Her tail was always, always wedged under her butt. It took months before her tail slowly began to make its way out to a slightly noticeable wag to indicate some level of trust and pleasure. I will say she was up-to-date on vet care and vaccines, but her teeth were an absolute mess with two abscessed teeth. Slowly I began to realize this scared pup did not play with toys, did not respond to treats, doorbells, door knocks, other people, or even other pets. At 5-1/2, she had no clue what to do when I put a leash on her. I'm convinced she never even knew she had a name. She was never potty trained (at 5-1/2!!!), and potty training her now is a total bust because she will not respond to treats. She runs away when I offer her a treat, as if she's about to be grabbed by a bribe (the only explanation I can come up with). I've spent 2-1/2 years desensitizing her to people, sounds, changes in environment...building trust. As a hound dog, she showed zero curiosity, so I made a point of always getting her to smell everything. It's progress, and she's way more curious, but there's a long way to go. I've had 6 other dachshunds, and this sweet girl has few of the characteristics which doxies are famous for. I can only surmise that she was never socialized, never knew affection and love, and had very limited human interaction except to be treated as a tool. This breeder did a huge disservice to this poor beautiful pup. She has come a long way with a lot of work, and at 8 years old she is now very well loved and cherished and will always be even with the challenges. Every so often those doxie traits begin to show up as trust continues to build. Advice: be cautious if buying a retired breeder dog from this breeder.

Needed help with a high energy dog that was too much for a couple of mid 70s seniors because it…read morejust wasn't safe for the Mrs. to have a 66 lb. happy dog charging at her. One of the trainers at Liberty K9 came highly recommended and I now know why. Our dog was not vicious, just happy and eager to please. So eager she insisted on doing everything her way. She would not listen to any commands as she was too busy jumping on people. Walking was very difficult because she pulled on the leash and she is a strong dog. After a board/train session it is like we have a different dog. Sit, stay, come are all listened to and given the proper response. Last night the Mrs. took Brandie for a walk up the street. First time she has been able to do that since Brandie came into our lives. 2 doors away from us is a home with a little yipper and 2 greyhounds that started barking very loudly inside. Brandie looked in that direction but never put tension on the leash. When Renee moved on Brandie was at her knee. Same thing at the next house with a dog that really needs some training. Barking causes Brandie to look but she never pulls. This morning the Mrs. decided to try to make the end of the street so some traffic would be involved. On the way back a neighbor who knows (or knew) Brandie very well called out from his porch and the Mrs. told him it was ok to approach. This is a man who would come into the house and Brandie would wag her entire rear end while jumping and licking the whole time he was there. When he approached Brandie began to make a move, the Mrs. said NO and she sat back down. He put out his hand and then began petting Brandie who allowed it all without issue. He left and the Mrs. continued her walk with no pulling from Brandie. All of this was accomplished when the temperatures were well above safe for outdoor activities or raining. I can only imagine the results if more of her stay could have been productive time. Do we now have a military grade service dog? No, what we have is a great family pet. A pet safe around the grandchildren. A pet that is conditioned so that we can continue training and improve the situation daily. I honestly do not see how Liberty K9 could possibly disappoint you.
