On the two occasions I have been, I have had the Angus Burger with Salad and Fries and friends have had Sandwiches and Toasties. I've also tried the Fish & Chips which were lovely. For a cafe, it is a little pricey, however, a percentage of proceeds go to the Erskine Hospital for Military Personnel therefore, I am willing to pay a little extra for what I order. The food is of high quality and the cafe is always busy when I am in, a great sign of a good place. When the cafe is very busy, service can be a little slow but that is to be expected when the staff are run off of their feet.

A little time after we had been given our drinks the waitress told us there was a 'backlog' in the kitchen and our food would be delayed.Twenty five minutes later when our sandwiches were finally served (mine had to go back because there was an error) our drinks were long finished and we suggested to the waitress that complimentary teas and coffees would be appreciated.She went off to seek guidance and returned to tell us that as all food was freshly made there was always a time lapse and drinks would not be forthcoming.Later the manageress approached us and accused us of trying a ruse to obtain free drinks! As you can imagine this was insulting and also, I can assure you, quite untrue.Because of the rudeness of this woman I asked if the owner was available and was directed to the foyer where a young man was told by the manageress that we 'didn't want to pay for our drinks' - not true.My husband explained that as we are in business for ourselves (we are a tourism company) that we would never, ever treat our customers in the way we had been treated but the upshot was that we were ordered to pay for our meal, leave the restaurant and never return.My sandwich had been redone and returned to the table by this time but had to be left uneaten.I am sparing you the verbatim account of what passed between this unpleasant couple and my husband and myself but as people who have been fortunate enough to travel all over Scotland and many countries abroad I can honestly say that I have never come across such attitudes before and although the food in the Wishing Well may be recommended having people like this running an establishment should definitely have no recommendation.

When I'm a tourist, I love stumbling on little shops where locals go to for their meals. We were…read moresuper early to tour the nearby Dumbarton Castle so we wandered down the street and stumbled onto this little shop to have a second breakfast. It's a fast food shop where you can grab a simple meal, a quick snack or a cup of coffee. Plenty of the locals were picking up breakfasts while we were there. I had the hot roll with sausage (only 1.30 pounds!) and even had a choice of soft or crisp roll. The shop is run by a very nice lady, but she handles the orders, cooking and payments on her own. Don't think it would ever get too crowded, but be patient and don't rush her!

Even the armchair seats are very comfy, great for lazing and sitting in there for hours, and hours! Also the staff service are amazing, when my niece have climbed out of her high chair, and accidently fell down on the floor and banged her head. The staff in the cafe had came to our assistance, and helped us. However, she have ensured us with first aid information. Also she went to the kitchen and brought us a tea towel covered with ice, to reduce the swelling. it was very thoughtful of her. Also the lady brought a free bowl of sweetie to cheer my niece up. Kilmacolm is doing alright on the cafe front these days…read more Tapa is I believe related to the original East end version which in ye olden days was a vegetarian place too but do not fear, they do meaty products (sausage/bacon breakfast rolls, sandwiches, pizzas). Lots of local traffic popping in for coffee and cakes, especially lots of cyclists so it can be difficult to get a seat. I've picked up take away cake from here before for friends and its went down well. There is usually one gluten free cake option. This time we visited just for coffee which was good. Order at the till, pay and staff will bring to your table. They also have a licence do organic wines available as well as innis and gunn on draft. Good addition to Kilmacolm and worth checking out.
