Each place we went was so carefully planned and curated. We visited wineries, vineyards and a sheep farm that makes cheese. With his help, we were able to visit every place we wanted to see as well as some smaller unknown, hidden gems. We saw so many beautiful landscapes and Roberto stopped frequently for us to take in the views! I cannot say enough wonderful things about Roberto. Great wine to drink, wine knowledge to feed your mind, and enough artisan food samplings to feed the most robust appetite. The villa we rented had 6 bedrooms each with its own bathroom. All beautiful in their simplicity and generous space. The villa is designed and maintained to the highest degree. There are inside and outdoor gathering spaces to join together for a meal, relax your way to the beginning of the day, or laugh, talk, and drink until the calendar page flips over. There is even a pool to remove the heat of the day. Everyone we met from owners to tour guide to cleaning staff have the nicest and most pleasant demeanors - helpful, friendly, and welcoming.

We lucked out to be here during their olive oil season. We then started a private wine tasting with Paolo to taste 5 of his wines and 2 olive oils on toasted breads (bruschetta). It was only €10! He was such a great host! Nothing beats having the owner and winemaker lead these wine tastings. It was informal and fun. He even made lunch reservations for us at a nearby restaurant. And lunch at the restaurant he booked us in was fantastic too! We all loved his wines and ended up ordering 6 cases to be shipped home.

Paolo Montioni is an excellent host! Their Umbrian wines and olive oils are excellent. I have also ordered wine by email from Montioni for delivery at home. The process was easy, invoiced and paid through PayPal, and shipped to my front door. As Paolo last wrote to me: "We are safe and we are working very hard ......the Nature is outstanding in this moment." We look forward to our next visit to Montefalco and Montioni!

Our tour guide, Daniella, explained the wines and motivation of Canneto while in the barrel room and made sure we had a fun tasting. The wines were all big and expressive of the land, packing a real punch without letting the alcohol overpower the taste of the grapes. Canneto is doing well recognizing their strength as a smaller producer in creating superior wines.

My friend recommended Grape Tours and I felt relief as there was no easy way to have that kind of experience with 8 family members without a car. We selected Fabulous Tuscany! We walked to the wine and cheese shop right from our Airbnb in Florence. We were greeted by Rebecca at 8:45AM, and our driver for the day, Daniel at 9AM as planned. When the Grand Master resides, the flag of the Knights of Malta is flown. It is very rare for a building to have been under the possession of a single entity for more than 1000 years. The Knights are no longer in the arms business, but are doing a great job with wine and olive oil! I am sure they have humanitarian affiliations I am not aware of. This place is a must see! It is beautifully positioned overlooking Lake Trasimento in the heart of Umbria. Visit the castle then go down to the beach!
