When I realized I was about to miss my colonoscopy after spending a dreadful day preparing for it, I found With Gifted Hands on the internet, called Mona and explained my situation. She kindly accepted this last-minute job and fit me into her schedule to get me to my appointment in the nick of time. She returned later to bring me home. Mona is very caring, professional, and easy to talk to. I can definitely recommend With Gifted Hands.

I am writing to you because my direct experience with your Baton Rouge services has been…read moreinfuriating and I wonder if anyone at headquarters really knows and/or cares what goes on in your local offices. It began in November when my mother was hospitalized to receive a permanent trach. A representative from APRIA came to her room, cabled a suction device and placed it in a carry bag for us to take with us for home use. In the middle of the first night at home, the device was needed to clear secretions from my mother's lungs so that she could breathe. We removed the suction device from its case, as cabled by your rep at the hospital, plugged it in, turned it on and attempted to suction the secretions that were impeding my mother's breathingThe device had been cabled incorrectly by the representative who set it up at the hospital. Apparently a new style of receptacle (with which the rep was apparently not familiar) had been provided and the rep, rather than ask someone or call or otherwise research how to hook it up to the suction device, simply plugged things together. As a result, upon first attempted use at home, secretions were sucked into and hopelessly clogged the filter, rendering the device inoperable. Worse -- the rep had provided the demonstration of how to set up the device not just to my family but to a room full of nurses who had assembled in my mother's room to "learn how to use the equipment." I shudder to think how may other families went home that night and had similar failures of equipment. Think of the newborn infants, elderly, frail, etc. To make things even worse, when I called the APRIA contact that night to say that the device had failed and to seek an immediate remedy, they said that since it was not an oxygen machine, they could not come out and service it (bring a replacement machine or replacement receptacle)!!!!! I asked, "so it is NOT okay with you that my mother suffocate for lack to oxygen due to a failure in a piece of your oxygen equipment, but it IS acceptable to you that she suffocate by drowning in her own secretions?" The response was that that, yes, pretty much, that was your policy. For your convenience, I would like to quote from your website on the subject of Patient Satisfaction: "Patient satisfaction is at the core of everything we do at Apria Healthcare. The lives of those we serve are directly impacted by the care we provide, and it is our commitment to provide top quality service." Your order processing department has also been a dismal disappointment, most notably when processing and actually delivering the first few orders. St Elizabeth's Hospital Physician's Group placed an order for a nebulizer for delivery to the house within 24 hours. There was a slight delay of a 1/2 day to get some codes straightened out and then we were told Thursday morning that it would be delivered Thursday afternoon. On Friday it has still had not arrived. I called the local office to try to track it down and was told, "oh, no, you have to come pick that up unless there is some reason you can't and then we see if we can make some special arrangement to get it to you and, oh, by the way, we don't deliver to your area until Monday." (!!!!!!!) I told them that communication on the matter would have been helpful and they said they had called my cell number but no one answered. I checked my cell phone for ANY calls that were missed, there were NONE(!!!). So you can add lying to my list of complaints about your company. The representative asked if Monday was going to work for me and I told them we had been expecting it since Wednesday, so, NO, it really wasn't going to work for me. Then they said well maybe they could get it to me some"time tonight after 6" but they didn't seem to be sure on that one. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE???? HOW CAN YOU RUN A BUSINESS THIS WAY?? HAVE YOU READ YOUR OWN BROCHURES?? DO YOU MEAN ANY OF WHAT YOU PRINT OR SAY?? DO YOUR STAFF MEMBER RECEIVE TRAINING ON NEW EQUIPMENT?? DO THEY UNDERSTAND WHAT IS LIFE-THREATENING AND WHAT IS NOT? ARE THEY ALL WORKING OFF SOME SCRIPT WITHOUT THE ABILITY TO THINK OR MAKE REASONABLE DECISIONS ABOUT WHAT MAKES GOOD SENSE FOR YOUR CLIENTS OR YOUR BUSINESS???? I have reached the point that my vocabulary of negative superlatives fail me in order to adequately express my low opinion of your company. I have shared my experiences with any health care professional (doctors, nurses, therapists of any type, medical administrations, etc.) who makes the mistake of asking about your company or our family's experience with it. Oh, and by the way, I frequently get silent, knowing nods of agreement, so apparently I am not alone in my impressions and frustrations. Even if you care nothing about the pain and suffering of your clients and only care about providing mediocre, high cost, high profit products/services, you should care about the potential for lawsuits.
