Probably fair if you have extremely short hair and want a shape-up, but if it is of medium length or longer, PLEASE do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. I had medium/longish hair, and the back was getting a little too messy on the bottom. I figured it would be a simple trim, so I went here. I told my barber, Ricky, to take 1-2 inches off the top and shorten the back. He asked if I wanted a line or to keep it natural - I told him to keep it natural. I didn't want the shape-up look. He gave me one of the worst haircuts I have ever received. I told him to take 1-2 inches off the top. He took FOUR, making the top and sides the same damn length. As for the back, halfway down , my hair just ends. No taper, no graduation-- it just goes from medium-length to a 1 with a fucking shape-up. The sides are completely uneven. he did nothing I asked for. This isn't a translation problem, either. I spoke to him in Spanish. I need to go to another barber to fix this. Best barbershop in Upper west side and I'm picky as hell too. If you want a super clean fade and attention to every last detail you gotta come to these Dominican guys. I wanted a mid skin fade with two horozontal lines--since I got a perm too I told them to give me an undercut along the edge where my sides meet my perm and they did exactly that. Lines are sharp, fade is exactly right, didn't touch the perm. Miguel didn't seem like he spoke much English but he still did my cut perfectly? Like wtf damn!! I dropped in w my four year old son to get a quick cut. We were seated right away and the barber gave him a thorough hair cut. It cost me $13 which I thought was cheap considering the time spent on the cut. There were 8-10 barbers all giving cuts, shaves and beard trims. He listened to what I want and got right to it carefully, no nicking my head with the clippers. Then trimming my beard and adjusting as I gave feedback. I'm growing a full beard (they're in style) but have thicker hair around my mouth (had a goatee for years) and he trimmed it well to blend with the sides of my face. I think I finally found my barber shop in NYC. This place is like a factory, in a good way. I'm more of a get in and get out as fast as possible when it comes to my haircuts and this place fits the bill. Around 8 barbers on a Saturday afternoon, no wait, no small talk with the barber, and I'm out in 20 minutes and only down $20. And in my opinion my cut was quite good! Much better than the $35 options in the UES. Barely said a word and I get my fairly high quality cut without the "complimentary" hot shave. The atmosphere is a jolly one of camaraderie or "familia," especially if you are here on a weekend, where both barbers and patrons alike seem to be in the party mood (usually with latin/reggaeton music blaring in the background). There can be a bit of a wait for certain barbers if you go at peak times (evenings and weekends). However, you can't top the combination of friendly service + detailed work/time spent by the barber + price ($13 for a men's haircut). Great mens haircut. Place felt busy, but they had plenty of staff. Pretty old-school (in a good way). I keep my hair slightly longer so hairdressers usually wet it to cut it. Problem is then once it drys it looks different. This guy did the whole haircut totally dry, which I have never experienced. Had fantastic attention to detail, and even went over the edges with a cutthroat razor. And it was all for $15 + tip. Looked like it was cash only, but they have an ATM in there. read more

Place is amazing. Nothing to look at when you first arrive. I walked in for first time since I'm tired of paying $35+ tip for a haircut every two to three weeks at these salons around here. I walked in and an old guy, Gilberto, waved me over. I'm in my 30's so I was a little worried about a 79 year old guy cutting my hair. WRONG! He said, "you want regular?". And i was like, "umm, ok.". Terrible. Barber started out by just cutting cutting the sides and trimming a tiny bit off the front. Had to ask several times to cut the top shorter, which was quite difficult because my barber did not speak English. Left several long hairs around my ears. Walked out with a horrible haircut, but because of all the stellar yelp reviews I thought it was probably a fluke and tried it again a few weeks later. Huge mistake. The first haircut was bad, but the second was comically bad. He did not cut the top _at all_ - whenever I asked him (via hand gestures) to cut the top shorter, he'd cut a little more off the front, but would leave the top of my head untouched. Cut the front in a straight line across my forehead, with squared off corners. I looked like a three stooges character. First friend I saw after I got my haircut laughed out loud. Unfortunately "three stooges" was not really the look I was going for. read more
