We took the last train of the day, so unfortunately we did not get to tour the museum as we were running late, but the train ride was amazing. The steam engine train is not running right now, which was a bummer, but they still run rides on a diesel engine train. We had a very funny conductor that kept us entertained. The ride was very peaceful and tranquil and on an older train so we appreciated the tranquility. There were not many people on the train with us, just two other couples. We were almost running late and the employee met us at the coach to give us our tickets, which was appreciated. The ride included pictures of the Chehalis River, scenery, wildlife, and more. The train and coach were definitely older, so we appreciated that classic vibe. I do know they also have special event dinner rides and such as well that they host several times per year. Overall, I definitely recommend the Chehalis railroad tour. It was a great experience!

It's one of the best places in the greater Portland area to experience the full spectrum of autumn arborea, from late September through November, including the scenic drive when approaching from either direction. It is, perhaps unsurprisingly, one of the most photographed structures in the Pacific Northwest. If you do happen to luck out and arrive in the early afternoon hours on Saturday (and maybe Sundays again, in the future), you're treated to a handful of volunteers demonstrating the operation of the milling machines, and providing inexpensive bags of fresh flour and other milled materials for purchase by "donation", the proceeds contributing to the maintenance and operation of this historic site. There are also hands-on opportunities for kids (and adults!) as well as informative posters and infographics that give a glimpse into the history and operation of the mill during its heyday. Private tours are available, as well as booking options for weddings, rehearsals, and similar events, with information available on-site, and on their website.

It's truly top notch, and as my old man builds, scripts and funds museums, I've been to more than my share. The variety of exhibits, the excellence of the writing in the narratives (the one on the Coast Guard rescues in the bar is heart wrenching and moving), and the sweep of the architecture make this a truly excellent museum. I didn't have any issue with the staff as some have written about, and I cannot imagine anything they could have done diminishing my enjoyment of this museum. The exhibit was smaller than usually thanks to the second floor remodel, and it was okay but not great; worth the $5 but not much more. Kind of cool to see the skeleton casts of a mosasaurus and early large fish but otherwise a flop. The passport stamp locations are the only spots that talk about the presumed cause of extinction for each age so you don't really get to read them as small kids are trying to stamp their pages. Also, there is no mention of current monsters of the abyss like the giant squid, angler fish, or giant isopod.

Also, she keeps you abreast of the openings and closings of the museum. The museum is typically closed during the winter season but opens during the weekends in the summer months. The last time I was there she said you are the first ones in so no charge. I bought a pin on the way out for $10 as I want to support this great and fun place. She doesn't have a true gift shop as of yet. But they are moving around the exhibits to put one in the front of the museum. I'm excited as they had a small one in the middle of the downstairs in the past and they had some fun items. Most of the stuff you have to see to believe and it's all unbelievably quirky which adds to the overall fun of the place. I try to go each time I'm in town. It's well worth the $5 admission. I'll definitely be back again.
