Used CostaMed for a travel required COVID test to return to the US. Beware- they advertise they accept credit cards but they may insist on cash payment. The Westin Hotel Cozumel contracted with CostaMed for COVID testing. The Westin advertised that payment $31 per test could be made by credit card or cash. On the morning of my test, the first two people paid by credit card. Then, my turn. The young lady taking payment said the terminal had a low battery. She refused to get a charger for the terminal and insisted that payment must be made by cash. I pushed back and said that the Westin arranged for CostaMed and that payment by credit card was part of the arrangement. Her message was cash or no test. I paid cash, and then she had the audacity to complain that one of the $1 bills had a tiny bit of damage. Very poor customer service. read more

I was referred there last week by DAN Diver Alert Network after having nausea, vision issues and vertigo. They were excellent! I was there for 3 days and was diagnosed with Decompression Sickness. It was necessary to use the Hyperbaric Chamber over that period. The Drs the nurses, EMTs and all the staff were wonderful. Dr. Daria, head of the chamber was 5+ stars. I couldn't have been taken care of better in the US. Been diving in Cozumel for 30 yrs but never got ill. I will continue to dive there because of the quality of care could not be matched. read more

This place provides mobile COvID-19 tests. They collaborated with the Westin hotel. They are friendly employees, but when it comes to paying they would not take a credit card saying their machine was not working. It was working, but they forgot to charge the battery. Instead of going back to the clinic to get the battery charger, they demanded cash. Then they wanted to complain the bills were not perfect and wanted a different bill. I did not have any other bills when I was planning on paying with a credit card. Their lack of customer service is not acceptable. We are staying in hotel, if your machine is not working, work with the hotel to figure it out. read more

(This review covers both the Playa del Carmen and Cozumel locations.) I was brought in to CostaMed after a heart failure incident in Playa del Carmen on February 7, 2024. The cardiologist, dr. Ponte, was not on call, but was brought in right away and for the next three days he would show up whenever it was needed, day and night. I felt very well taken care of while in the hospital - they took my condition and symptoms seriously and didn't just send me off on my way. I had had a heart attack with a stent put in ten days earlier (in the US) and my husband and I were in Playa del Carmen (with two doctors' approval) to rest and recover. When dr. Ponte couldn't find the source of my collapse, he transferred me to the Cozumel hospital where I was under Dr. Miguel's care. Dr. Miguel is also a fantastic cardiologist and was able to diagnose me with a rare condition called Takotsubo. The doctor lives at the hospital, and just like Dr. Ponte, he would show up at any time there was a question or concern - and it happened often. I am so grateful for CostaMed being where it is, it saved my life! The hospital itself is clean and well taken care of, the hospital workers are friendly and helpful. Any time I rang the bell, somebody would immediately show up. The doctors speak English well, the nurses don't all speak it, but they are familiar with Google Translate and we managed that way. In Cozumel they have a wonderful Canadian nurse who helps with any questions you might have. They also have Patient Services staff that check in every day to make sure you are well taken care of. Unbeknownst to us, our insurance company will work with the hospital, even though they are not on their plan. We did have to put down a chunk of money ($5,000 at the first location and another $5,000 for the transfer and treatment at the second), but we have been promised that they will work with our insurance company to settle as much as possible. We will not know what that will look like for another few months, though. Another thing I would add is that I felt I was getting better treatment here than at any US hospital I've been at. The care was geared towards getting to the bottom of my problem and not dictated as much by what an insurance agency would cover. They were thorough and well informed, but at the same time I did not feel like I was taken advantage of by any means. If you find yourself at CostaMed, don't worry - you are in good hands! read more

We thought my friend had heartburn but he actually had a blocked artery. This hospital is AMAZING! They took him immediately, performed tons of tests, explained everything very thoroughly in English, worked with his insurance company, and made us feel so comfortable. If you are ever sick in Cozumel, go to this hospital!! read more

The staff was helpful and courteous. The hospital and rooms are very clean. The doctors and nurses were diligent.

So easy to get both rapid Antigen test and PCT test if necessary, it's always been safe and quick. Good to know some Spanish though; as it is throughout any foreign country, yet I have chosen COSTAMED multiple times for their simplicity and efficiency. 10/10! read more

I was on a cruise on the liberty of the seas and experienced shortness of breath the ship's medical department determined that I had pneumonia and needed to be transferred to a hospital and sent Me to Costamed. The care there from arrival to discharge was Great. The Doctors, Nurses, and the rest of the staff were Outstanding always helpful, and ready to put in extra effort to make sure everything went smoothly.I would definitely recommend this hospital . wish i could give zero stars !! my boyfriend and i traveled out of the country for the first time to mexico and about 3 days in he was having severe pains and screaming it was so bad. we took him to costa med and they absolutely refused to do anything for my boyfriend without a $5,000 deposit. a man literally asked me to call family and friends to see if they would send it to us. the nurse was so rude, dismissive, and had not an ounce of compassion. we were both scared, and were not offered any help. we had to ask for prices of everything and the nurse quite literally said "ugh. do you expect me to keep running to the front desk to find out prices?" like i'm sorry we're in our early 20's in a foreign country and are asking you to do something small for us to at least help the pain he's in in the slightest. the nurse there said food poisoning was not possible as he hasn't been throwing up, well we end our vacation a day early, spend hundreds on a new flight home, both flights delayed, traveled for 15hrs, went to our hometown hospital - FOOD POISONING. i don't even care about the money and saying the diagnosis was impossible, it was the DISRESPECT and lack of compassion. we are young and just needed some guidance, help, emotional support, etc., and received NOTHING. read more

Costamed care was a wonderful experience from the moment we arrived by ambulance due to severe back pain that had resulted in total lack of movement for my husband. As we made the decision for the necessity of emergency care in a foreign country where we only had a semi passable tourist grasp of a few words in the native tongue I felt the panicky fear of the unknown creep into my chest. But over the eight days of my husbands hospitalization we found not one single negative about the care provided, the staff or the facility. We would highly recommend that if you are in Cozumel and you find yourself in need of medical care that you put your trust in the Costamed facility. From cleaning staff to physician and every position in between we encountered attentive, well trained staff. We thank all involved in my husbands care and gladly recommend this facility. read more

Terrible experience. If I could give no stars I would. My family member came here for one problem and ended up having an array of issues--as in medical errors during an invasive procedure (that we requested they should NOT perform but they did anyway against our request) that caused difficulties and a prolonged stay. My family member was clinging to life in the ICU until we were able to get my family member flown into the US were she could get better care. Some of the providers here were not open about the difficulties they encountered and my family suffered as a result--not only emotionally but financially as well. My loved on truly suffered in this facility as a result. The nurses were more concerned about chatting amongst themselves than to actively care and tend to their patient and improve their outcome. They changed the rules about how many visitors can visit. It clearly states that 2 is the maximum but they decided to conveniently only allow one member at a time. They denied that we could have the chance to see our family member, and only allowed very strict visitation hours. This review doesn't even begin to cover everything but on behalf of my family member's privacy I am choosing to not disclose all of the issues that were encountered. Please, especially those who are traveling to Cozumel on vacation, be prepared that this hospital is more concerned about tacking on miscellaneous procedures and tests just to increase the bill, rather than improve their patient outcomes. My 86 year old mother was admitted to CDC Costamed in Cozumel 2 days before we were scheduled to leave after a 14 day stay in Cozumel. The hospital has been renovated and has updated technology. After spending 2 nights in the hospital for pneumonia, we were desperate for her to make her scheduled Saturday departure so she could see her regular doctors in the States. With the help of Andrea Sekula, the hospital's International Patient Liaison, we were able to ask that my mother be discharged by 11 am on Saturday morning and go directly to the airport. Andrea Sekula made it all happen in time and I believe we hold the record for the fastest Hospital discharge time in Cozumel. read more
