The sausage was grilled just right. It comes sliced with the sauce poured on top. You get a thick roll on the side. The Curry sauce was flavorful and bold but not spicy. In the 7-8 CHF range so reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend for a sampling of the local flavor.

For marroni in Zurich, it's the same thing when you see the line at the Heisse Marroni in front of the Rennweg stop. That long line doesn't lie. You know something must be worth waiting for here. Four stars for kudos to the Italian men manning this Heisse Marroni seasonal stand (in winter). They are constantly scouring through the marronis being cooked, checking if there are any bad or burnt ones. Since there is a high turnover of marroni at this location, you worry less about those little marronis sitting in the heating container too long and being dried out and/or burnt. Like many other locations selling marroni, this one also offers a "socially responsible" marroni bag - brown bag split with two sides. One side holds the marroni, the other is for holding the empty shells, so that you are not littering the streets of Zurich. Not every location offers a socially responsible marroni bag, I recall I was shocked at the bag over at the Paradeplatz location when I received a bag without two sides - the shocking controversy!

The dim sum debacle…read more Wife knows what I like, and mentioned a dim sum place when we were walking from the train station dragging our wheeled carry-on to our hotel, half a mile away, in old town Zurich, Switzerland. We walked back, and right across the street from the Bahnhoff was a vendor spot with a sign "Dim Sum". Aluminum roof with three tables and five chairs. We go up to the counter, and immediately get what the previous couple had gotten: an order of pot stickers and dumplings. "Kleine order Grosse?" asks the vendor, a middle aged white dude, with his Chinese wife working in the background on making more potstickers or dumplings. Large order of course, and before I can get my credit card out, one large plate of pot stickers, and another plate of dumplings is served. Not piping hot, only warm, as if the meals were stored in a pizza heating container. "CHF38, bitte" says the vendor. $38 for two dishes from a food truck!? Now, you know why Zurich is the most expensive city in Europe. Credit card will cost a additional swiss franc. I'm absolutely famished, after last eating at 6am, with it now 130pm, after a 9,000 mile trip from San Jose, via Atlanta to Zurich earlier that morning. I'm eating like it's my last meal, devouring everything in front of me. Wife doesn't like the dumplings, saying it's too salty. So I finish up the dumplings, and she the pot stickers. As we finish up, the vendor asks us to pass the soy sauce to the next customer, as if the items were not salty enough! Seems that the food served here does taste familiar to me. My ex was infamous for discretely bagging pot stickers and dumplings from Chinese buffets. Those leftover reheated food buffet items! Three stars because service was so outstanding, and the vendor was considerate and kind. And we did finish our plates.

Last day of a 4 week trip around Europe and I have never been spoken to the way I did here. I spotted a shaded part of ground to quickly spray some sun cream before continuing my walk. I spray on my cream and am about to go on my way when I remember I better put my factor 50 on my legs. I have my bag on the bench outside this place that has no sign on it to say it belongs to the fast food kiosk. So I put my foot on the bench and quickly spray my legs with cream. BIG MISTAKE! Over comes an angry looking German man with a moustache and sprays my leg with the detergent. I think he's joking because I don't hear him as I have my headphones in. I laugh and remove my headphones. He then shouts saying I'm silly doing this here as people sit here. I look confused and say pardon? He says 'go over there, people sit here!' He then pushes me out of the way with his shoulder. At this point I have removed my sunglasses and headphones and I'm shocked at what's happening. I say 'oh I'm sorry but I came here because it was in the shade and all you had to do was ask me nicely not spray me with detergent and push me, that was very rude!' (It gets worse) Now out comes an Asian woman shouting at me in German, right in my face about which I assume is that people basically sit there and I shouldn't have my feet there. Which I totally understand but just tell people this in a nice way. I say there's no need to shout and you couldn't just politely asked me to move and I would've. She then screams something, gets in my face and actually kicks the bench with her feet. I mean what on Earth is going on!!! I say to her I don't know why she's shouting and she's only making herself angry. I'm sorry but this is a ridiculous way to treat someone. What an aggressive couple to own a food kiosk in the public industry. I would avoid this place at all costs as you may be shouted at and beaten if, god forbid, you have a genuine complaint about the dimsum. I say visit here at your own risk. If there were no stars I would give it such. Horrible people.

On my way to German class, I saw the marroni stand in front of the Stauffacher tram stop open for…read morethe season. Immediately bought a bag and tried eating it, but found: (1) almost every piece was burnt (2) my fingers turned black from the burnt marroni (3) around two thirds were not really edible as they were very burnt (4) it was not easy to crack them open as the shells were stuck and the marroni was dry (5) two of the shells were not crackable as they were very burnt. My German teacher also noted Stauffacher has one of the worse marroni stands in Zurich - that's quite a bold statement, but I have to say this is the first time I've had such bad marroni. Bad enough for me to give it a 1 star (which I don't enjoy writing negative reviews), but I didn't want anyone else to spend their good money and time at this stand. In my opinion since his marroni was so bad, he should not be in the business to sell it!

ANYWAY, as it is now towards the end of my trip, I'm hungry, and I love street food, so what better way to spend my last few swiss franc coins than a german sausage at the food stand in the main train station of Zurich? Oops, forgot I was in Switzerland and the 2 FR coins will do you no good. The chilliwurst I got here was about 6.50 FR, which is actually pretty darn cheap. Thank goodness I still had some EUR left on me, and they took it with 1:1 exchange, which is no longer a rip-off. I guess good things do come out of that Swiss Franc move. They have a selection of food at Buffet Express, but a tiny stand just for sausages. You get to pick different types of bread, and I opted for the one that already had a hole in the centre, specially made for wursts. The guy squeezed some ketchup into the hole, took the chiliwurst off the grill, and slipped it in (I feel like there's a joke here somewhere). The good: chiliwurst was very tasty and filling...and actually a bit spicy!!! The not so good: the ketchup shoots out from the bottom every time you take a bite at the top, and the only thing eating that ketchup is your coat. Overall, I was happy with my selection. P.S., I did walk around oldtown later to see what I can buy for 6.50 food-wise, and I only found sausages, so if you are hungry after you get off the train, I suggest you don't shy away from Buffet Express.

Despite living in Zürich the last four years, I somehow had never visited the infamous Longstreet…read moreBar until last Saturday. It was a surprisingly small venue, but adequate for a small stage with an intimate audience. The walls are red plush, and the ceiling is covered in bulb lights. Kind of a strange but cool vibe. There was a 3-man band playing songs which I felt totally sounded like Placebo. The audience seemed mostly Swiss and kind of just stood around with a few people bopping their heads to the music. I almost felt not cool enough to hang with all the sockheads... but perhaps they were sockheads due to the freezing weather outside--not just because they were hipster sockheads. But then again, a lot of the sock heads didn't remove their hats indoors... so perhaps they were actually true sockheads. There was a smoking room upstairs with another dj and turntable, but the room was somehow locked and we couldn't go in. It got really crowded as the night went on, so my friend and I bounced to go check out another bar. But all-in-all, this is kind of a cool place to check out, and live music is always nice.

The ceiling is covered by hanging old-school light bulbs all strongly dimmed. Music is usually low-key, loungy electric or rock...? Anyhow, the bar somehow makes me tired. It can get way to crowded, which makes it unenjoyable to me. Getting a drink at the bar when it's busy is a pain in the arse. One of Longstreet Bar's best features is its attached snack bar just outside with decent drunk food like sausage and burgers. Longstreet is a good stop on Longstreet bar hop.

There's only a couple of items on the menu but I'm never disappointed when I order the Bacon Baby. Anyway, for amazing hot dogs in Zürich, look no further!
