As far as a first winery in our honeymoon to Bordeaux, Couvent des Jacobins was wonderful. A centuries old former mine start where the monks grew wine-its now been in the same family for generations. A small winery growing only 25 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, merlot and cab franc, it was still a very impressive place.
Noémie took us on a private tour, first out on a tuktuk (think golf cart for us Americans) and we went out to the vineyards. From there we toured the bay room and the underground limestone cellars. This was an awesome part of the tour where we saw the family's private collection of thousands of bottles from 40 years worth of vintages and a the rest of the wineries collection that will eventually be sold. At the deepest part of the quarry, 9 meters I think she said, we did a blind tasting of 2 vintages and I reinforced my knowledge that I don't know a thing about wine. But Noémie was patient and pleasant and showed us a great time.
Bought 2 bottles at the end to take with us and left thrilled and satisfied. You need to make this a part of your trip to Bordeaux. read more
