The bacon is amazing. We bought 2 pounds and had it packed into 2 one pound packages. We enjoyed our first 1/2 pound batch cooked outdoors in an electric skillet while camping, and then this morning had a second 1/2 pound batch after roasting it in the oven at 400 degrees F for 20 minutes on a rack. I also applied a light sprinkling of the Gateway to the North seasoning from the Spice House. Fabulous! I think we will be buying it from them online. Yum. This is some thick, hearty bacon. The house still smells like breakfast. We talked with a man who had driven up from Louisiana and bought over $200 worth of ham, bacon, etc., and he said that would last for just a month in his household, and then he'd drive up again. I found the smoked turkey a little strong on the smoke, but the sliced ham was tasty. They do sell whole hams too. Pricey but no doubt worth it. We were traveling in our small motorhome plus tow car and were able to pull in and out easily. This place, sadly, is not big rig friendly. Little maneuvering room and tight turns. read more

They have the MEATS! Seriously, if you're vegan, just keep going! Courseys is a tradition for our family. We always try to stop when we are traveling Hwy 65. You pull into the parking lot and head inside for a sandwich. You get a choice of smoked ham or turkey piled high on your choice of white, wheat or rye ... plain old sandwich bread right from the plastic bag. Choose between 3 smoked cheeses and then doctor up your own sandwich with the standard condiments. Grab a bottled drink and a bag of chips. Head back outside to enjoy your simple but tasty lunch at one of the picnic tables under the trees. The bacon is famous .... thick sliced and smokey to perfection. If you're on the way home or have a cooler, be sure to get a couple pounds. P.S. it freezes well! The jerkey is also a fave of the guys in our family. Definitely a decline in quality, however, the prices continue to go up. One summer awhile back our families got together in Colorado, and the woman had actually toted several pounds of Coursey's bacon with her from Little Rock to Beaver Creek in a cooler. In one brief moment, friend turned both mom and husband into Coursey's *fiends* and had me doing something I hadn't done in nearly 20 years: sampling one perfect, crackling strip of melt-on-your-tongue bacon. Ay. Yi. Yi. I defy *any* veg-head to resist this crack cocaine of meat. Fortunately for meat-lovers who don't live anywhere near St. Joe, Coursey's delivers nationwide. This is THE BEST bacon you can get anywhere. I drive by this place every time I go home for a visit. They have smoked ham, turkey, sausage and cheeses. The bacon is by far the best, followed by the turkey. It's a hole in the wall and you'll miss it if you are not paying attention. If you don't live anywhere close, they ship the bacon. Ahhhhhhh. So. Freakin. Good. As someone who is mostly lacto-ovo-vegetarian (I eat fish and cheese) I must say, Courseys Bacon is the best thing on this freakin planet. My moms best friend told me about this place when I was moving from Springfield, Missouri to Houston, TX- although driving through OK is WAY quicker, it's so completely worth the extra hour to drive through Arkansas just to stop at Courseys. Their bacon is incredible and so is their turkey. It's just a lil bitty country place, with hams hanging out in open air in the shop. I HIGHLY recommend getting at least 3lbs of bacon and a 2lbs of turkey, and some snack bags of smoked swiss and cheddar that you can eat on the drive. It's really not that expensive for the quality. I guess you can mail order it, but I only get it when I make the drive- limits myself to about twice a year. And when I was in there recently, I noticed they also sell ham-hock. HECK YEAH.
