I had seen more rheumatologists than I could count. Most days I couldn't get out of bed. By chance I stumbled upon Dr. Alan Kivitz and my life began to improve. He is the one who, with much trial and error, correctly diagnosed me with Lupus and I now take monthly infusions of a drug called Saphnelo. I credit Dr. Kivitz with saving my life because for many years I no longer wanted to live. Many who know me say they can't even tell I have Lupus as the drug is doing wonders. One word of caution: If you are looking for a doctor who holds your hand, speaks of unicorns and rainbows, and generally spends an hour on trivialities, this guy is not it. However if you're looking for a doctor who has been published in the New England Journal of Medicine, owns his own practice (with over 100 staff), has been in practice for over 40 years, and is committed to finding an effective treatment for everyone he sees, then you need to book an appointment with Dr. Kivitz immediately. When addressing concern/question with Dr. Kivitz, he is quick to dismiss the question to point of being condescending. Staff without name tags on to disclose role. Staff offended when ask their name or position. Staff sitting around eating chips and drinking. Did not see one staff member/provider washing hands or practicing good hand hygiene. No gloves. Did see Angie, PA one visit and she was very thorough. Dr. Kivitz needs to focus first on his patient's care, then ask patient if they are interested in helping him with his research. His behavior is inappropriate and basically just rude. Please take my review to heart and find another doctor. As a health care professional myself, I would not recommend Dr. Kivitz. Basically felt like a specimen for his research.

They accept some insurance, which is awesome for a chiropractor. They accept credit cards, and accept payments for future services. When you go back to see the chiropractor, it's a short visit. Answer some questions and talk about yourself for a bit, then get in the table and within 5 minutes, you're headed out the door to carry on with your day. Great place, very convenient.

I had an outpatient procedure here where they put me under…read more Upon waking the nurse shoved a glass of ice water in my face and told me to hurry up and drink it, then urinate and get out because she had other patients that needed the room. I was just waking up and in shock. I looked around while still groggy and she got even more angry at me that I hadn't started drinking the ice water and started shouting that I was being charged for half a day already and that if I didn't hurry up and get out, the hospital would charge me for a full day. I asked how long since I had been out of the procedure and she informed me that I had been out of the operating room for 30 minutes and 45 minutes is the maximum they allow for outpatients to use the room. 45 minutes and charging patients for a half day and a full day if you don't immediately wake up and run out the door and say thank you. It's sad that hospitals are allowed to charge people like this and the UPMC business ethics sure shine through their employees with how they treat customers. I mean.. imaging being charged $60,000 to be treated like a piece of dirt and then shouted at, and told afterwards that if you don't hurry up and gtfo, you'll be charged even more. I imagine if you were an insurance auditor and really started running numbers to calculate how many outpatient surgeries were done in a day versus how many half day charges for a bed were being sent to them. If I were an insurance company, I'd be sending all of my auditors to UPMC Bedford and asking to look through their books. If I were a lawyer, I'd be looking back on how long they've been doing this and at how many other locations, this practice is happening. I imagine that a really good lawyer could make their retirement happen early on what he or she finds.

However, I am very happy to say that ALL of the Doctors, Nurses, and Secretaries who I met that day at UPMC were extremely friendly, helpful, and professional. It was very obvious that they were working very hard to make me feel at ease and their professional attitude made me feel confident that I was getting the best possible care, and I was! The procedure was done flawlessly and fortunately with good results for me. I of course do not look forward to having this procedure done again in the future but at least I know that I will be in good hands when it is done again by the knowledgeable, professional and caring Staff at UPMC Bedford Memorial. I love dealing with Dr. Erlichman because she is a confident Ophthalmologist and it shows in her work that she is knowledgeable and very experienced. I had my cataracts removed this year by her and I am still very happy with the results. I have intraocular lenses put in after she took all the cataracts away! For the first time in 20 years, I can see at a distance! I enjoyed my latest vacation because I can actually see what my husband points out for me. Everyone at their office is certainly respectful and professional. The place is always full of people. You can get checked out by the Ophthalmologist or optometrist and select your frames from the same office. And the Hospital is across the street for the surgery! It is so convenient!

I have been a patient at Blair Medical for about 10 years and during that time the two ladies at the front desk have not once been nice or accommodating. When walking into the office they not once have greeted me, as well as, I have stood at their window on several occasions for well over 5 minutes before one of them even offered to help me. It is such a shame to see the professionalism of the medical staff be completely diminished by their receptionists. I don't know why they do not let these two individuals go. I normally do not do this. Today, I feel the need to honor two individuals. Be prepared to read a…read morebook. My son was having a mental health crisis, he is an alcoholic. He called the office during non working hours. I thought he would get a doctor from who knows where and would be told to call back on Monday. I was shocked when he said he talked to Dr Sabrina. She listened to his concern, for well over an hour. She sent the police to make sure he was ok and not going to harm himself. The police were wonderful with him and even went into the woods to help him find his medication. They offered to take him to the hospital to get an evaluation and he refused. They left him with a card and numbers to call if he felt he needed to go. A little while later he was still not back to himself. So he called Dr Sabrina back. She again talked to him for a very long time and tried to convince him to go to the hospital. He refused again and said after talking to her he was feeling better. A little while had passed and he got a phone call. I heard him say, Kendra you are my angel, you always make me feel better. He put her on speakerphone and paced around the room yelling at her and telling her he wasn't crazy and all kinds of things. She did not one time yell back at him. I listened to her calmly talk to him and reassure him that what he was feeling was normal in his state. She offered to call an ambulance to come and take him to the hospital so he could get his medication. She even offered to come to the house and talk to him and take him herself. She talked to him for well over an hour. He said that he wanted to give it a little bit and see how he felt. He asked if he could call her back. She agreed and gave him her cell phone number. She told him if she did not hear from him in 2 hours she would be calling him back. Well he did try to call her before the 2 hour mark but it would not go through. But at the 2 hour mark, his phone rang and it was his "angel" on the other end. He kept reassuring her that he did try to call her. He explained that he was feeling better and I was going to stay with him. I asked if I could talk to her and she agreed. I just wanted to thank all of them for everything they did for my son. I told her I would call the number if I thought he needed someone. She gave me her cell phone number and told me to call her if we needed anything and we hung up. My son and I had an ok night. This morning his phone rang and again it was Kendra. She was calling to make sure he was ok and to check on him. She told him that if he needed anything just to call and that he could come into the office tomorrow at anytime if he felt he needed to be seen. These are the type of people you recognize. I'm not putting this out there because we want sympathy. I'm putting this out there because these two individuals worked tirelessly to make my son feel whole again. Not once did they make it seem like he was bother to them. They were kind, caring and compassionate. These are the kind of people we need. Did I tell you, this happens after hours on a Saturday and Sunday. Please thank them from the bottom of my heart. They might have saved my sons life and not even realize it. Beth Ann
