My family and I recently completed a 4 day bespoke tour of Cornwall. We're Americans and this was our first time in Cornwall. I have to say, this was a terrific trip. The routes planned by Cornish Cycle Tours were spectacularly beautiful with scenery changing every 1/2 day so we were never bored. The proprietor, Lanyon, was super accommodating to our desires for a slightly shorter trip than the standard web offerings. The bikes for hire were of good quality for going up the hills and dales of Cornwall. Plenty of places to stop and tour or just grab some fuel to push onward. Luggage always successfully transferred. Having been on Backroads and Butterfield and Robinson trips before, the Cornish routes were the equal if not superior at far less the price (that said, the hotels are adequate-to-good). We decided to tour in Cornwall on an 8 day tour using Cornish Cycle Tours. This was a long anticipated family trip for my two children (ages 22 and 19), my husband and myself, and our first time to Cornwall. The countryside is beautiful, though a bit hillier than expected. Lanyon outfitted us with hybrid bicycles adjusted to our sizes, helmets and paniers with tools. He also gave us written directions and map. Even though Cornish Cycle Tours is a small outfit, Lanyon took good care of us. He worked with us to adjust our tour after we discovered how difficult the terrain is. We're fairly fit, and it took us 6-7 hours to cycle 25 miles. We were expecting that it would take us more like 3-4 hours. Once we explained our desire to do more on our vacation than just ride our bicycles, Lanyon was very accommodating. He picked us up with the luggage in the morning, and dropped us midway to ride. We also chose to hike some days rather than ride. You should be familiar with the area and/or be a good map reader. We were constantly referring to the directions and map. It would have been helpful if mileage and topography was included. At our request, Lanyon purchased tickets to the Minack Theater in Porthcurno. We thoroughly enjoyed seeing "Canterbury Tales" and would rank it one of the best experiences from our trip. Cornish Cycle Tour's prices are reasonable, service is great.
