Basic. Comfortable.
Neil B.

There is much to like about this Marriott Courtyard for a night or two; friendly staff, it's clean, in a good location, a comfortable bed and a reasonable price for a downtown hotel. But there are also areas that are in need of improvement; a musty mildew smell in the bathroom, ripped curtain in the bedroom, breakfast not included and an overall a need for an update of the entire guest rooms. So if you don't need a five star upscale hotel, Marriott Courtyard is a good choice to consider.

Overall this was okay. Nothing fancy nor updated but it was okay. The staff was nice for the most part. Due to covid, your room isn't serviced everyday which I wasn't aware of. Pets are allowed which is nice and pleases know you have to pay $30 a day for parking. The breakfast wasn't buffet or automatically included. However when I booked, I got breakfast included. You get a voucher card and get to order a meal and a drink off the menu but it doesn't include any of the Starbucks drinks. The food wasn't the bes. The omelette was gross but the French toast was okay.

In early September, our train from New York to Boston was stopped in Providence late at night due to flooding of the track and area ahead so we booked a room at the Providence Marriott Downtown to hopefully be able to resume our travel in the morning. Our stay was shockingly bad--from the attitudes of the employees to the condition of the room. Everything reflected such a pervasive lack of care that it must be a top-down management issue. * SHUTTLE DRIVER: It was pouring rain. The shuttle driver that came to pick us up at the Amtrak station drove past us--so we had to walk to him--and then he made no effort to help us with our luggage. He didn't even open the back of the van from inside. Instead, he just sat there as we struggled to lift our luggage into the passenger area of the van, where there were no luggage racks, while negotiating our umbrellas in the rain. When we got to the hotel, he again made no move at all to help with our luggage. * NIGHT-TIME CHECK-IN FRONT-DESK CLERK: She was not warm or welcoming, and barely helpful. Not quite how Marriott advertises "Bonvoy." My husband's sister had tried to book the room using her Marriott points to help us out in this emergency but the points did not go through/could not be accessed. The desk clerk was not concerned or helpful. *THE ROOM: The room was old, with mismatched furniture, no plugs on one side of the bed so either my husband or would have had to plug in our phone somewhere else in the room. *THE BATHROOM: - Had worn, thin towels , - Had mildewed grout, and - Had mildew at the bottom of the shower curtain *THE ENVIRONS: We were so tired an just wanted to get some sleep before resuming our interrupted trip home in the morning. It was after midnight when we went to bed only to then hear extremely loud banging sounds coming from outside. We listened for awhile to see if it was just a momentary thing--but it continued. We called down to the desk and the new clerk who had come on after midnight informed us that unfortunately there was road work being done right next to the hotel and nothing could be done about it. *THE COST: $284 for the night. Outrageous--especially given all of the deficits. When we got back to Boston, my husband contacted Marriott to let them know that our room and our stay had not been good--especially given the price and how Marriott advertises their philosophy. The manager sent a banal email that he was sorry that our experience was disappointing but that he hoped we would stay with them again. That was it. Really??? Horrible, horrible, horrible. Never staying at a Marriott ever again.

Random hair in shower when we arrived
Rose D.

Paid $550 for reunion weekend for a small dark dirty room. Found hairs in the shower and around the toilet and debris in the sink as soon as we entered. Towels had stains. One coffee pod was available. This is price gouging at its finest.

Review Highlights - Courtyard by Marriott Providence Downtown

We stayed here last Friday night, came in from Boston for a game at the Dunkin' Donuts center and decided to stay rather than drive home

I'm so sad that I cannot give more stars to Skyline at Waterplace…read more Their venue is in such an INCREDIBLE location, in the heart of downtown Providence right on the river. They have a huge balcony that overlooks the river and a ground level patio that walks right out to the river boardwalk. We were able to enjoy Providence's Water Fire with private, front row seats. It was a priceless experience Despite all of that, the interior spaces are very, very small and oddly shaped, making it very hard to move during an event. It also makes it very difficult for the staff to maneuver in between tables, causing a major traffic jam when it comes to meal time. I'm not sure what happened when we were there, but there were MAJOR delays and mix ups during our event. So much so that the wait staff actually forgot to serve our entire table. By the time the realized this, they served us ice cold food that was over cooked, over salted, and actually inedible. The hosts of our event tried to correct it by offering to comp our table a round of drinks. But at that point we were all so disappointed and turned off by the entire experience that we all decided to leave two hours before the end of the event. Skyline at Waterplace has the potential to be incredible. But until they make some major changes, it's not a place I can recommend.

It's a weird space, kind of like your weird Greek party uncle decorated it. The appetizers are…read moresurprisingly good but the entrees were lackluster across the board. The view is a view you can see without eating here. Overall it's a solid meh. But then the service was poor. Our server was very friendly but disappeared chatting with a nearby table for long soars of time. We could see her, but we couldn't get her attention so waters stayed unfilled and such. And when we asked for separate checks with was a TRAGEDY. Huge deal about how they don't do it and the can't do it but they'll do it this time and then here's some guilt with your checks. The manager came over and shamed us for our wanting to use separate forms of payment too. Separate checks stopped being a big deal in the 90s. In the 90s there was easy to use POS tech to do separate checks. And then they added gratuity (without telling us or noting it anywhere) so the bit about how people don't right with separate checks was uncalled for. There is zero chance I'll ever go back here. But. Again. The appetizers were good.

We fell in love with her, the house, everything including the murder-by-mail story behind the house from the 1800s. About 2 weeks before the party we called Kaitlyn and told her it was going to turn into our surprise wedding! She continued to be so helpful and excited, giving recommendations for all kinds of vendors we'd need. The day of the party she was professional and hands-on, making sure everything got done on a quick timeline. She calmed nerves and had great suggestions on where things should go to make sure everything flowed just right. Our rental price included some tables and linens she had available, and some glassware too. It was so perfect from the start and we couldn't be happier!!

Beautiful historic building who's tour guides added in a true life murder mystery of the lady of the houses death. This really added to the event as it was so my scene and absolutely fun. They also had a whiskey tasting since she was poisoned with whiskey which is ironically amazing. I would def host an event here because unlike the Newport mansions I could touch things and see things in the midst of being historically preserved since they're still restoring the house. Open Doors RI has found a new regular customer :)
