Mixed feelings about this hotel. It needs to be updated really bad. When we arrived we were told to wait for a few minutes. Following that we watched multiple people come in and immediately get a room. Meanwhile we were sitting in the chairs right in front of them. After waiting for thirty plus minutes, I finally went back up to the desk and magically they had a room for us. Not that it matters, but we are Platinum Elite members. It's reasons like this we have started to stay at another hotel chain. Not pleased. read more

The property treats guests with elite status and those without equally. By that, when I checked in, my status was ignored. At least, I got upgraded to a guest room with an extended room. When I entered my hotel room, there was no light switch in the extended room. The lamps are all operated by their individual switches. Of the two light switches, one operates the bathroom light and the other a ceiling light in between the bedroom and the extended room. Without a lamp was left on, returning to the room at night would have been difficult. The bathroom was missing hand bar soap. When I went to the front desk, I had to first ask if there was supposed to be bar soap. Since hotels have replaced the single use shampoo, conditioner and body wash bottles with the wall dispensers to reduce costs, I was not sure if I was to use the body wash dispenser to clean my hands. As for the light in the bathroom, it also activated the exhaust fan which was jarringly loud. With the door closed, it could clearly be heard in either room. With the door open, the annoying fan was extremely unpleasant. In the morning, when I went to make coffee with the in-room coffee maker, I discovered there was only one coffee condiment packet. In the pre-pandemic era when the room rate included daily housekeeping, this would have been rectified when the room was cleaned later that day. In this post-pandemic era, the room rates only include housekeeping every other day. Rather than inconvenience myself and head back to the front desk, I decided to get coffee elsewhere. On my final day, the HVAC unit woke me up in the early morning hours. After what appeared to be a half hour, the noise had shut off. It was just as cold the previous day, so I considered myself lucky that I had not been woken up very early both mornings. read more

I love Marriott, but I would not recommend this property. Major repairs and renovations are much needed at this Courtyard. I'm not a stickler for searching for imperfections like some hotel enthusiasts, but the issues with this hotel are very evident. I gave two stars because they have great staff who were friendly and helpful when I had questions. I didn't eat or drink here so I can't comment on the quality of their food offerings. Their parking lot looked like it could accommodate all visitors at max capacity. Here's where the hotel showed its need for a facelift. The lobby is very dated from its chairs and furnishings, to the paint color and flooring, to the yellow hued lighting. Once you get to the elevator, it creaks open slowly. They could let a major production company use their elevator in their next horror movie, it was that unsettling. On the day I checked out, it was out of order. When I got to my room everything looked clean until I went to do something. For example, I wanted to see what view I had from my window and discovered that a lot of paint has chipped above the window. I went to the bathroom and there was an orange-reddish stain on the toilet, brown stains on the wallpaper, hair and dust all over the floor, and the carpeting was visibility separating where it met the tile. I talked to my colleague who was also staying here, and she had mold in her bathroom. The walls are paper thin. You can hear people coming and going from the hallway. Every morning at 6:30am, I could hear someone else's alarm when it went off. Like some other hotels, you can also tell when the rooms around you are utilizing water/plumbing. My stay wasn't a total disaster. I was able to sleep and order food from nearby restaurants, but I wouldn't stay here ever again. I plan on making a recommendation to my company to add other nearby hotels to our approved vendor list. No one should be forced to stay in a rundown hotel with unacceptable conditions. read more

Horribly maintained and managed. As a longtime Marriott customer (2 timeshare ownerships over 35 years), this was the worst Marriott property - not only was it in poor condition, the staff was rude and unhelpful. Marriott Corp should be ashamed to have it under its banner. read more

Stayed for one night. Checked in was quick and simple, the member checking me in was very friendly and welcoming. Informed me about the pool, gym and breakfast area. Room was upgraded and ended up on the 4th floor. One drag back was the long walk from the elevator to the room, but the room was nice. Love the fact that it had a living room area, sunshine coming through the room. The hotel looked bit dated, but overall good experience. read more

My husband stayed here for weeks during December and January for work. I stayed one weekend and found the accommodations to be nice. It was bitter cold and I think the window units had a hard time keeping up because it was still cold. The water pressure in the shower is awesome! The staff is very attentive and helpful. read more

This updated older property has a lovely Courtyard in the center of the hotel, with lush green plantings and a small outdoor sitting area with a little sunshine. Indoor pool and spa are well-maintained, rooms are recently remodeled, housekeeping seems to do a bang-up job. Stayed for 4 nights and ate several meals there. I really love the modern lobby with multiple seating areas and a small bar and Bistro. Bistro staff was hit and miss, and they ran out of things that I wanted more than one occasion. Front desk staff (with the exception of one snotty guy who wouldn't commit to replenish towels to the Pool, Spa or Fitness Center at 9pm on a Thursday night), were all very accommodating and efficient. Employees all look up, smile and speak when you encounter them in the hallways. The management is doing something right here. read more

In fact, I had experienced better only the night before at a similar model Marriott Courtyard at the airport in Denver. But this one is probably older though it is currently undergoing renovations. The renovation work itself was not problem at all and the manager contacted me by email before our arrival to adequately warn us, for which I was grateful. And the impact on us was that we had a less nice room location than I would have preferred as some floors are closed and I would guess our room had not yet been renovated. The furnishings in the bedroom were just fine, almost identical to what we had in Denver though a bit worn. However the bathroom seemed to have a similar newer tub like Denver but much older plumbing fixtures, with substandard caulking and trim, so maybe it was partially done? We were not in the room other than to sleep at night and get dressed to leave in the morning, so I didn't much care in this circumstance. But do ask if you are needing extended time in the room. It was unusual for us to need hotel accommodations when in Ann Arbor but this time we did and this was sufficient. The staff was friendly and greeted us nicely as we came and went each day. It is in a nice location for certain sorts of refreshments we are fond of and for shopping should you need it but it is a long way from downtown or campus. If you just want an I-94 location, this should be fine as long as you have a vehicle. Many of the usual competitors to Marriott are at this same exit. read more

I travel extensively for work. Last week I was forced to cancel a stay at the Courtyard in Ann Arbor, Mi. In order to stay at a different Marriott hotel on that same night. I went on-line and cancelled with no problem, and received my cancellation notice. This week my credit card was charged for the full amount. I called the hotel to advise them of my cancellation number. I was told that while I am welcome to CANCEL a reservation, that I would still be CHARGED. Now, it it me or does that defy logic? So, I lost my Marriott points,, but still paid for the stay...so why exactly would I bother to cancel? I was just beginning to use Marriott instead of Hilton Brand Hotels where I am I Diamond Member based on my level of stays. Shame on Marriott for being more concerned about a quick buck instead of the long-term relationship of a business guest. I will leave Facebook now and post to Twitter, and Yelp. Further, being a GUEST who travels six states, I will begin to shout it from the mountaintops. I hope that your $160.00 is worth the amount of bad PR that you are about to get. read more

I was very disappointed. I expected more from a Marriott. I arrived late and was exhausted so I went straight to bed. When I got up in the morning, I noticed a couple of nuts on the floor in the main walkway (I didn't have any nuts) and the bedding was wrinkled where two people had slept in the bed before me. I was by myself and used very little portion of the bed. The other parts of the bed was all wrinkled. The bed was made, but they didn't actually change the bedding between guests. I told the main desk and was told sorry, I'll let the cleaning people know. Beware. read more

The staff is very professional and very welcoming, but that's not why I give it five stars. The room is clean and comfortable and everything works properly, but that's not it either. The fitness center is well-maintained and adequate for a hotel fitness center, but again, not the reason. I had to change rooms twice last night because I had a car picking me up at 5:00 AM and a crowd of people with some hockey team had checked in. They were all over the hotel, including across from my initial room, they were loud and drinking a lot, and their children were running around unsupervised. The staff handled the room changes with speed and grace and I am very grateful to them. They also did their best to address the bad behavior on the floors, aside from the lounge area (which was loud in the rooms near it). I might not go back to this hotel even though my business will bring me back to Ann Arbor because the hotel seems to be popular with junior sports teams. If I return, it will be because of that lovely staff. I have some minor quibbles too. The lobby was cold all the time, which made breakfast uncomfortable even in warm clothing. The second is that the breakfasts are geared towards your Standard American Diet type, and even the "healthy" breakfasts are not healthy, with a lot of sugar in everything. If less health-conscious guests care to have lots of sugar for breakfast, let them waddle to the condiments cart and empty some sugar packets into their food, but once it is in there, you can't take it out. The selection is limited and the "healthy" options were full of sugar. If hotel food boses wish to contact me, I'll be glad to teach them about health and nutrition and how they can fix their menu. As a frequent traveler, their education is to my benefit since I know I'll be staying in more Marriotts and I prefer having breakfast at the hotel. read more

Aww, poor Courtyard. I stay here about 50% of the time when I'm in Ann Arbor for business, and as far as mid-level business hotels go, I think it's pretty good. The good: The Courtyard is clean, reasonably modern, has free wi-fi access, and a convenience store in the lobby (beer!). There's a small workout room (2 treadmills, 1 elliptical, 1 bike, and some free weights) and a pool. You can print boarding passes in the lobby. The staff is nice and provide quick service. The bad: There's currently some construction on the Courtyard; ask for a room away from it. It's hard to find parking near the door. The cafe in the lobby is expensive (though the service there comes with a smile). There's no room service, so you have to drag your butt to the lobby to eat. The workout room is REALLY small, so when it's too cold to run outside you can find me waiting in line for a treadmill. The wi-fi is sloooooooow. The verdict: What can I say? It's convenient and my corporate travel office loves Marriotts, so I'm going to stay here again. I'd definitely say this is a business hotel, though, so I can see why it was a let down for Nan B.'s wedding night (even without the hotel's mistakes). read more

Pretty standard Courtyard. It has a really fantastic lobby, with tons of chairs and gneral hangout space. The room was great, like all Marriotts. The pool looked nice, but we didn't have time to check it out. The breakfast was free and even had bacon, so I can't complain too much, but there was no silverware out (like, not even a space for it... I don't think they just ran out), and no one was around to ask, so several foods ended up being out of the question, which was a shame. read more

Outstanding customer service in all areas! Beautiful, relaxing surroundings in the lobby, courtyard, pool and our room. VERY clean, everywhere! The room is perfect and the beds and linens are super clean and comfortable. House keeping has done a fantastic job working around all of us when we have left to visit family in the downriver Detroit area, so nice to come back to a clean and well stocked room! Bar service was great. They even offered to add bacon to my bloody mary, that I enjoyed on a lounge chair in the courtyard. The market place has a fast selection of snacks and essentials 24/7. The Bistro offers some of the most unique and healthy options I've ever seen at a hotel. I should have taken pictures of the room when we arrived but I will try to add more later. It is a king bed with a pull out couch. When you walk into the room there is the couch, a comfy chair, tv, desk & office chair, coffee maker, refrigerator in the dresser, as you move through that room you find the spacious bathroom with an enormous tub/shower. There is a closet with ironing essentials, extra bedding, hangers and a blow dryer. The king sized bed sits nicely between two night stands with a large tv across from the bed on a larger dresser next to a full length mirror. Like I have said before EVERYTHING is SUPER CLEAN!!! Oh sweet Jesus did this place suck. The first room they threw me in reeked of mold and some sort of stank was coming out of the air conditioner. When I called to switch rooms, I was told I couldn't cuz they were sold out. No prob, I asked if there were any sister Marriott properties they could switch me to, and of course, those were all sold out, too. I asked if maintenance could come look at the room, and was told they had left for the evening. Finally after five minutes of arguing, they sent the bellhop to come check out the room. He started to take apart the air conditioner, took one look at it, and told me I needed to get another room. Of course, now there was one miraculously available. Too bad that wasn't the end of the story. In my new room, I couldn't sleep cuz some weird gurgling sound kept coming from behind the bed. Finally, at two in the morning, I dragged my lazy ass out of bed, and started snooping around. I found water with black flecks in it bubbling out from under the sink's drain. Niiiice. The next morning the girl at the front desk knew exactly what I was talking about, and had the prob taken care of by the time I got back. I asked to have the manager give me a call, but of course never heard anything back. Luckily my coworker didn't have any probs w/ his room, but I refuse to stay here again. read more

Stayed at this hotel for two nights and it was a comfortable stay. The hotel is located within close proximity to I94. Very close to the Briarwood Mall and even walkable if weather permitting. It is less than ten minutes from downtown Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan campus. The hotel has the standard amenities; free parking, free wifi, onsite bistro/bar. It is an older property however clean and well kept. The front desk staff was friendly and courteous. I would stay here again. read more

Guaranteed two Queens a month in advance and when our family gets there half of whom were sick from a bad dinner and a long drive at 11 PM they had sold out of their rooms. Tried to put us at a place a with one king and said that we would have to pay for the other room. Eventually were put up at residence inn but the keys to the first room didn't work and so had to put us up in a different room. Wouldn't stay here again. read more

GOOD: --clean-lines, contemporary decor with a touch of Asian influence with the orange lounge chairs --service is friendly, always greeted with a smile --the cafe has a decent selection of wines, snacks, and coffees. It would be nice if they offered a better selection of bfast foods like hard boiled eggs, bananas, or fresh fruit, rather than frozen muffins and pastries. --the rooms have always been pretty clean, for second tier hotels. The digital thermostat synchronization of the window unit to the wall module is a nice touch of modernization. Also, being an Elite member, room upgrades have always been available. --hotel is catered more towards the business traveler, with computers in the lobby to print boarding passes and various spaced seating with electrical plugs to get down to work --the outdoor seating is a nice addition for the leisure traveler to cozy up with their kindle. The mature trees allow most of the seating to be shaded, creating a relaxing ambience. BAD: --the workout room is the size of my bathroom! Well, not quite that small, but you get the point. Marriott completely dropped the ball on their workout room. There's only 2 treadmills and a few weights. When people are on business travel, we already have to eat out every meal, we need a place to work off all those extra calories! And having to wait in line is just plain awkward and rude for the person being hurried. --the pool and hot tub cleanliness are questionable. I've used it once just to try it out and decided against using it again but then again my expectations weren't that high to begin with. The pool water was pretty cold, actually freezing, and the hot tub foamed up like a washer that has too much soap in it. The clarity of both were a little doubtful as I couldn't really even see the bottom of either. --for being a business catered hotel, the wifi is soooo slow. Use your phone hotspot! Overall, this hotel is pretty nice. I've stayed here on 3 different occasions within the past year, and have had great experiences every time, despite some of their short comings. They will continue to keep my business as my main priority is an economical and clean bed bug free room. read more

I travel for business and usually stat at Courtyard, Marriott, Embassy Suites, Marriott Suites, Hilton or Doubletree. By far, this is one of the cleanest hotels I have visited. The beds are actually comfortable and supportive. There is room to navigate the bathroom without the door getting in the way. A flat screen TV with an actual clear picture. Nothing worse than sending an analog signal to a HD flat screen tv. Furniture is new and clean......obviously this place has been completely renovated in the past year or so. They have a coffee stand in the lobby, convenient if you are getting coffee in the morning. Only negative is that the large part of the parking lot is not near the entrance, but around the side. It's well lit a seem safe. read more

Wonderful experience here at the Courtyard in Ann Arbor. Warm and attentive front desk staffs for both the day and evening shifts. All of our questions about local eateries in Ann Arbor and Detroit were expertly answered. Slows BBQ in Detroit and The Grizzly Peak Brewing Company in Ann Arbor were both spot on recommendations. I was not expecting such a nice room from an older property but I was pleasantly surprised. Best of all we were heading off to Luxembourg after our stay and the front desk clerk arranged for a very late check-out to accommodate our desire to sleep in and prepare for the long flight. I would love to stay here again when I'm back in town on business or pleasure. read more

Hasn't stayed here in a while but was pleased with the change over to the new Courtyard layout with the bistro. Work out room was great with free weights and cardio. Pool on site too but I didn't use it. Staff was very nice, the building is older but well kept as is the courtyard which looked great. There was a tornado warning while at the hotel and they had offered to keep us safe in the first floor area. I ended up going to bed instead :). The only down side, which is completely not the hotel's fault, is that I was woken at 6:30am by a call on my room phone. The man on the other end told me their system was down and they lost the credit card info they had on file and could I give it to him. Half asleep, I asked if I can just come talk to him when I come down for breakfast and he said no he needed this info now. I said I would be down and he hung up. I fell back asleep. Later, when I was more awake, I called down to the front desk to ask if he had called me and he said no, that that sounded like a scam and did I give out any info. I heard the phone ring in the room next to me and while eating breakfast saw others asking the same thing to the front desk. It's a clever scheme and they can just randomly dial hotel rooms. The poor front desk manager tried to change over the lines so he can intercept calls before getting to the rooms but that was all they could do. I really hope that this has stopped as being woken up, for any reason really, is not my favorite thing. read more

This hotel is so basic, even for a courtyard Marriott. It has nothing special about it except for the unusually aggressive general manager, Matt. He is unaccomidating and quite honestly the most insulting CSR I have ever come across. Marriott and SPG are merging and so are there rewards programs, I am a member of both and earn points toward free stays. Due to an error with there two programs merging I was awarded a free nights stay when i shouldn't have been. Now instead of helping rectify the situation the manager Matt has been sending me threatening emails saying he's going to call the police on me and the such like. I've never stolen anything in my life (and if I were to start it wouldn't be an $85 a night stay) he continues to insult and accuse me sending harrsssing and threatening emails. In the last year I've spent tens of thousands of dollars at Marriott and Starwood properties (almost all much nicer than this one) and I am horrified at the way this person has treated me like a criminal! read more

Will not stay there again. Booked two rooms and needed to cancel one. My mother-in-law had planned to use the second room. A month before the visit, she fell and was not able to travel. I called 29 days before our stay and was told that we could only cancel outside of 30 days so there would not be a refund unless the room could be re rented. On that weekend, I asked twice and was told that the hotel was sold out and yet following the weekend, was told that we could not be issued a refund since the hotel was not sold out. I let the hotel know I would give a negative review and they did not seem to care. Bad public relations and not honest about a full house. read more

We stayed at this hotel when we came to see my eldest son graduate from the Universty of Michigan this year. WOW....gorgeous hotel, great staff/ very friendly. The lobby and patio are so modern and neat as was our room. Our room was a little smaller, booked a junior suite, but so beautiful it was, we enjoyed the stay immensely. When we come back to Ann Arbor, we will definitely stay there...everything looks so new! read more
