I was looking for a trainer who would teach kids how to really ride horses safely, improve their skill levels and motivate them to succeed. I love that her lessons are close to full hour of riding, not just 20 minutes like many other places. I love that she teaches kids to learn from each other. I love the compassion she has for her horses and students. I love how my daughter has not once told me that she is "too tired or sick" for a lesson. We tried few other farms before Patti's; many had an attitude of just cashing checks and having kids trot around for fraction of the hour. Patti will teach you or your child how to actually ride horse and improve your skill. Three years later, I have a daughter who is confident rider and a never-ending love for horses. Best money and time I have ever spent.

The trainers here are great. The owner, not so much. Kristi is the most unhelpful person I've ever…read moremet. The round pin? Broken for 2 years. She hasn't fixed that but she has bought herself a $40000 horse who she rode for about 2 months till she stopped riding it, leaving him in his stall for weeks at a time. She has 7 horses all of which are neglected, one has a deformity on its hind leg. She should've been put down years ago but Kristi wanted to keep her alive so she could breed her. One of her horses is severely underweight, multiple of them don't leave their for months at a time. The stable has a huge pile of manure that she doesn't clean up, but again, she has the money to build her daughters a softball cage. Do not come here, one of the worst owners ive ever met.

The Eddie's story is a sad one, but it seems selling the property worked out the best for everyone involved (most importantly the horses). The place has had a LOT of work done since being sold, including completion of the owner's house overlooking the stables (which was just a stick frame for many years). It's not the finest stables in the Bay Area, but definately affordable and much better than what it was. Convenient location on Bear Creek Road just five minutes out of Boulder Creek. Seems to be headed in the right direction.

We don't necessarily work directly with them, but just being around them and in such a peaceful environment is unbelievably calming. The owner of the ranch and therapist, Michelle, is truly amazing. I've had a couple of therapists in my life and only ever really connected with one -- and I can honestly say Michelle is now one of those rare people. She has the softest, most soothing voice, and she creates such a safe, welcoming space. She's so easy to talk to, and you can genuinely feel that she cares. She works with anxiety, depression, childhood trauma, all kinds of trauma, and she's even helping me navigate the emotional side of living with chronic pain. That alone has meant so much to me. If you've been thinking about therapy but haven't found the right fit, I 10/10 recommend giving this a try. I would like to say that Briarcliff is the premiere boarding facility in Santa Cruz county. It has been my experience that the horses are well fed and cared for, the property is beautifully maintained and we are able to have our preferred Shoer and any Vet we choose. The owner is on the property 24/7/365 and always has her eye on the horses, making sure they stay healthy and happy. If you truly care about your horse and the care it will receive, Briarcliff is your only choice in Santa Cruz county.

I have ridden with many instructors and trainers, and I've learned so much from Sharon in the few months I've been at Willow Pond. The facility is peaceful; no drama, and plenty of space to ride. Having a covered arena is great, and the footing is good as well. Lessons horses are well trained, safe, and well taken care off. Sharon is a patient teacher with both adults and children, and she is very safety conscious. I like that she also rescues horses when her budget allows; you don't always see that with all riding facilities.
