Covenant is a very nice funeral home with very nice and dedicated people to help you during your time of sorrow. It is very expensive though, it will cost you at a minimum of 11 thousand dollars, but they make sure everything is taken care of and give you time to grieve. Well having spent my week helping a friend who's Mother passed on Monday, I have come to the conclusion that the greed of some companies cannot be matched or tolerated. The Covenant Funeral Services Fredericksburg, VA, has got to be one of the greediest and most heartless companies I have ever run across. When a family is at their most vulnerable and when they need the understanding of others, these vultures put greed above caring. They offered no alternatives except that she have the entire fee paid in advance, even given the low income package with no viewing only a burial service they expect her to come up with $6500 plus $1200 opening fees in 3 days, Monday afternoon to Friday morning. Then if it is not paid in full they will just put her in the freezer for a recurring fee till everything is paid. This is just heartless and I don't fall for the we get burnt on no pays, they have the same legal recourse I have on a heat pump installation. I have found most people will pay even if it is slow. Most businesses don't even get a deposit before work is complete. Seems to me there is a contradiction in terms with the $7700, paid in full in basically 3 days and "low income package." Hard for me and most of the people I know to swing that kind of money in 3 days in this economy. Just a damn shame that you have to be put through this kind of abuse when you lose a loved one. read more

You can definitely tell the Mullin Family is no longer at Covenant. We recently buried my father during COVID. A funeral without visitation and a very small service was $11,000. We were charged for a limo to take flowers to the burial site but there was only 1 flower. We were charged for a viewing even though there was no viewing. More important than the charges were the lack of services. We were told to provide them with the playlist and they would download the music. We provided 8 songs. We were then told if we wanted more than 4 we would have to do it ourselves. We had a video of pictures. They didn't have it set up. My niece had to do it. We asked to leave our coats in the family room and were told, "no, take them with you". I wish I had known the Mullins were no longer with Covenant. read more

When my close friend and neighbor passed away last year I was impressed by the beautiful service and the care that everyone was shown. Unfortunately my father fell I'll and quickly deteriorated this week and we were faced with a lot of decisions and paperwork, with my mother grieving I didn't know where to begin. The Covenant family has been extremely helpful in wading through all of my father's insurance forms and even helping my mother with his retirement and 401k. I'm very appreciative of the gentleness they have shown, making sure we're not troubled by confusing forms and stressing phone calls to HR departments. I expected a hefty price tag but even that is reasonable. When the unfortunate happens they are a full service facility. I would not hesitate to call on them again. read more

I've had nothing but wonderful experiences with Covenant. Unfortunately, I've needed their services a number of times during the past couple years, but they've been nothing but professional, respectful, extremely accommodating, and ultimately an establishment that I could TRUST. They have an extremely friendly family environment, and they're very responsive. They assigned a gentleman to my "case", and he has been nothing but extremely helpful. If I called on his day off, they made sure to pass a message on him him immediately and he usually called me within a couple hours. We had a very specific set of circumstances, and if there needed to be research done, he made sure he did so and responded accordingly. I came to really appreciate Covenant's level of service because i worked with a couple other funeral homes (not in the area), and realized how difficult it was to find a trustworthy service in such circumstances (there was transporting and other issues involved). It's unfortunate that in a time of need, so many of these businesses take advantage of you. I hope that I don't need to use them again any time soon, but if I had to, I have no qualms about going back to Covenant! read more

My wife's grandmother, who we were caring for since February, recently passed away. We were not prepared for Grandma's death and did not have any of the funeral arrangements made. Our situation was challenging because Grandma was going to be prepared in Virginia and shipped to Puerto Rico for the funeral and burial. Stress mounted quickly upon Grandma's death; however, a friend recommended Covenant Funeral Service, and once we made contact, our stress level quickly subsided. EVERY SINGLE ASSOCIATE that we interacted with at Covenant was truly empathetic and caring. The funeral director walked us through the entire process with compassion as if he was a part of the family. The funeral director also went above and beyond to get Grandma's body back to Puerto Rico. My wife's family in Puerto Rico scheduled the funeral for the weekend after Grandma passed, which created a challenge because the scheduled flight would not get the body to Puerto Rico in time. The funeral director eased our anxiety by assuring that he would get the body to Puerto Rico in time for the funeral and that he would cover any additional costs associated to the flight.
