This space is likely most famous for The Grateful Dead's May 8th, 1977 show & live recording that is considered by many Dead Heads to be one of their very best ever shows. Interestingly, The Dead (the current iteration of The Grateful Dead as several original members have transcended) recently announced a new show at this venue to take place on May 8, 2023. Tickets are pretty expensive & only available via a lottery system so good luck if you're interested in going!

At DIGIVATIONS@Cornell University, nature isn't a backdrop--it's the stage, the classroom, and the…read moreinspiration for every day's adventures. From the moment students arrive, they are immersed in the natural beauty of Ithaca's Finger Lakes region. Morning workshops often take place outdoors beside Beebe Lake, with its cascading waterfalls setting the tone for creativity and calm. Students write in journals beneath the trees of the Cornell Botanic Gardens, or design science experiments inspired by the micro-ecosystems in the Cascadilla Gorge Trail just steps away. Whether it's mythic storytelling on woodland paths, LARPing through sun-dappled fields, or pausing to reflect beside a quiet stream, campers learn to see nature as both a canvas for their imagination and a partner in their learning. Daily movement is grounded in nature too--campers hike, build temporary outdoor sets for performances, and observe the stars in open-sky astronomy sessions. At DIGIVATIONS, the natural world becomes part of the narrative--where Artemis might guide a quest through the woods, or a physics lesson unfolds in the arc of a skipping stone. Students leave with more than knowledge; they leave with a renewed relationship to the earth and their place in it.

Hi Lanes is a staple of Homer, NY. It's tucked back on a side road and has been there almost beyond…read morememory. It's a small place with maybe ten lanes. The decor is all pretty dated but I actually expect that in bowling places, just the same as I would at a dive bar. It was fun bowling with my family! We all found balls for ourselves, enjoying the process of wandering the alley, picking up balls until we each had the right ones. There was a mix of adults and kids and everyone found what they were looking for. Aside from our group, the lanes were really busy with the leagues in town who all gave off a kind of hardcore bowling but relaxing in the man's club vibe. The most shockingly awesome thing about this place was the food. You ever just have an unexpectedly godly burger? That happened to me here! I thought I'd be getting regular greasy spoon but then I bit into the most perfectly toasted, slightly crispy bun with soft burger and cheese. I mean, damn. Totally normal but the texture blasted me! Aside from that food was cheap and fast, served in baskets, again what you'd expect. There are other places in the area but if you don't feel like driving over to Cortland then Hi-Lanes will suit you just fine.

This isn't a large park, and it's a bit tucked away and mostly frequented by Lansing residents…read more There are times when it can feel VERY crowded given the size. Everything in the park is mainly around a little driving loop. Myers Park includes 19 available camping sites with each having electric and water hookups. For camping, the nightly fee is $36 for Lansing Residents and $40 a night for Non-Residents. For just generally visiting the park, admission to the park is free for Town of Lansing residents (with ID). Nonresidents are charged $6 per car. Since it's a Lansing park, and not a NYS park, NYS Empire Passes aren't able to get you access. Myers Park does take credit cards as a form of payment though (along with cash, obviously). There is a decently sized playground for kids (which you can see on the Facebook, here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/category/Sports---Recreation-Venue/Myers-Park-Playground-Project-MP3-433430860214/), boat launch, various picnic tables, and beach-y type areas to go into the water (it's not especially sandy... small rocks/gravel-type, mainly). Paddle-N-More is also located within the park if you want to rent canoes or kayaks (though not sure if they're currently renting anything out because of COVID - so check before you go if that's something you're looking for!). TL;DR I've been pleeenty of times over the years because I had family that lived in Lansing. Would I regularly pay the $6 per car now to get into this park? No. (I already have an Empire Pass and prefer to ensure I get my money's worth out of it.) But if it's a nice day, you want to rent a kayak or something, and it's not too crowded? Myers Park is a nice enough spot.
