Cottage in the Meadows was a place where people who had no one could go in their last days to be treated with love, care and dignity. MultiCare coming in my town is cut throat, closing this place because very few who die alone have money. When Cottage in the Meadow was run through our original Memorial Hospital, they were awesome. Run away from this place and the people that work here. Personally the worst experience of my life! They don't care about the quality of care they give they just care about $$$$. I can't say enough wonderful things about this place and staff. My grandmother was there for about a week. The staff took such wonderful care of her and were always asking us if we needed anything. The staff out amazing. They keep the place incredibly clean. They have a great chef that makes wonderful soup, breads, cookies, muffins and snacks for all the families there. The volunteers are so nice and do their best to respect your requests of no phone calls to the rooms or unwanted visitors. The staff handle "family drama" very delicately, quickly and quietly. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Cottage in the Meadow and its wonderful staff! It is a blessing on the community to have this at our disposal. My mom was moved to Cottage in January of 2018 and for the brief time she was there the staff did their best to make sure that she was handled with the utmost care. They were a support to the family and we were so thankful that mom's last days were comfortable. We lost my mother-in-law last week, and Cottage staff was there again for us. This time dealing with cancer and dementia, they were caring and patient with her. They are caring and are there to just lend a listening ear when need be. If i could i would ask the authors of the other reviews for this place if their loved ones asked to be allowed to leave and go home. can you imagine being denied the right to change your mind about something as crucial as your right to live? even after initially enlisting for such a "service" should you not have the right to at any given point during the process to live as opposed to die? is this place authorized to keep people against their will? that is exactly what they did to my mother. so as these other people leave their glowing reviews at how marvelously the staff at Cottage By The Meadow successfully facilitated the death of their loved ones consider what these people did to my mother. SHE ASKED TO BE ALLOWED TO LEAVE. they upped her pain meds and kept her from fully regaining consciousness ever again. she was dead 4 days later. the fear my mother must have felt when she was still able to comprehend what was happening to her. i suppose keeping her in a constant state of drug induced delirium was the most humane thing these people could have done for my mom. shortly after she succumbed to the dehydration, malnutrition, and absence of medical care i received their bill. over $10,000. she hung on for almost a month. her death was not "imminent". hospice staff and coordinators from the hospital informed our family of this at the onset of their involvement with my mom. read more

Cottage in the Meadow is the best hospice I have ever seen. We recently have had our 92 yr old Mom pass away and during her last days we had her at Cottage in the Meadow. What a great home going experience. The staff the facilities all above excellence. They help turn a very difficult and sad time into a wonderful memorable experience in our family. I have only ever been to one hospice (this one), but I have to say this place turned a bad situation into as good a experience as they could. They bent over backwards to make sure my mom was comfortable as well as the family. We spent nearly 3 weeks here so I became familiar with the staff and facilities. They are both truly amazing and SUCH a nice reprieve from the hospital. Large and comfortable rooms. Quiet and peaceful with a waterfall outside each room, a park-like setting outside, quick service, friendly staff, and they even provide a lot of hot food for the families in the kitchen. Typically there is a daily soup and plates of food in the fridge, also a stocked cabinet for snacks. They even allowed pets to come in with proof of vaccination. I brought my dog, pancake, every day and the staff said "Hi" every time Pancake arrived for the day. Everything was just very smooth and easy here and it was so nice. I cannot recommend it enough. read more

It has been a year since my mother passed and I can still remember how beautiful this place was. They are nothing less than great. The facility is nothing less than beautiful. They have created such a wonderful place to spend time with your loved one while going through the worse time in your life. If you are in need of a place to help you and your family, do not go anywhere else. The reviews are perfect because this place is perfect. Medical staff was fantastic. Compassionate, caring, knowledgeable. Social workers were the same. Unfortunately, their house chaplain, Peggy, barged into my mother's room during her 40th hour of agony breathing, started talking to my Jesuit uncle about who went to high school with whom, and when I asked them to take their personal conversation into the hall and respect our sacred space, they refused. I got mad, she asked my uncle (not next of kin) if I was going to get violent, and allowed him to make the decision as to who stayed in the room and who didn't. She helped him take away my legal rights and allowed him to dictate the terms of my mother's death rather than me. She blamed my anger on the emotional situation and made me into the crazy person in the room. In reality, I had every right to be angry, and she had no right to defer to someone who was not next of kin. But she chose to. Her choices caused familial arguing over my mother's dying body. Her choices caused me additional trauma as I was losing my parent. I will live forever with the memory that this woman stole my 2 last hours with my mother. It was a violation of the highest order. She's a chaplain, so I'm sure she'll be immune from consequence, as they always are. But she abused her power. And any potential client should know that she did it and she wasn't the slightest bit sorry. Our family was torn apart by this incident and she determined its outcome by assigning authority to the wrong person. read more

I've never had experience with a hospice before but I can't imagine it being better. My dad was transferred here after a stroke 5 days earlier. He lost his ability to swallow, speak and move so we knew he wasn't going to last long. We were only here three days but it was probably the best situation for a bad situation. Not only are the volunteers kind and helpful, but the nursing staff and administrators are a special group of people. The handmade lap quilt placed over his legs is special to us and my mom uses it at home now. There is soup and light snacks for the families so you don't even have to leave. The atmosphere is beautiful and home-like. He choose to leave us when we went to dinner one evening and when we returned, his nurse met us in the lobby to give us the news. On his closed door hung a gold star indicating his passing, I assume. We were given as much time with him as we wanted. There was no hurry to get him out. It was so beautiful and gentle and kind and peaceful. I had always feared the moment I had to watch my parents pass, but this was not fearful or traumatizing. It was actually peaceful and calm and I am happy we were able to bring him to this beautiful place for his last days. read more
