you medical advice over the phone and hung up on me. We were counting on you for help for our sweet, smart, gentle old girl and you were willing to let her suffer. This is a plea to CP vets to do what they advertise and be able to treat rabbits. CP vets is the only place veterinarians who treat rabbits in all of Central Pennsylvania can send us during emergency hours and holidays. If turns out that they hired a vet who is very allergic to rabbits. This is beyond unethical to me. It's heartbreaking that CP vets claims to offer emergency care for rabbits yet does not have someone always available to treat them. My 13 year old dear rabbit, Daisy, was clearly in pain and dying last night. We wanted to have her humanely euthanized rather than suffer. We knew what had to happen. She was mistreated and neglected the first few years of her life until we got her and gave her what, we hope, were 10 good years for her. She deserved to go in peace and instead we were referred to Pittsburgh. Metzger's said they would do it after initially saying no, because they don't handle "exotics," and referring us back to CP. I literally *begged* both places to please help her. On Sunday evening our 13 year old yellow lab, Gandalf"s stomach began to swell shortly after our evening walk. He also appeared to be having difficulty breathing. Since our vet was closed and as his office recommends CP Vets, we decided to bring Gandalf to CP Vets. We called ahead and brought him in. Gandie was seen immediately: x-rays were taken, he was given pain medicine, and oxygen, and the doctor came out and shared the findings and diagnosis. Because of Gandalf's age and other health issues we decided not to put him through the operation, and made the necessary, but difficult decision, to put our beloved fur-mate and wonderful companion to rest . CPVets are a phenomenal outfit. They saw our bulldogs immediately after they accidentally ate raisins (potentially lethal in dogs). The intake staff was incredible responsive and professional. The interview and examinations were meticulously performed which inspired confidence. The veterinarians and ancillary care staff blew us away by their knowledge, professionalism and compassion. After vomiting was induced, our bulldogs we kept at the very clean facility for i.v. hydration and close observation for 48 hours, with interval blood tests. They did beautifully and were discharged uneventfully. As a side note, one of our dogs had been ailing for quite some time, and they diagnosed the fact that he was having congestive heart failure, enabling treatment by our vet and he rallied! Had a bitch with a diifficult labor so she was brought here for help delivering the remaining puppies. By the time she was brought here she had been in labor for around 18-20 hours. The vet on call never looked at her and instead, sent a technician to give instructions...which amounted to waiting. Went to the other emergency vet in the area where they did something to help her and the remaining puppies were delivered. Sadly, three days later the puppy born last passed away (to be fair I cannot say treatment here resulted in his death, but it can't be ruled out). On a positive note, the head vet has been in touch to resolve the incident. read more

I can't speak for dog and cat owners, but tread carefully if you've got exotics. If the animal is actively dying, they'll probably be able to help, but I've been in twice for parakeets and the staff was definitely out of their comfort zone. They were patient and willing to work with me, so we could at least work around that. With exotics, it's going to be a toss-up whether you'll get a vet who really knows what they're talking about and there's not a lot they can do about that. It's an emergency clinic; they can't really afford to have a specialist on staff all the time. Just make sure the vet's transparent with you about their qualifications and get an appointment with your regular vet as soon as your pet is able. read more

I have a very sick kitty.per Dr. Ellen, I took him to CP Vets to be looked at . Now it is 2 weeks later and he is still sick. His symptoms were such that a full blood panel and x-ray.should have been done. All they did was test his T-4 level, told me it was not diabetes, gave some probiotics and an antibiotic, charged us $243 and sent us on our way. They didn't even ask if they could do a blood panel or x-ray. Now he is vomiting silver something. To those of you who can relate, this is my baby and best friend. We have been through a lot together. If anything were to happen to him, I would be devastated. I tried to tell them how much this kitty meant to me. But they could have cared less. I tried to take him to his "regular" vet; they told me they would call me back right away. It's been 2 days!!! Now my kitty is vomiting more. If I were you, look to another vet. I have waited a very long time to write this review as I wanted to make sure my review was non emotional and not affected my cats painful death. On our way to the vet that Friday night, my cat, Nittany lost control of her bowels and my husband was panicking as she had just vomited before we left the house. We arrived to the waiting room around 10:00PM. There was 1 other couple in the room with their dog. The young lady behind the desk rudely asked "who is this, do you have an appointment?" Hmm, well since we are at the emergency room at 10:00PM, no, we do not have an appointment and this is our cat who we feel like is dying. Coldly, we were asked to fill out the paperwork and wait for the veterinarian. I understand that emergency vet personnel are very familiar with dying and sick animals and they do not personally feel the sadness or the urgency the owner is feeling, but come on, a little empathy can go a long way in this profession. We waited for about ten minutes before being brought back into one of the appointment rooms. Ten minutes is a long time when you know your cat is dying. The vet technician asked us about the symptoms and medical history for Nittany and then took our baby to wash her, take temperature and take blood (I never gave permission to take my animals blood). While we were waiting in the room for Nittany to return we heard an extremely loud wailing coming from another cat. We looked outside our room and saw that the wailing cat was in a cage right next to the examination table where Nittany was. Of course Nittany was freaked out. There were several vet technicians standing around the table laughing and talking about nothing related to animal care. One of the vet technicians saw us standing outside of our room and assured us that Nittany would be given right back. Once given Nittany back we continued to wait for almost 45 minutes before we just walked out because we never saw the vet. The only good thing they did was not charge us, because even they knew they gave terrible service. As for our experience at CPVets...how dare they hire and allow young unprofessional people to be in charge of highly emotional and vulnerable customers. Shame on you Central Pennsylvania Veterinary, you're an awful business for taking advantage of people in the community. Negative zero stars. read more

The staff at CP Vets saved our cats life. He was not himself for about a day and a half and seemed uncomfortable. We found out he was dehydrated, had a urinary tract infection and was diabetic. The Doc went over everything involving his care and they gave us an estimate for the treatment. He spent 2 full days at the clinic and we were called twice a day by a Vet with updates. If there were additional charges for his treatment we were told the price before anything was done. We were told to call anytime with questions or concerns about or cat and we stopped in unannounced to check on him and that was not a problem either. I hope none of our cats ever need emergency treatment again, but if so and our regular vets office is closed we will definitely bring our pets here. read more

Please do not take your animal here. If you have any love for your animal take it to another emergency vet even if it is farther away. We took our very ill cat here and waited over 2hrs while he was suffering and in serious pain while numerous other patients that came in an hour later were taken immediately. When we finally got escorted back they made us wait even longer. When she finally came in she looked at our cat got a blood sample tested it and claimed that it showed kidney failure. She showed no simpathy or any emotion at all giving us two choices one being euthanasia or an extremely expensive continuous treatment. Not having the funds and not wanting our beloved cat to suffer we went with euthanasia. Nobody should have to wait this long to watch there beloved pet suffer just to have them euthanized. On top of this we had left our cat there to have him sent to be cremated. We left him with a blanket he loved very much and we told them specifically to give us the blanket back and not to have it cremated with him. They ended up loosing our blanket. This place just needs to be shut down and every single worker needs to loose their licensing. If i had to do it over again I wouldve traveled so much further to give my cat a second chance and lookover. So please do not go here. read more

These vets (Dr Parks)is more of a detailed billing artist then a doctor! Betting she has more experience in trumping up outrageous charges then she does caring for animals.These people prey on the weak and injured and are truly very sad people!They tried to jerry rig my animals problem till I could get into see a REAL vet Monday morning.My animal went out the front door same as it came in only with a 400 bill for 30mins work..If anything he was in more pain then he showed up with. People you better hope and prey your animal has issues during the week because its sad when the receptions lunch delivery and getting her hubby to make errands is more important then getting patients into be seen!
