The latest form, which I delivered over three months ago, was a Prior Authorization request from my prescription insurance, and even though I talked with my Doctor about it a couple of weeks ago during my semi-annual visit, and he wrote a new prescription, the insurance is still waiting for Prior Authorization and won't fill my prescription until they hear from him. Also, McIver uses the "Follow My Health" app, but the app doesn't recognize McIver as even existing. I use that app for some of my other providers with success. It doesn't matter if I call, leave a message, fax or visit in person; there is never one word of response. I'm pretty meticulous when it comes to following directions, using apps, and record keeping, but after spending weeks between McIver, the pharmacy, and the insurance, I'm resorting to this review, for whatever good it may do.

I had previously been seen in the emergency room at HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital, where the doctor documented that I was unable to bear weight on my right leg and provided a knee immobilizer. At the orthopedic appointment, the doctor asked why I was there and commented that I "looked perfectly healthy." I explained that my knee had been collapsing, shaking, and causing significant pain for several weeks, and that the ER doctor documented I could not bear weight on my leg. The orthopedist responded that ER notes like that can sometimes be exaggerated and also commented that since I am young, I should not be having these kinds of problems. As a patient, that was frustrating to hear. Being young does not mean injuries or knee problems cannot happen, especially when symptoms like instability and pain have been ongoing. I came to this appointment because it was the orthopedic provider covered by my insurance and I was trying to get answers about what is wrong with my knee. The doctor did order an MRI, which I appreciate, but the overall interaction felt dismissive and made me feel like my concerns were not taken seriously. I hope the office works on listening more closely to patients' symptoms and experiences. they also did not want to give me a work note when I asked for it at the front desk so I later had to call and they had an email me yet.

Of course no one wants to sit in a dr office, especially repeatedly - month after month. Of the MANY we have had over the years, this one is one of the better experiences. There is plenty of seating in a large waiting/reception area. Occasionally it is crowded and there may sometimes be a longer wait but I think this depends upon your appointment time (they try to be very accommodating when possible). The front desk staff are sufficiently well trained and always know who to direct your needs to. Once you are called to the back, you are put into your treatment room & the preliminary review is taken by very friendly technicians. A brief wait & the PA is available to address your concerns & review your progress, schedule needed procedures & offer words of encouragement. The PA's my wife sees are always smiling, interested in her concerns and well educated upon whatever procedures are being ordered. They take the time to answer her questions to her satisfaction, ease her anxiety. From all the PA's we have ever used - these wonderful ladies seem to actually care about their patients, take time without rushing, and always remain patient no matter how many questions we ask. The medical procedure side of the clinic is very well maintained - cleaner than some hospitals we have visited. Dr. K treats my wife well, and I appreciate him for that. The only reasons this didn't earn the full 5 stars : occasionally the patient bathrooms are less then well maintained, but this is understandable considering some of the patients can barely walk & Im Sure the staff is too busy to check after each patient. And often the tv is much too loud in the waiting room.
