I consider this place "my salon," but in the past year, I've brought each of my two daughters and…read moremy husband, all to see "my stylist." The salon itself is the type that makes us 40-somethings feel just a tad frumpier than we are--a tad more like we're wearing "mom jeans," and committing several other fashion offenses to boot. But we grit our teeth and think of England, or better yet, the glorious hair that will be our just reward for an hour of imagining all the cutting remarks going on inside the heads of the lithe, tattoed, pierced. and oh-so-chic crowd. Thing is, you find a great stylist, you hang on for dear life! Mine took my 11-year old daughter's long, thick, coarse blanket of hair, and our vague opinions as to what should be done, and working with us the entire time--never forcing her will--came up with an age-appropriate, but fashion forward style. She taught my daughter how to style it and reminded her that it was okay to not do much at all with it. She kept in mind that fractions of inches were as important as miles to the tween set. In short, she is a gem. Greeters and schedulers are always professional and courteous. Prices are slightly too steep for us to keep our kids coming regularly; but as I lazily only get mine cut once or twice a year, the cost doesn't bother me. Requiring a cut every month or so, it was tough to get the spouse to come even once, used as he was to his $15 cuts. But after seeing what could be done with his thinning hair, he hasn't looked back! I have no experience with the colorists, but they always look busy and committed, and I would certainly choose Rocco Altobelli for coloring if needed. Next time, maybe a temporary tattoo?

I desperately needed a haircut!! I was back in the Twin Cities visiting family for the holidays and…read moremy hair was just downright embarrassing. I hadn't gotten a cut since last May due to the usual lack of time and money. I've also had an extremely difficult time finding a talented stylist in Chicago, and it was getting exhausting. My mom told me she had the greatest girl who listened to her and did a great cut. I rolled my eyes and skeptically agreed to see Lolita at Rocco Altobelli. The whole visit was an overall wonderful experience, Lolita was sweet and really knows hair, she works quickly but wasn't rushed. She did an awesome job on my cut, it even looks great when I'm lazy and don't style it. I guess mother really does know best!! I'm totally coming back to Lolita everytime I visit my family!

I know it's my fault for going to a great clips cause obviously a cheap hair salon runs the risk of…read morea messed up haircut. However, I have gone to this specific location multiple times and have always left with just alright haircuts and have been fine with the outcome since the prices are so cheap. But it turns out more often than not a cheap hair salon means the hairstylists are not that good cause obviously if they were qualified they would apply and get hired at an actual salon and make way more money. So I've had two instances where the stylists are just not worth your time and I recommend going to a different hairstylist. 1) I asked for a grade 5 on the top and the lady said "I don't have that I didn't bring it today" so I said "okay well I'm paying for a haircut with that specific length so can I wait until another stylist is available with that blade length?" And she said NO. like absolutely horrible service and she continued to just cut my hair at whatever length she thought worked. 2). The picture attached is my botched haircut. It is a simple grade 4 on the top and then a grade 3 down to a 1 on the sides and back. He said do you want squared or rounded edges in the back (keep in mind this is the first time someone has ever asked me that at this salon, which MOST salons will always ask you that question if you are getting a buzzed/short haircut). so i said "squared is fine". And he says, "I'm doing round, I can't get it even." Like what the actual fuck, they give anyone a license these days. I come home and look in the mirror since they never let you see the back of your head at this great clips.. and I notice patchy spots, and on the left side my hairline is squared and the right side is round.... like what? I definitely will not be going back and I learned my lesson by trying to get a cheap $16 haircut.

I have a somewhat unique hair type that's thick but also can get frizzy and she knew just looking at me what would look good and listened to guidance about what I wanted. I've paid hundreds for haircuts in search of the best stylist and she is hands down my favorite. Highly recommend, hidden gem. Awesome style too. Will recommend to have patience as their reservation system is more of a flow with it kind of thing so recommend coming when you have an extra bit to wait. Totally worth it though.

I typically do not stray from my regular stylist because…read moreI have had really bad haircuts in the past, but this salon looked cute and reputable so I gave it a try. I drive past it all the time, so it's a great location for me. This salon has a total "cool girl" vibe. I have been to other salons that felt more "cool" and "exclusive", but those environments were not welcoming. I grew up getting cuts from my mom and going to places like Supercuts. I am extremely low maintenance with my hair and normally maybe get it cut once or twice a year. In the past, other stylists at nicer salons have looked down on me for that and made comments that made me feel like I wasn't doing enough or that I was less than. Hour Rose Salon and Duffy made me feel very normal, welcomed, and accepted for exactly who I am. I can't say how much I appreciated that, especially in an environment where it would be so easy to make people like me feel like we're not doing enough. I booked online and chose Long Haircut. I like that the services are listed by length and give clear descriptions as to what you'll receive. It was also really easy to get in, I booked an appointment for less than 24 hours away. Before you choose date and time, you can select a stylist. All the options for stylists are given with a quick bio and typically also show their Instagram name so you can check out their work. If you don't care about who you get, you can also pick "any stylist" and just choose your date and time. I ended up selecting Duffy because I liked the photos on her insta and she mentioned specializing in curly hair (I think!). There's a great variety of stylists at the salon and I'm sure you'd be in good hands with any of them. Parking was extremely easy and free, and I was welcomed like I'd been there before. So sweet! The salon is clean and smells really nice. I was offered a drink of my choice (mint tea!) and showed to my chair to start my pre-haircut consultation. My consultation was quick (not too quick) but thorough. I showed some pictures of myself and pointed out what I liked and didn't like about certain haircuts I'd had in the past. Duffy asked clarifying questions and was extremely careful and listened to me. As the haircut went on, Duffy checked in on me to make sure I was liking what was happening, like length and certain techniques. She noted some qualities about my hair that no other professionals I've seen before have called out, which was so interesting! My hair has a very different texture beneath and on the top layer, and nobody's really pointed that out before. It was really nice talking to someone who knows curly hair. Duffy walked me through some care for my hair and shared some tips on how to book if I'd like to come in for trims and maintenance. I didn't feel like I was being sold to or like I was a number - it was a lovely experience overall. I am so happy with my hair and can't wait to come back.
