Cowes Bandstand is one of those odd places. It looks rather like a 1960s over-sized bus shelter and certainly not a bandstand.
Pretty unused at present (although comments have been made that a regular programme is desired) it provides an acceptable sea-front location for bands.
I played there with my band in 2008 on the day of the Round Island Race. The view of the boats coming in was amazing but, as a bandstand, in its present form it leaves much to be desired.
The acoustics are non existent and it is very windy. The audience has nowhere to sit at present as the bandstand faces onto a car park. Roping off part of the car park helped but trade is passing rather than static.
As an audience member I wouldn't have stopped for long as there was nowhere to sit. Maybe this will be remedied if plans to bring it back into proper use come to fruition. Still, as a passing bit of entertainment it would have been good! read more
