Well, I heard about this through the high school and we went. I can't believe what a GREAT experience it was! There were almost TOO many dresses to choose from and the volunteers as well as the other moms were so helpful and supportive. I love this! We found a beautiful dress in which she wore to her first American prom and paid nothing. I love that Princess Project is out there for any high school girl to experience - no matter the economic background, size or style. Thank you!

The project usually starts in March and ends the end of April; basically before Prom starts. This year location was in Mission Valley Westfield mall, located by the USPS, DXL - Big & tall and restroom. For teens you'll have to go through Eventbrite website and pick a time slot to attend the dress event and sign an online waiver. Everyone else who is accompanying a minor, they would have to sign a waiver as well. Only one guest per teen. Other pop up locations are available on the website but Mission Valley is their main location. This year my daughter signed up for the Princess project, they didn't specify where it is located on their website so we walked around the mall looking for it. Once we found the spot, we had to sign in. We got a wrist band with a number for our bag, we cannot take cellphones, personal belongings or drinks/food inside the event space. You'll have to surrender your items until the end of the dress picking event. No drinks/food because of the prom dresses. No cellphones/cameras due to their privacy. Upon entering the store, it was very organized. There were so many volunteers, they can measure you to get the "right" size but everyone is different in shapes and sizes, so you can either add up a size or go down a size. Whatever is comfortable for them. They said there was about 5,000 dresses at this site, it was very overwhelming, seeing all the beautiful dresses. So many colors, style etc. I love it! Teens will get 45 minutes to look around and try on dresses. They are very strict with time management because another round of girls will come in and do the same. I love that they thought about the times, the rules, it's very well planned. They have dressing rooms for the teens to try on their dress and a lounge area for the guests. The volunteer staff is there to help zip you up, help choose dresses/accessories, they are very friendly. Once you got your dress, let your host know and they'll guide you to the accessories area. You can pick one accessory to accentuate your dress. There were so many necklaces, earrings and purses to choose from. After the accessories, you can check out with the front volunteers. You'll give them your wristband number and they'll give you back your personal items. Overall experience was wonderful. It was a bit stuffy inside the space because so many people are running around looking for dresses, AC would been perfect. My daughter had a great time, unfortunately she didn't find something that will fit her right or her style but she did choose a dress and we will alter it. I do suggest booking the event at an early date if possible in hopes to find "your dress", as times go on there will be limited dresses to choose from. Keep up the good work Princess Project. Thanks for everything and all you do. I am looking into signing up to volunteer for the future.

You always think of little old ladies when you hear Woman's Club, at least I do, and actually, that is what this club used to be like many years ago. Now, it's filled with woman of all ages. Most just realize how cool it is to live in our little beach community and it's another way of communing with others and helping your hood out at the same time. The club has been in OB for almost 80 years, but has struggled as of late, due to lack of membership. But they have a new young VP, Mel, who has fired things up and there have been a lot of new members just in the last few weeks. The place is rented out for church groups, yoga, wedding receptions, parties...at very reasonable prices. Think about them the next time you need a place for your function. Really reasonable rental prices. What most don't know is, they have this awesome community garden that surrounds the place and anyone can pay $50 for the year and grow their own veggies in their own little plot! For $35 a yr, you can share one! With the whole farm to table movement, it's very au courant!! They meet twice a month, first and third Mondays and always have a lot of fun things planned. They just had their first annual fundraiser and lots of gifts were donated by local merchants. There was a good turn out and many won lots of cool prizes in their raffle and auction. Bigger and better next year! They will be helping out at the Halloween Carnival on Oct 26 at the Rec Center on Santa Monica Ave with cupcakes, they will be at all the cool little craft fairs on the Veterans' Plaza lawn at the end of Newport on Oct 19, and on Dec 7, 14, and the 21, we have our Thanksgiving Pot Luck on Nov 4, and we will be in the OB Christmas Parade which is always a wonderful family night. All this for only $25 a year! LIfetime memberships are $1000. Here is some cool history about the WC....The Ocean Beach Woman's Club has been a "Hub of Activity" in OB since 1934. We are one of the oldest civic groups in San Diego. We were instrumental in the paving of the OB streets, installation of the sewers, securing street lights and garbage disposal, acquiring a recreation center and public library, secured lifeguards year round, planted the streets with trees, shrubs and flowers, served as a recreation center for servicemen in WWII, helped acquire the Ocean Beach skate park at Robb Field, and our latest project the Ocean Beach Woman's Club community garden. - See more at: http://obwomansclub.org/about-ob-womans-club#sthash.LrvMmeSE.dpuf

Great training for babysitting. Our girls went to basketball camp there one summer, and had a really good time. Very laid-back. This was an early birthday gift to myself, and honestly, nothing could have been more meaningful. Our group was led by the founder, Wendy, along with another amazing educator whose name I regretfully don't remember. Both were absolutely wonderful, you could feel how much they care for and understand each animal through the knowledge, enthusiasm, and respect they shared with us. The groups are small, maxing out at eight people, which makes the experience feel personal and intimate. Before the otter swim, we met about seven other animals, including a sloth, capybaras, fennec foxes, ring-tailed lemurs, and more. We were even able to feed, pet, and interact up close with many of them, which made the tour around the property both educational and heartwarming. And then of course, the highlight of the day: the Otter Swim. We got to spend time in the water with three playful otters, and I can now officially say I've petted an otter (flat hand, of course)! They had no concept of personal space, swimming all around us, climbing on our arms, and using us as launch pads back into the water. Watching them play and interact up close was beyond adorable. It was truly a 10/10 (or more like 1,000,000/10) experience, and I would--and hopefully will be back again someday. Parking: They have a decently sized lot available Bathrooms: Both port-o-potties out front, and 2 proper restrooms within the facility

The outdoor Basketball Are probably the least well maintained because the concrete has many cracks and the hoops are bent out of shape. The indoor court is smaller than a Full court but is in very good shape. The 3 tennis courts outside are very well maintained and have seating area on the sidelines sidelines with shade. The baseball field field goes in-and-out of good maintenance depending on how the grass is kept up. Most of the time it is pretty good and there are Vavi leagues that are hosted here frequently.

I am glad that at least the courts here are free for the public to use (ahem Balboa Tennis Club ahem), and that is the only reason why this is not a one star review. However the courts themselves are terrible. The top gritty layer of the baseline area is eroded away from years of use, leaving behind a slippery surface that is dangerous to play on. Half the tennis court nets are broken at the top tape part, often allowing the ball to pass through even though it should have gone into the net. Finally, the hours that the courts are unlocked for the public are terrible as well, during business hours on weekdays and closed on the weekends. How am I supposed to play when the only time they are open is when I am at work? Also the park can get pretty sketchy at night time, so I would only come here in the daytime.
