Based on the American coffee shop style Starbucks are everywhere on the high street these days, their coffee bars are relaxed places with sofa seating and low tables, the idea being the are a place to meet and relax while out shopping. They usually have some light jazz music playing in the back ground and you go up to the counter to get your drinks as there is no waitress service. They have a wide range of coffee and tea drinks and they also serve sandwiches and cakes as well. If you eat in you pay more for everything so it is cheaper to take away. There is a wide range of choices both in size of drink and type of coffee, I always go for an Americano without milk which is a strong black coffee. My favourite drink at the moment though is the mango frappe which is a cold drink mixing fruit juice and tea and it is very refreshing but not cheap. They have a great range of cakes and I love their cheesecake choices but again you do pay through the nose for their stuff which is the only downside.

I feel very sophisticated and high tech doing this.... 1 point. Starbucks is usually a safe bet. You are not going to get coffee that tastes of nothing, (see other review). You ask for a skinny flat white you will usually get one. On occasion you will catch them making it with full fat milk, but they happily correct it when they realise you watch. Today I have had a skinny flat white with sugar free hazelnut shot (Costa no longer do sugar free hazelnut for some reason) and a Croque Monsieur, which is basically a fancy toasted ham panini with mustard. Flat white was very well done, tasted and looked lovely. Well done Matt you have redeemed yourself the last time you cocked up my porridge. The Croque Monsieur took some time, I think the other barista forgot about it because after a 'withering stare' it was promptly brought to me. It was however not sliced in half. Now I'm not meaning to sound petty, I don't mind not having my food sliced for me. Honest! But when they provide you with a plastic knife because they either think that A. You will stab somebody Or B. Steal the knife It makes it exceedingly difficult to slice yourself, but I gave it a good go. It was good as toasted ham sandwiches go, couldn't fault it. To wrap this up, whether you will get a good or bad experience depends on the staff and how busy they are. This Starbucks seems to be full of young teenagers and that sometimes shows in the speed and quality. On an ending note this Starbucks is also popular with large groups of teenagers who have around 1 drink shared between 6. So good luck getting a seat on prime times.

I gave up on both Costa and Starbucks, and here's why: Costa - no matter how busy it is in there (and it does always seem to be very busy), the coffee will take about 5 minutes. Not sure why. Starbucks - overpriced and untidy. I actually went in there a few days ago; there were two tables with empty cups/plates/rubbish on and the staff were standing around chatting. Not efficient. Back to Pret. Their service is very very quick. As I said, I only want a quick coffee and that's what I get. There's a dedicated person pouring the coffee constantly so I've never waited more than 30 seconds for my drink (not including the queue). The cost is cheap; compare 99p at Pret to £3 at either Costa or Starbucks. There's no competition! The service is always very friendly. I've never had a server who didn't smile and wish me a good day - it really makes a difference. I've rarely - if ever - had such a wish from anyone at the other coffee shops.

It is conveniently located in the middle of the Westgate Centre, so very handy for a break whilst you are out shopping. Staff are always very friendly and helpful, and have always been wonderful with my daughter when we go there. It is a little on the pricey side compared to other places, but you really do get what you pay for!

THey do a loyalty card to collect towards free drinks and my children love their milk shakes and hot chocolate. THe staff are exceptionally friendly. On one occasion when one of my children spilt their drink, they replaced it for free. I will continue going here at least once a week, for the coffee and the selection of free newspapers and magazines.
