    Medal, 2014
    Amber E.

My first 10K, so don't have a lot to compare it to, but I thought it was a great event. We'll organized, lots of volunteers, plenty of free samples (coconut water, naked juice, protein drinks, bars, etc.). The course was beautiful - from Tidelands Park along the beautiful bay and golf course, past the Del and back. Cool long-sleeved Ts and medals for all finishers (definitely would not have received a medal otherwise!) There was a post-party afterward at MCPs, which was fun, w/ live music, free Gordon Biersch beer and tasty breakfast buffet for $10. Great first experience. I'd do it again! TIP: Parking in Coronado is tight. I got there at 6:30 am for 8:00 am race and had to park a mile away. Next time, I'd get there by 6 or 6:15 at the latest.

We had such a fun day at the Fleet Science Center in San Diego!…read more Location: Right in Balboa Park, which is already such a beautiful area to walk around with tons of things to see and do. There's also a really pretty water fountain right in front that the kids loved running around and playing near--it made the whole experience feel extra special and "vacationy." Prices: Adults are $24.99 and kids are $19.99, and kids 2 and under are free! Honestly, totally worth it for how much there is to do--so many hands-on exhibits that kept the kids entertained the whole time. Ball Pool: Hands down the BEST part for the kids! They could have stayed there forever--super fun, interactive, and just pure joy watching them play. Parking: Parking was $16 for all day. We were able to park right in front, which was super convenient. It can get busy, but it worked out great for us. Pay at the kiosk!! They are super strict with parking so beware! Dome Theater: This was definitely the highlight! The dome theater is AMAZING--such an immersive experience that both kids and adults will enjoy. It really feels like you're inside the movie. Don't skip this! Kid City: The only downside was that Kid City was closed when we visited, which was a bit of a bummer since we were really looking forward to it. But even without it, there was still plenty to explore and enjoy. Overall, we had a great time and would definitely recommend bringing kids here. It's educational, interactive, and just plain fun. We'll definitely be back--hopefully next time Kid City is open!

We were attending a Girl Scout sleepover, and the Fleet staff was horrid to us. The man in charge was not amicable in any way and was continously rude to us throughout the night and following morning. They gave us a set schedule and constantly deviated from it - to the point that they told my 4th graders if they didn't stop eating breakfast they would be barred from attending the movie that was included in our paid program. He was attempting to be intimidating and one of my girls was extremely uncomfortable. For context, breakfast was scheduled for 8am and the movie scheduled for 845am per our written schedule. The man was forcing us to the theater or to miss the movie - at 824am. We had been so mistreated from arrival through the night that when a morning shift employee offered to open the door and help me carry something, I became overwhelmed with appreciation and thanked him for being kind. I let him know he was the first employee to show us any kindness and that we appreciated him. The experience we have had has left us completely floored, and we do not plan to return to a business that chooses to employ such a rude, non-inclusive, unprofessional staff with zero customer service skills.

I first learned about Traci's Paws through a Facebook event back in 2020, and we've been…read moreparticipating in the event ever since. They help military/veteran families and their fur babies. Our very first experience with them happened during a tough time--COVID, and it was only our second Christmas in San Diego after moving from Hawaii. Being away from home during the holidays was hard, but their team created a drive-through Christmas event that brought so much joy to our family. The volunteers were amazing, and you could feel how much heart they put into making the season special for everyone. My children were given toys and my pet was given treats and a toy. They also gave a free fresh Christmas tree. I cried in appreciation for several days everytime I walked out into our living room and saw the Christmas tree. It brought a bit of normalcy during COVID. Since then, we've participated in several of their holiday and pet-friendly events, and each one just keeps getting bigger and better. Their annual Unleash the Holiday Cheer celebration is one of the best community events in San Diego. They offer so many FREE activities and giveaways for military/veterans including (from the flyer 2025): * A free concert * Crafts and professional Santa photos * Gifts from Santa for the kids ** A Pet Costume Runway Show with big prizes ** - we haven't participated in this but I always look forward to what they participants come up with * Story time with the Candylane Princess * Face painting * Carnival games * A "Puppacino Station" for the pups * Foam party, bubble artist & even a Swifites station * FREE Kong pet toys * FREE vet care vouchers for all attendees - We benefited from this last year. The garbage disposal broke in our home and we couldn't wash dishes. At the same time one of our dogs needed a blood test and procedure done on them. I'm so grateful for the vet care voucher. * 1000+ unwrapped Christmas gifts donated to Active Duty Military & Veterans **This year civilians were able attend for free.** It's community effort, and it shows. The vendors are awesome, the volunteers are friendly, and the atmosphere is always warm and festive. Traci's Paws goes above and beyond to support pets, families, and military communities in San Diego. If you haven't been to one of their events before, check out their Facebook, Instagram page and website- you'll be amazed at how much they offer. This organization has become a part of our family's holiday tradition, and we appreciate them so much. If you looking for an organization to donate or volunteer please consider Traci's Paws.

Despite it being kind of warm, they toughed it out and gave everyone an opportunity. There were many vendors and a great costume show. We can't wait to go back next year :) they are so good about trying to help the animals and rescue those that are in need. My rescue did so well and made lots of doggy friends. Were extremely grateful! keep up the good work!

When I first walked in, I noticed a hodge-podge of tapestries, rugs, throws, modern eco art, all in earthy and jewel tones. The backdrop was dark wood paneling and shelves, and scattered through the room were strings of lights. You can smell the wood in the room, musky and lingering. The store's mission is one of community, philanthropy and teaching. The walls are lined with magazines and books focused on green-living. The space is offered free of charge to community-minded green initiatives and serves as a lending library. The presentation was a treat. Rob Greenfield recounted how he lived solely off the food he grew or foraged for, essentially fruits and vegetables, for a whole year! He showed images of the meals he prepared, and they looked delicious! His adventures are documented on his YouTube channel. Rob is an engaging and dynamic speaker. It was so interesting to learn about his experience and the different green initiatives he supports and has received help from. One of the initiatives he mentioned includes a grant that funds planting ten fruit trees in your community, accessible to all that anyone can apply for. I had a great experience. It's so eye-opening and inspiring to learn about different ways of life, the extent to which Rob went to to complete a community-serving project and his level of dedication to this cause!

I love the vibe plus its like gyms used to be in 1990. The equipment is a bit worn, however, it still works. There is every type of workout machine imaginable. They have plenty of free weights and ample space to stretch too!! There is a relaxing garden area & an Olympic size pool sparkling clean!! Great outdoor pool welcoming on sunny days & its ALSo heated in case of "May Grey" or "June Gloom" weather. The men's locker room was modern & very clean. They have a large communal shower area just like in my high school. I like the style of the men's communal showers which are surrounded by cool & stylish "mid-century" glass blocks. This gym has everything, yet, it isn't crowded. They even offer locks in case you forget yours. This YMCA is unique in that it is primarily outdoors with a natural vibe. The garden is a nice touch. Positive sunny energy with a large outdoor workout area that is covered in case of rain or intense summer sunshine. I hope this gym never loses its "openness & naturistic" vibe. The only thing that I didn't like were the benches in the men's locker area. I stubbed my toe due to the configuration of the bench legs - a small inconvenience. A rare find!!
