I had good experiences getting acupuncture at UNM Center For Life. The staff from reception to…read morepractitioner are professional. The place is clean and quiet, pretty conducive to getting relaxation and re-centering yourself. The only drawback was....the wait for an acupuncture session is long! It takes 2-3 months out before you can get in. In my case, I had a session and scheduled another follow up 2 months+ out...only to be called 2 days before my appointment that the practitioner was out and no offer to reschedule without much wait. It was a bit frustrating but I think if they are more availability, I wouldn't mind stopping by again.

This is sad can't even take my child in to get medication that she needs to have another person in the room and to have watch to entire thing, didn't even ask if it was ok for her to be in the room. The other doctors we have gone to have also had a judgemental attitude towards me and I'm not even there for me it's all for my child to get the best care I thought. These people are unprofessional, and rude. Stacy at the front counter is another one that is rude!! No professional attitude just attitude. When we call to verify an appointment or time once she hears my voice complete Change in tone. Why does this place continue to have people like this here. Please don't consider this place please. If you do decide to go here don't be surprised by the high turn around in doctors they even contact volunteer doctors and don't get me wrong you may get an outside doctor that means well but at a snap of a finer tey could be gone. Then you find yourself starting all over. If you seek medication management this is not the place for anyone, I see you only getting worse not better because one doc will get you on things that are helping you then you get another that doesn't agree with what your taking and change it up and you then are in limbo. Save yourself the headache. And only 1 star due to the fact you have to rate or it would be none.

I thought this was a little odd but OK, I went home and immediately emailed the doctor explaining my condition, the treatment I was interested in and the fact that I don't have health insurance. (For those in ABQ, I had UNM care for years but not any more thanks to Obamacare.) So after not hearing back for over 24 hours, I called them and left a message with my name and phone explaining I had sent an email with my request. It has now been a week and I still haven't heard from them! I have come to 2 conclusions; either the doctor isn't taking any new patients (which you would have thought the receptionist could have told me that if it is the case) or they don't want to take patients without health insurance.

He ran my blood-work and informed me that I had Hoshimotos. At this point I had forgotten what if felt like to feel energized and to feel good. I started the 6 month program and within weeks I was feeling better. I remember the day I got a call that all my blood-work was where Dr Staddler wanted it to be. I cried as I wrote in my journal, "I don't remember feeling this great, ever!" I knew then that everyone in my network who was struggling with health needed to do this program. So this is a difficult review to write because my criticisms are through absolutely no fault of…read moretheir own. But they are huge so must be mentioned. I have an interesting mix of symptoms and issues that I'll summarize by just saying I'm tired all the time. Since I've been having these issues (5 years) I've seen 7 different doctors. I have not been tested for anything. I've been told I'm too fat and that I should "consider going to the gym". Some doctors refuse to give me medications, others load me up with pain killers and muscle relaxants that leave me unable to safely drive. It's awful not getting quality care or even just being listened to as a human being. Friends with chronic pain and autoimmune disorders sympathize and have given me significantly better "care" over the internet than the actual doctors I've seen. One friend was commiserating with me once again recently when she realized there is a Red River Health & Wellness here in ABQ. (She goes to one in another state for her thyroid issues and loves it.) I saw that they do a free consultation and I jumped on it! They tell you to arrive half an hour early to fill out the VERY comprehensive medical forms if you are not able to print them and fill them out at home. They ask questions on there about symptoms I've had and didn't think any doctor would take seriously! (Dismissing them as merely cosmetic). Red River takes note of all that! It was AMAZING talking to Dr Joshua Conzo! Thorough, caring, knowledgeable. THIS is what a doctor should be. THIS is how medical care should be!! We discussed not just myself but some general medical stuff such as how the thyroid functions normally in a body and several of the things that can go wrong with it. The giant, huge, insurmountable problem: As the chiropractic physicians at Red River practice Functional Medicine, their services are not covered by insurance. Even though their services are well within the parameters of typical western medicine (eg ordering a blood test), their style of doing things isn't covered. It's ludicrous. They are merely ordering for me the tests that any doctor should have ordered, to try to figure out what the heck is going on, and yet because of the type of doctors they are, insurance won't cooperate. The pros are that they are WELL aware of this and have suggestions for how to proceed. The cons are that even with their attempts to bring the price down, you are still paying cash - $300 for tests, $100 for office visits....and who has that kind of money?? This is a PHENOMENAL practice that specializes in issues with the endocrine system. You will get thorough, quality care here. But good luck paying for it. :(
