The school made participation in events like prom, homecoming, and open house to be mandatory, which badly damaged ss, who had social problems or faced bully as I do. If ss did not attend these events, then ss must pay and go to Saturday school. Same thing for some holidays. Some religious holiday was not allowed to take a break with the reason that no ss in the school followed Christ's religion while the school was originally based on a Christian school. In addition, myself is a Catholic follower. This clearly was a violation of ss's rights. The religion teachers did not hesitate at all to show bias. She asked other ss easy questions and always hard questions for me. I studied extremely hard in her class but still got a C-. When I could not take her bias anymore, I did everything to drop her class despite the threat from the principal that I would not graduate if I drop her class. The ss leader in against bullying program bullied me. I had no idea how could she accept that position without feeling any shame. She threw a ball into my head during the pe class. I burst into tears. Teachers did nothing but looked at me like I was the troublemaker. There was a pair of siblings that I played with at the beginning. Soon, I figured out they were not real friends because they walked off when I was in a hard time. I stopped playing with them. However, the sis kept being around and annoying me. She even intentionally touched my hair. The bro thought he was smarter than I did when he almost failed the history class. After every time the bro was rude to me. He would be like "I did nothing". Such a coward. One year, there were two new ss. I was so glad that finally I can have some friends but I was wrong. I should never talk with them. They participated with the rest to bully me. Worst, these two girls even perform cyberbullying. At this time, I learned enough to fight back and at least protect myself from them. A Chinese girl was so rude. She would say that I was ugly to shut me down. She told me to not bother her friends and herself. I tried to stay away from her but she kept following me and harassing me. In the last year, she tried to upset me again but I learned and successfully locked her mouth up. lol Most ss in this school were Chinese or relevant to Chinese. I was the only Vietnamese in the school. I would say that I am not racist, I obtain a stereotype of Chinese according to what ss in this school has shown me. Most of them always carried poker faces and were rude. They always asked for respect when they did not respect anyone at all. Sometimes, acts of violence were even being performed. Until now, I feel insecure when I see Chinese. It was natural that I was alone, which I felt safer than interacting with other ss, in this school. The dean of the ss whispered to my enemy behind my back that, "I would never change". Today, my answer is "why the fuck do I have to change?" as I am independently doing so well in college. Each school has challenges to help ss grow. This school had a really good one, which was to challenge ss to transfer to another school. The challenge of this school successfully worked as the school successfully shut down. I try so hard but still cannot forget all of the horrible things that I face in this school. The memories are still haunting me. However, these experiences make me become a very strong person today. Yet, it still does not make any case for the school to violate ss's rights, for teachers to be irresponsible and ignorant, and for pp to verbally or physically hurts other pp. STOP THE VIOLATION. read more

If you are looking for an overly structured schedule for your child, this school is good for you. If you are looking to learn Chinese or even gain a foothold in academics, you should look else where. Chinese curriculum - yes it's true that they introduce Chinese to kids right at Kindergarten and you get thrown a lot of characters to memorize. However that's where it stops. They do not go over composition or sentence structure. You just memorize a bunch of vocabulary and their meaning but you don't know how to use it. How is that preparing kids to survive in a multilingual world? History & Science - the textbooks are clearly marked with this line: "from a Christian perspective." That says it all. If you plan to keep your kids at Cornerstone from K-12 then I guess it's ok but if your kid plans to jump to public high school,. they will be laughed at for reciting anything from those textbooks. My best advice is to study for the test to get the A and promptly forget whatever those books tell you. I do recognize that this is a Christian school but history is history and science is science. What does Jesus have to do with it? Homework help - you don't get any. I don't think the kids are prepared with a basic foundation of how to do the homework in class. The teachers over rely on parents to do all the teaching at home. Now if I pay you $10K a year for tuition, shouldn't that be your job and not mine? Cornerstone is very very focused on artistic performance and sports. They do pretty well in the CYO games and they have endless performances. I'm not training my child to be an athlete or actor. I just want the 3 r's competently taught. Another star for the cafeteria staff. I can vouch that their cafeteria food is better than the slop that's served in public school. That is all. My son attended Cornerstone since Kindergarten. The school runs the lower grades very well, especially pre-school and elementary over at the Silver site. But as they moved on to middle school, they somehow tends not to have enough parent teacher conferences as they used to have before. However, they do keep all the Field Trips going. The teachers are all wonderful and caring, which gives me a peace of mind at work when I leave my kid there for the day . Parking on campus is a breeze as they have their own gated parking lot, which is a big plus. I do not feel the school is overly heavily influenced on Christianity at all, never do they force parents to attend any church events. They do use some (not all) text books that would have Christian values, but would usually just lightly touched on the subject. I am a Christian myself, so this doesn't bother me at all. Also it's very clear that this is a Christian school, so what would you expect? I really appreciate that over the years they never force students to sell chocolates or other stuffs to meet a target for fund raising. Donation to the school is on a voluntary basis. My son left Cornerstone for Public High School and one thing he told me is Cornerstone teachers really cares and that already said it all! read more

I am still proud of myself to say that I was graduated from Cornerstone Academy. There are a lot of successful alumni and students who graduated from this high school. First, this school has trained me to become an ethical and good person in this diverse world. I have learnt to communicate and get along with different types of people. Second, this school has provided me with adequate training on these subject matters. Technology, Mathematics and Science. Third, this school emphasizes on building leadership skills and communication skills. These are the fundamental skills for the adults to survive in this competitive world. From my personal experience in Cornerstone Academy, I have developed strong and cohesive relationship with teachers, pastors and classmates. I attended Cornerstone from the Pre-School up until middle school before I transferred to a public high school after that. While there were some great teachers (s.o. to Mr. Lew) the other teachers really ruined the school for me and left me with deep psychological scars and trauma I still carry to this day. I remember on many occasions being asked or forced to stand outside of the classroom for a variety of reasons ranging from not having my homework done or acting up in class. While I do recognize that I wasn't a perfect student, standing outside of the classroom really hurts students in general, both academically and mentally, since you're not learning when everyone else is learning and your only option is to wallow in shame and extreme sorrow for being sent outside. Teachers address bullying sporadically, basically, if you're on the Honor Role and the teachers like you, they will side with those students and treat them so nicely. Myself, not being the best students got drastically different treatment from my teacher. When the good students, get bullied, the teachers get so up in arms and furious at the student who bullied. But if you're not a good student, you get the equivalent of "Deal with it". Lord help your soul if the bully is a good student. Bottom line, if you decide to enroll your student in this school, please make sure that your child knows that he/she can trust you as a parent as someone to talk to, right now I really wished that I had spoke with my own parents about what had happened to me for over 6 years (being sent outside, ignored when being bullied) so that they would've complained to the school and pulled me out. read more

there is a reason why this school requested all its comments to be removed. they seem innocent enough, till you find out about the real behind the scene actions. i should be more fair this school does have good academics and can teach well, but they have a overly heavily influence on Christianity. the history book used, they had claimed Malcom X to be delusional and insane and i have the book still to prove so. i also remember not being able to eat dinner at a camping trip for not remembering a bible verse, they are extremely over the edge on Christianity, also forced upon you. i would have to say the school did make me more prepared academic wise, but not socially from transition as a cornerstone student to the real world. its a very overly sheltered school. also with complaints from former teachers that they were overly working students. read more

Nothing good can come out of a school that is made from a former prison. Bullying is definitely a big problem in this school, but not many people are aware of it. Teachers play favorites. And in many cases, the teacher and his/her favorite students gang up on students that they don't like and bully them. If a favored student accuses another student of doing something bad without proof, the teacher believes what was said by that favored student and severely punishes the other student. The punishments that the teachers bring forth on their students can be considered as child abuse. The way teachers speak to students when they are punished is like how a dictator speaks to a captured prisoner while slowly torturing him. I understand that they are children, but don't children deserve respect too? I mean after all, they are human beings. If you want children to grow up into respectable adults, you should first show them respect and common courtesy, so they have a good example to follow. If parents knew what really happened to their child when they leave them at this school during this day, maybe they'd think twice about sending them here. And many children will not tell their parents what really happened during school, due to fear. They just seem happy when they come home. But if you take your child out of the school and have them attend another school, you will really see a big difference. Talking is seen as a very big crime as this school. Students are never allowed to talk to each other during class. They are expected to sit in silence and do their work. This is just not right. I understand that kids should not talk excessively because it is distracting for their education, but this school goes overboard. You can't expect students to sit in silence and never speak a word for almost the whole, entire day they are at school. Students should be allowed to ask questions and discuss homework problems with each other. They can learn a lot through talking and having in-depth discussions with each other. Furthermore, this school is very cliquey. If your child is just not in THE clique, I guarantee you that he/she will not be very happy at this school. read more

This school focuses mainly on Christianty rather than on academics. Although this is a Christan school, literally every. single. thing has to relate about God. For example, all of the textbooks used are related to Jesus even if it is about history or science. Like what does God have to do with science?!? A few of the teachers are great but some definitely favor some students over another. A few of the male teachers clearly favor girls over boys. They sometimes touch and even hug girls. Mr. Yee always tries to be cool around girls even when his wife is there. Mr. Fung also tries to be cool to girls. They're such pedophiles. The food in the cafeteria are better than the food from public schools tho. The restrooms and lockers are nasty. I saw a dead rat in a sink of a restroom before. Gross. The p.e. teachers don't even exercise. They are no where near fit. Ms. Loo's nipples always poke through her shirt even when she's wearing a thick hoodie. (Mr. Yee's nipples too) she really needs to wear a bra or at least some pasties. The school is also really creepy. When I walk in, I feel the chills running along my back. I've seen a ghost there before. Sometimes, the classroom door closes by itself when there is no wind. Mysterious... This school makes me feel like I'm in prison or in a mental hospital since there are so many locked doors, chains, barbed wire fences, etc. I've been in this school from preschool to the end of middle school and the only reason I went was because it was close to my house. the school looks too much like a prison cell and the inside is just like a prison.... the teachers are too strict and the students have no way in expressing their feelings.... the lunch food are horrible!!!! and TOOOOOOO expensive!!!!!! they give way too much homework...and the teachers are most unreasonable people i have ever met!!!!!! uniforms are very uncomfortable and we even have to wear it on a very hot day. a student got expelled by pissing off a teacher. the schedules are arranged in a way that it makes student walk up and down the stairs to their lockers and classes. some male teachers tend to get touchy and WAY too close to female student. students may not hi light their hairs, if they do, the school will tell him/her to dye it back. the teachers make students hate school. the teachers are STEREOTYPES!!!! i know somebody whos been punished and put down for a actions without being done. i really dont recommended this school if you want your child to be happy!!!!! read more
