I came here to learn about ADHD. I saw Marliss Mayer. I asked to be tested and to find out if i had ADHD she interviewed me and gave me a paper 9 one sheet with a graph on it. Nothing else which cost me over $600 . Other clinics say they will write up a report and provide recommendations. She did confirm my diagnosis generally really unhelpful. We spent most of the time discussing her ongoing issues regarding her apartment and the costs to get that repaired. She didn't seem interested in me at all. After my diagnosis I changed clinics to work with a counsellor who spent the 50 mins we had discussing my mental health concerns. Recommendation GO ANYWHERE ELSE. read more

I had a pretty bad experience here. I wanted to talk to a counsellor about hormones and pms and depression and if there were ways to help alleviate emotions. I'll try anything once, and I figured that it couldn't hurt. The woman that I saw became fixated on my childhood, and when I tried to sway her back to talking about hormones she refused to talk about anything except my childhood! She told me that because of the generation I am from, my parents most likely didn't love me. She told me to (no joke) find a picture of me as a child, put the picture on the fridge and stare at it for maybe 30 min to an hour a day and really love that child. I said that's not going to happen, so what can you tell me about hormones and pms? Then she said that I was not a good fit for her, and she couldn't help me. #1, if you don't know anything about the topic I am asking (which you should if you have a degree) why not say that you would do some research and get back to me about it? #2, if a client doesn't want to talk about something, why press the issue? It just makes them feel uncomfortable and since you are a stranger- it's hard to open up to someone you just met. #3, pulling the "I don't think this is a good fit" card is a cop-out. It shows that you are not flexible, versatile or adaptable. It shows that you desire to fulfill your own agenda instead of trying to challenge yourself. If I ever go back to see a counsellor, I hope to choose a non-religious man who shoots straight and is direct and honest. read more

Came to cornerstone counselling for help with my relationship. After the registered psychologist made a very rude and uncalled for impression of me I broke down in tears. After, I asked for a minute to calm down but because I didn't stop crying after a minute she told my partner during a side conversation that I was being manipulative. This was the worst encounter I have ever experienced and thanks to her contribution of negativity my relationship is now over and I get to be reminded how manipulative I am on an ongoing basis. Thank you Marliss Meyer. I thought your job was to help rescue and rebuild a relationship not run people down and make very harsh judgments on people during their first visit. And for the record I am not a manipulative person. I would never recommend Marliss Meyer as your registered psychologist unless you want your marriage to be over. read more

I have visited this counseling centre off and on over the last 3 years. They did have one great psychologist who moved on to another place, but I stayed. Huge mistake. Please rethink going here, for your well being and your child's. I was lied to and made to feel guilty for standing up for my daughter, who had suffered from an abusive step parent. When I told them that under no circumstances was she going to be re introduced to the abuser, they said that they were going to be in contact with child services about my non compliance. My child had requested not to see this person and was quite persistent in this, even telling the counselor in their own sessions REPEATEDLY no. I was accused of tainting my child's perspective and that I should only remind her of the good times and essentially ignore all the bad. My primary concern was and always will be my daughter's well being and happiness. How is it that I am accused of being the bad parent for protecting my child and listening to what she is saying? They made excuses for the abusers actions and gave her a diagnosis only after the abuse was made public. Not at any other time in the 3 years that that particular person had been seeing them. Convenient. I was so depressed after leaving, I called child services myself and told them exactly what happened and what was said. I was informed that the counseling centre has no contact with them! It was indeed a big fat lie to pressure me into recanting my firm NO. I was informed that I should seek out a disciplinary action against the counselors. I called the manager of Cornerstone to let them know what had exactly gone on and was given the brush off. Being told that she was not in the session so it was hear say! But she would talk to the 2 counselors. Though it was made quite clear that there was going to be no repercussions to their actions. In further calls I discovered that a counselor has no one to answer to, only registered psychologists are monitored! Anyone can be a counselor and they can tell anyone anything and have no one to answer to. Please if you take anything from this just make sure you get a psychologist that is registered and thus have rules they have to abide by. I will NEVER set foot in cornerstone again and I strongly recommend that you think twice before you do as well. read more

I had been recommended this place by my mother who had been many years ago. I had been in a very tough relationship for many years and when that ended I desperately needed someone to talk to and get guidance from. being a young woman on my own I couldn't afford much. the amazing thing about this place is that they only charge you based on your income. I just had to bring in a pay stub as proof and they charged me a rate accordingly. this is wonderful and ensures that no matter what anyone can seek the help they need. they offer many different types of counselling and some who specialise. I saw Dr. Liddle and of course it being my first time I was very nervous. he was very warm and welcoming. he let me talk and tell him everything that was on my mind without interruption. he would ask simple questions that would open up new doors. he had an approach of letting me talk things out and come to conclusions on my own instead of trying to give me answeres. he offered a unbiased view when I asked questions based on what I had said. he complimented me and assured me that i'm not as lost as I thought I was and helped me gain some self confidence back. after more sessions he started to offer more advice once he got a better idea of what was best for me. it was a safe and calming atmosphere and it was a huge step in helping me move on and find myself again. I recommend for anyone who needs guidance or just someone to listen. this place makes it possible for anyone to get help. read more

I would never recommend this place to anyone. I had the worst experience of my life. I left there feeling emotionally distraught and humiliated. 45 minutes into my session, the psychologist who was 'carefully selected' for me by doing an intake on the phone, told me that she was not comfortable with same sex relationships. (I'm in one) She said she would try to work with us, but that she can't accept it. She basically told me she is homophobic, AFTER me pouring my heart out for 45 minutes. I was there for family issues, not marital. They refunded me my money, but they handled it horribly. It was so unprofessional. I called the clinical supervisor the following day, he basically just said he's sorry it happened. I am shocked that someone in her position can get away with discrimination. If you're anything other than a traditional family with a white picket fence, be very careful about who you see in this practice. read more
