High end merchandise, friendly staff, and ample areas to roam about as you take in the beauty of this store. We ended up in the area that sells food, wines, and cheeses. WOW is all that I can say. Each item seems as though it is was hand polished, set down with precision, only waiting for you to pick it up and place it in your basket. The cheese, chocolates, wines, all so spectacular in their own right. No on argues that this store is more expensive than others such as COOP, or Migros, but they are in different leagues. The wine department has a beautiful assortment of wines, liquors, and spirits with very thoughtful associates able to answer many questions. We enjoyed this very much. This store is designed for those who are able to spend their money without worrying about what the bill looks like. With that being said, we walked out without buying anything as we just started our day in Zurich. This store is mesmerizing, you must stop in and appreciate its beauty, even if you don't plan on buying anything. It is simply a treat.

It's a huge department store in the city center of Zurich with floors of everything from fashion to food. I only visited the food department which is located on the lower level so I can only describe my experience there. There are rows of foods from around the world and a large section of wines from around the world. They also have a decent Swiss wine section. The cheese humidor here is worth just popping into. It had the most amazing variety of cheeses from around the world. The fresh produce is also of the highest quality. There are a handful of restaurants in here serving cuisines from different parts of the world. We visited one called Nippon Sushi and the chef there made us an Omakase menu comprised of the chefs selection of sushi on the day. It was amazingly good and super fresh. You can lock me up in this place and throw the key away :-) an exquisite place to visit, browse and have a meal :-)

I'm glad I found a Groupon for a fantastic meal for two. Afterward, I went across to Mövenpick to sample a variety of red wines before picking out a lovely bottle from Chile. It's self-service, so you can pour yourself whatever you want to taste from all the bottles on display. At the register, I suddenly remembered that I had some UBS Keyclub points to redeem, so I was able to knock off CHF 20 from the purchase price. Awesome. Then I went upstairs to the always busy m.a.c. cosmetics counter, but a sales associate was quick to help me with my purchase, and then I was merrily on my way. Always an awesome experience at this upscale department store, but be prepared to shell out some big bucks.

They've got much fresher produce, and a much larger selection, than the Coop Pronto across the courtyard or the Next Stop across the street. In fact, the overall experience here is good enough I'll probably hit this instead of the HB Migros on Sunday after-hike shopping detours. Yes, it's a little hectic on a Sunday, when most grocery stores are closed --- but an order of magnitude less than the HB Migros. Their bread isn't half bad either --- certainly at the fresher, crustier end of the Migros spectrum. (The Alnatura Migros in Höngg turns in a particularly lackluster bread selection, this Express easily surpasses that). I first stopped here for picnic supplies; I was impressed enough to do my weekend's shopping on the way back past. Definitely a big help on empty-fridge Sundays.

It made me so late that I even missed my train! But all in all, it's been better before. It's almost always open (late night score!) They've got fruits n veggies- the normal grocery deal, but also fresh-made daily things for a to-go meal. It's cool that they have self-check out (but as I mentioned- it's really not so fun when the thing's demented!) I can't tell if it's bigger than the coop just 'round the corner... Buy your last minute dings with cash (don't say I didn't warn ya!)

The salad bar is completely devoid of any creativity and the Thai bar churns out anglo-ized dishes that can barely be called "Thai." The sandwiches are overpriced per Zurich-custom. There is a mouth-watering display of beautiful cakes and sweet treats right at the front. In the back, there is a revolving sushi belt with yummy sushi and high prices to match. I heard the ice cream stand outside is really good--even rivaling the Mövenpick store next door (gasp!), but I haven't tried it yet. Must give it a shot next summer. Adjacent to the food court is the department store area with home furnishings and stuff. And underground is the gourmet market, with lots of pricey, exotic stuff like a variety of decadent truffle oils.
