While spending almost 8 grand on a new AC is never fun, they made it a lot more bearable and easy. Our AC went out on a Friday night after the first full week of 105+ temperatures back in June. We waited until Monday to call because weekend service calls for anything like this are always astronomical. They showed up that same day! After seeing how hot it was in our house, they moved around clients that just needed regular servicing, to get our AC installed as soon as finally possible. They installed the new units on Wednesday and by Wednesday night, we were comfortable and cool again. The technician (who is one of the owners) and his helper were both super friendly and helpful and very caring. We've had a Freon leak in our system for years, which we just lived through by recharging the freon ever year, but once it was too bad this year, it was DONE. These guys helped us so fast and at a much more reasonable price that we had expected. read more

He was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and professional. He explained what he found to my husband and fixed the unit for such a fair price. I have used Coolway Mechanical for about five years now. I first got assigned to them through a home warranty company and they have been my service provider of choice ever since then. They have worked on my appliances and done extensive work on my heating and cooling systems in two different houses. Just last month two of their technicians went way over and above to make sure that I had air-conditioning when it was over 100° in Central Texas. James M. and William came to my house after a full day's work and then worked until after 10 o'clock at night to get my system fixed so that I could have air-conditioning for the next day. Jeff from Coolway came on less than 20 hours notice when the temp in my house had risen a frighenting and unbearable 21 degrees. This is the third time I have used Coolway for my HVAC issues-- and ironically the thankfully one small part that needed to be replaced ( which he did rather quickly and professionally) is perhaps the ONLY section of my HVAC that Coolway had not worked on previously !!! Do not use this company for anything. The front desk was little to no help, the company showed a complete inability to complete work in a timely manner and ended up costing us more money because of their lack of competence. We found Coolway originally a little over a year ago as recommended by a person locally. We have a lakehouse in the middle of nowhere Texas with complex Viking appliances that require a specialist to fix. We were in a large bind with several guests coming to the home and a refrigerator that couldn't cool. James drove over 2 hours to save us before eminent disaster. Since then we have had a dishwasher, oven, icemaker and several components of our pool equipment go down and have used Coolway for everything. (Don't buy Viking!) James literally specializes in anything and everything. He is extremely courteous and takes legitimate pride in the work he does. We have gotten to know him and his team personally after many trips back and forth to our home and I can honestly say they are as incredible as human beings as they are a professional business. I couldn't recommend a company for appliance repair any more than Coolway. They do a meticulous job and their pricing is very reasonable. We found this company to be horrible and have had to hire someone else to come out and redo everything they did. Plus, he only guarantees his work for 30 days. Anyone who installs thousands of dollars worth of equipment should guarantee their work for much longer than 30 days or there's a problem. These guys totally botched an install of a complete system in my house. It was a home warranty install and they complained the whole time about the home warranty company. I paid them over $800.00 out of pocket to 'bring things up to code', legit I guess, but the next day the heater stopped working. I had to get an electrician out the day after Christmas to get it working again. It seems like if they had been interested in bringing things up to snuff he would have pointed out the needed electrical upgrade. When the weather warmed up and I ran the AC it didn't work. I called Coolway to inquire about it before I called the warranty company and they informed me that the labor was only covered for 90 days. Fair enough but they were really rude and disrespectful about it and ragged on the warranty company again. Very unprofessional. I got someone else to come out and do the repair. It turns out the AC had broken because of missing parts in the install. Need I say more? read more

Coolway is a service provider for our home warranty company, and we found them to be completely untrustworthy. James diagnosed faulty parts and a clogged drain, and because the clogged drain was due to "lack of maintenance," parts replacement and repair would not be covered under the home warranty. He actually stated that we had "water in our system" which caused the fan motor and controller and control board to fail. Since this didn't pass the smell test, we had another HVAC company go out and take a look. They cleaned the primary drain pan and made sure the drain line was clear, and turned the system back on. No problems. All parts were working. Narrowly escaped having $2100 worth of parts and labor done on a system that works FINE. What a scam. read more

I saw the review about someone using the Coolway Mechanical name. I spoke with the co-partner of Coolway mechanical about his brother and nephew using his company's name. in the New Braunfels/San Marcos /Lockhart area They ripped me off of nearly $900. I had to pay an additional $750 to get the repair done correctly. I'm currently pursuing charges and a suit against the thieving brother and nephew. So, beware and verify who is doing the work for you. Make sure you have the right people before you pay anything! Coolway Mechanical, the real guys, were helpful when I called to investigate. However, since at least 2 people are known to Coolway Mechanical, actually being relatives, I believe Coolway should do more to put these two out of commission, filing charges etc., as necessary to prevent them from cheating and ripping off more people. Wow, my experience with these guys could not have been more different than the other reviewer on here. His guys did an awesome job! They spent two and a half days in my super hot attic fixing the a/c duct work that another shop had done a horrible job on. With all the labor involved they were very reasonably priced. The shop owner James came out and assessed the problems with my a/c. He explained everything that would need to be done, and took his time to show me what all was wrong, even though he was squeezing me in at the end of the day and can't have planned on spending that much time. They write up a contract so you know what you'll be paying, which means the overtime they worked on day 2 was without extra pay. His nephew Wayne and another guy (sorry I can't remember his name) came out and did the work. Like I said, my attic was super hot, but Wayne was so committed to getting the job done, his co-worker had a hard time convincing him to come out to cool off and stay hydrated. They had to replace the plenum and return and run return duct work so after tearing out the moldy duct-board plenum and return the first day I had no a/c for the rest of that day or the next. They had to stop there on day one because they needed to get the new plenum and return built and had coordinated with another company to clean any mold from the ducts before putting in the new stuff. On day two they installed a metal return and plenum (it will last a lifetime and is easy to clean should mold issues ever arise again) and worked from 9 in the morning to midnight so we would have functioning a/c before they left. They came out one more day to finish sealing everything up and make sure the balance of air going to each room was right. They did a great job! That being said, these are guys working with heavy equipment, sharp edges and in hot cramped spaces, they can use colorful language as they go about their work. It didn't bother me but if you have tender ears you might want to stay out of ear shot while they're working :) That's the only reason I can think of that the other reviewer would be so harsh about them. As for me, I was so impressed with their work ethic I wasn't worried about leaving them alone in the house while I ran errands. All they cared about was getting the job done and done right, I've had other jobs done where I thought the company was just a front to case houses for stealing, these guys though were true blue :) read more

Our home warrenty provider, "Old Repudlic" sent Coolway Mechanical to service our pool heater. This has become a 2 month ordeal that has yet be be resolved. After the initial inspection, they technician decided to replace the pressure sensor. One week later, David arrived on site to replace the pressure sensor, and relized this was not the issue. David decided to replace the circuit board in the heater, 2 wks later, he arrived to replace the circuit board, and relized, this was not the issue.Several days later he showed up to replace the transformer. David wired up the transformer, and laid it across the burners. When he turned the breaker to the on position, it shorted out the transformer and threw the breaker again.David stated it had a low voltage short. It clearly shorted out due to the fact it was laying sideways on the burners. David then came to the conclusion that the unit needed to be replaced. Two weeks later Old Repudlic approved the replacement of the pool heater. Three to four weeks later he arrived to install the new unit. Aproximately eight hours later, he states the circuit board is faulty and has blown an internal fuse. Hmmm, we've heard this before. With my frustration, I instructed David to have a proper techinician complete the installation on the pool heater. The next week, a Pentair service technicain arrived to asses the the pool heater issues. The diagnosis was inproper installation. The Coolway technician installed a flex line on the gas line that was not up to "Code" and restricted the flow of gas to the pool heater. The pool heater was functioning as designed, but the gas flow was restricted due to installing the gas line inproperly. I'm currently in the process of hiring a plumber to install the correct piping to the heater. Save yourself the frustration and the headaches, stay clear of Collway Mechanical! read more
