The Cost Cutters in DeForest is a busy place and usually only has one person working, so typically, bookings are a day or two out. But this week there were two staffers available and they had options for appts that same day. They were each very pleasant and professional. Several ppl came in and scheduled appointments while I was there and they were tended to quickly and treated courteously. The place was clean and they had a wide variety of hair products lining their shelves. I have never had a bad experience at this Cost Cutters! Highly recommend! Cheyanne has cut my hair on several occasions and always patiently listens to what my thoughts are for my cut before she begins. She is very professional, pleasant, and thoughtful. When I ask for a certain amount of inches off the length, she shows me what that length looks like, then takes the first cut and shows me what it looks like before proceeding, which I always appreciate as sometimes I actually need more length off than I first thought. Unfortunately she usually has no other staff at this salon to help her. Minorities NOT welcome! Their online booking system (both website and app) stated they weren't accepting reservations, and I was unable to reach them by phone. I visited the salon in person 3 hours before closing. Despite there being only one customer present, the stylist informed me they were fully booked for several weeks. She seemed unwilling to assist further or offer alternative options. She clearly did not want me there, nor did she even attempt to make a reservation for me. Given the salon's location in a small town in the middle of cornfields, I found the claim of being completely booked not credible. As a person of color with straight hair, I felt uncomfortable with the reception I received and left wondering if there were other factors influencing their reluctance to accommodate me. read more

You know, I think if you're a man you gotta look past the bad reviews. I can't speak for the woman but if you're a man, not a bad local spot to get your hair cut or trimmed. The staff is always friendly and talkative, it's a clean place, and it always smells good. read more

What is the point of calling ahead to make an appointment?! I called at 11:30am and made an appointment for 1pm and got there at 12:50. There was only one employee there and she was cutting an older lady's hair. She told me it would be 2:45pm before she got to me and I asked why because I had an appointment for 10 minutes from now. She said she was going to finish doing the lady's hair and then close the shop to go out for lunch since she was the only one scheduled to work today. She said she'd probably be back at 2:30 but would keep the doors locked until 2:45 so she could "catch up on a few things." After reading other reviews before posting mine, I see I dodged a bullet. Will find some other place with more reliable employees that know how to take and keep appointments, and how to talk to customers. read more

I have recieved excellent service from Assistant Manager Cheyanne Keel! I have been going to the DeForest location for about 10 months now and Cheyanne always does a fantastic job with cut and color! She is always pleasant, professional and prepared. She keeps notes on coloring and is always open to a change in style and color. I have had an easy time scheduling appointments and the salon is always clean and neat. I would definitely recommend Cheyanne Keel and the DeForest, WI Cost Cutters!! read more

Louis is the best! He cut my husband's and son's hair today and made my 3 year old feel comfortable while getting his haircut. Our little guy was pretty squirmy and not cooperating but Louis worked with him so well and gave my son a wonderful haircut despite him having the wiggles! Highly recommend! read more

The hairstylist did a terrible job cutting my hair, complete opposite of what I asked for; she tried fixing it 3 times and even asked another hair stylist to try which ended up making it worse with each attempt! I started bawling in the chair and they still made me pay for my hair cut even after I vocally stated my dissatisfaction / I called the owner and complained and he directed me to the manager that offered to fix my hair and refund my money in a form of a check which never came - month later I had to remind them and request my refund which came within 3 days but they swore up and down they sent the first one. read more

Well great for a quick trim or quick cut I had a horrific cut from another place and they fixed to a cute pixie cut then the last time I went... I went for color and a cut the girl ran out of time to cut my hair and I had to go back for her to fix my color and after going back and spending another 2 hours my color was not any better... so spent a lot of time and money on something that I was not happy with. The last two times I've gone to cost cutters I've not gotten the hair cut I've asked for, they've been rough with my head and also I asked them to styler my hair and this new lady named Fran didn't even dry my hair before styling it so it was just a big greasy mess that I am completely unhappy with. Horribly uneven haircuts and one of employees was rude and not very friendly. Cuts so bad I actually had the other employee take over to fix, not much better. Finally said enough is enough and left because there was no fixing. These were for boys short cuts which should be pretty easy to handle. It was the slowest and poor haircut especially if you're cutting a boys hair. It took an hour! We had to also wait way over the time we were due because the employees kept answering the phones and leaving the chairs to help other customers. Very unprofessional and poor quality. Beware! From what we heard all the employees quit and a bunch new ones are going to start soon. read more

Went in after cutting my own hair just to have it evened out a little. I pointed out the length of the shortest hairs I had in the front and said "just even it all out to this length." The gentleman cutting my hair said that would be super simple & he could definitely do that. The first thing he did after that, was take those hairs in the front & start cutting them. He then proceeded to give me short bangs in the front & layer all the rest of my hair. Which wouldn't even have been the biggest problem if he had layered it evenly. He literally just took a scissors and did whatever he wanted with my hair. Didn't do anything to check the lengths and make sure it evened out. Not even in the front. It was a little hard to tell what my hair looked like before I left as he didn't even dry it, or give me a mirror to check out the back myself to make sure I liked it. Easily the most unprofessional experience I have had. I will say however, that he was very nice & made me feel comfortable having him cut my hair. Just unfortunate that I now have hair so short & uneven, that it is unlikely there will be a way to fix it without just cutting off most of the rest of my hair and styling it completely different than I had in mind. Safe to say I will certainly not be returning to this Cost Cutters, as I am now unsure of the qualifications necessary to be hired here. I just hope there are at least a few well-trained employees at this location for anyone else who decides to come here. read more

My wife had a terrible experience her, having our kids hair cut. They stylist was crabby, unhappy, and impatient. She was "yelling" at my son for not sitting still. He is 6 yrs old and an average kid, relatively well behaved -- and an adult, professional should certainly be capable of dealing with him. We will not go back again. read more

Cheyenne was rude about our request for a haircut. Made negative comments throughout the short time we spent with her. Next time, we will take out money and our "weird request" someplace else. I do not recommend this hairstylist. read more

First time here today and will NEVER return! I had the lady with pink/purple hair. I came in for a trim and instead had my hair ripped, pulled, and yanked throughout the trim. Extremely rude the entire time. I wanted to get up and leave the chair the minute I sat down, but felt trapped. My head is now in pain from the unprofessional techniques that were used. Avoid this Cost Cutters! I went a year ago for a style and was very disappointed. I told her exactly what I wanted and it wasn't difficult, I just needed more volume in the back/crown.She spent most of her time complaining about work and about how hung over she was. I went home and fixed my hair myself. I recently took my son there for a trim even though my gut told me to wait and make an appointment at a better place. He has cowlicks in 4 places and I showed her where they were. She ended up cutting it too short in the back and I told her to be careful in the front because of the cowlick up there and pointed directly to it. She said, "Oh, yeah, he does have a cowlick. Most parents say their kids do but the really don't." She was also complaining about working on a Sunday. Not professional at all!!! read more

We don't normally go here, but my daughter just wanted a half inch trim so we have it a try. I asked if they could blow dry it. She said it was $5 per 5 minutes. That seemed a bit much to me, but it doesn't take even 10 minutes to dry, so I said that was fine. I used the stopwatch on my phone and it took 25 minutes to dry shoulder length hair. I've NEVER had ANYONE take this long. Then - she charged me for 30 minutes. She included the time she walked away to answer the phone. In the end, this 1/2 inch trim cost $46 - which didn't look any different than when I blow it dry. Absolutely not worth it!! We will never go back. read more
