While walking around Klyde Warren park, we came across the Coolhaus ice cream truck. They offer ice cream sandwiches, ice cream, cookies, rootbeer floats, drinks, etc. The cashier was friendly and quick. The cookies they had on the day we went were: chocolate chip, double chocolate, confetti, Reese's, salt & sugar nutella, snickerdoodle, fruity pebbles, gluten-free coconut almond chip, and vegan ginger molasses. The ice cream flavors they had on the day we went were: vanilla, salted chocolate chunk, mint chip, strawberries & cream, dad's secret stash, coffee oreo, makers mark manhattan, cookies & cream, and mango sorbet. There is plenty of seating around the park. The ice cream was creamy, not overly sweet, smooth, and well blended. The flavors were all there and you can taste that quality ingredients are used. Man. It was hot in Dallas. Like really hot. And my niece and I were exploring Klyde Warren Park and while there were beaucoup food trucks, we had just eaten. And then we spotted Coolhaus! They were advertising ice cream sandwiches with homemade cookies! Yes please. I had chocolate chocolate chip with strawberry ice cream and my niece had the same cookie with mint chocolate chip. I went and was trying to decide between whiskey lucky charms and fried chicken & waffles. I was told I could only try one and I had already tried whiskey lucky charms, so that's what I felt like I had to get. They should at least limit samples to two. Recently got the chance to try Coolhaus at Klyde Warren Park and I must say it was a tasty treat! Being at the actual truck, I knew that they were limited on flavors because cmon let's be honest. It's a small truck. There was a long line behind me but the young lady at the window was kind enough to let me sample a flavor. After picking my flavor, I decided on my cookie. Overall I ended up with the blackberry ginger sorbet with salt and sugar Nutella cookie. The ice cream itself was nice and refreshing, just what I was looking for on a bright sunny day. It was tart with a hint of spice. Now the cookie, now let this be known that I am not really a cookie sandwiches fan. The temperature of the ice cream usually makes cookies, in general very hard, therefore making it somewhat difficult to eat, BUT HOWEVER this was not the case. The cookie was just the perfect consistency, soft and didn't harden with the temperature of the ice cream. The salt and sugar cookie I got had the perfect sweet and savory combo with a hit of hazelnut with the Nutella. It was pretty awesome. Overall my Coolhaus experience was great! I went to this cute food truck at Klyde Warren Park for lunch today. Yes, for lunch. We finally had a warm day in Dallas and it's a Friday, so why not. I had a nice conversation with the guy in front of me about what flavor combinations we would do. There were fruity pebbles cookies and even a cookie that had potato chips, pretzels, some other variation of potato chip, and something else in it. I definitely wanted to try that one for its uniqueness but also really wanted the coconut almond cookie. As I was explaining my dilemma to the fellow patron, the guy working the food truck said that I could have 2 different cookies for my ice cream sandwich! Woohoo! I got the green tea flavor ice cream to complete my order. I realize it's a weird flavor combination, but it allowed me to try everything I wanted to try. The pretzel/potato chip cookie actually had a nice pretzel in the middle of it. I really appreciate the attention to detail that was given to my ice cream sandwich because the "prettier" cookie was on top and the coconut almond one was at the bottom. The top cookie was soft and was very easy to break into with my mini spoon. I think the almonds in the second cookie made it a little harder to eat with a spoon unfortunately, so I was jabbing at it for a while. The green tea ice cream is made with matcha and had a rich and creamy flavor. I would definitely order it again, but it overpowered the cookie flavors a bit. read more

This was a wonderful treat on a warm Saturday afternoon in September! My husband and I were strolling through Food Truck Lane in Klyde Warren Park and couldn't help but join the 3-4 people in line for Coolhaus. Loved the ice cream that had a surprisingly strong coffee flavor and really enjoyed the chewy and delicious cookies it came with. I think I liked the ice cream so much that I'd order a single scoop of the oreo coffee ice cream with a chocolate chip cookie on the side. My husband ordered the brownies just to try it and it went well with the chocolate chip cookie/oreo-coffee ice cream combo I had. Not sure if the brownie fares as well on its own. Both times, I've gone with a safe choice of the double chocolate cookie with vanilla bean ice cream. I was surprised when I first took a bite and the cookie was pretty soft and chewy. The texture and richness of the cookie was perfect. The ice cream however, wasn't anything too special. Good and creamy vanilla bean flavor. Not too sweet and perfect combination with the cookie. It was a nice treat for a hot summer day, although it started to melt and get messy. I paid $5.50 for the sandwich, which was pretty pricey but a normal food truck price in my opinion. On a recent tour of Dallas, we were advised to try Coolhaus--the BEST food truck and a MUST TRY according to our Dallas tour guide. Not wanting to get my hands all messy with an ice cream/cookie sandwich combo, I opted to order something a bit more feasible to walk around with on a warm, sunny Dallas day: a Nutella coffee Affogato. Boy, was I wrong to think this wouldn't get messy--it ended up messier than my friends' ice cream sandwiches. Traditionally, an affogato should be a scoop of ice cream or gelato topped with a shot of hot espresso, so heavy ice cream or gelato and light on the espresso. Given that Coolhaus called this a "coffee affogato", I'm not going to take points away, but I was really thrown off by how the drink was filled to the brim and towering over even before I could reach my seat. We're going to call this a $6 fail because if I really wanted 12 oz overflowing coffee with a scoop of ice cream thrown in it, I would have asked for exactly that, not an affogato. I did take a bite of a couple of my friends' ice cream/cookie sandwich combos and the best was the red velvet & Nutella. I had the Coffee Oreo Cookie Ice Cream sandwiched between two yummy Ginger Molasses Cookies and my husband had the Dirty Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream (Dirty = real mint leaves with a hint of brown sugar) sandwiched between two chocolate chip cookies, both were yummy! Coolhaus I wanted to love you so badly, but alas, some things in life are not meant to be. It's like an old people version of the traditional ice cream truck - instead of the homey, tune-playing kiddy truck, say hello to sleek aluminum paneling and "architecturally inspired gourmet ice cream." I got a chocolate chip cookie/dirty mint chip ice cream sandwich, figuring it'd be hard to go wrong with my favorite ice cream flavor. The cookies are the thin, almost-hard-but-still-chewy type - and I normally like chewy - but as far as chocolate chip cookies go, they were far from impressive. Not that they were bad or anything, but they weren't memorable. And on top of that, I could barely taste the ice cream. That may also be attributed to the fact that mint chip is oftentimes a lighter flavor anyways, I'd still like to taste more than cookie + coldness in the middle. And at $5.50 a pop, I'm expecting a satisfying refresher from the blistering TX sun. Then again, the list of quirky ice cream flavors on their website is long enough to shame Santa's list of presents, so I'll probably end up trying something else (that hopefully has more flavor) anyways. I had originally ordered the sweet potato and marshmallow swirl ice cream, and the lady asked if I wanted to sample it first. I could definitely taste the sweet potato, but it left a kind of greasy feeling in my mouth, so I decided against it. They also had strawberry mojito sorbet, coffee, caramel and bacon??, their versions of vanilla and chocolate, and a few others. Choose your flavor, choose your two fresh baked cookies (and they have some pretty unique flavors, of both ice cream and cookies!) and then voila! You've made a sandwich. And now there's even a location at the Dallas Farmers Market, in The Shed. The cookie flavors and options are incredible and are always fresh. Same thing for the ice creams. Great flavor selection as well as fun, interesting, delicious flavors! I love mixing my sammie up with 2 different cookies held together by whatever ice cream I'm craving in the moment (usually their salted caramel!). I've made my friends and family believers in this stuff! Tip: Get the potato chip butterscotch cookie, don't question it! I'm an out-of-towner, and I had been craving ice cream after consuming a lot of flank steak and ribs at Texas de Brazil the previous night. So when we arrived at Klyde Park, it was great to see a dessert only truck amongst the burgers/tacos/sandwich trucks. It's really easy to see why this truck does so well. All you do is select a cookie and ice cream and you've created an ice cream sandwich. So I picked a red velvet cookie with a nutella rocky road ice cream. The cookie was relative soft and the ice cream was quite sweet (compared to Jeni's) but nonetheless the combo was perfect to have on a sunny, beautiful day in a crowded Klyde Park. It's really a handy size for a dessert and they provide spoons if you want to eat the ice cream first. Another nice thing about coolhaus is that the line moves fast, as it should. Amazing hazelnut/vanilla mix on Sunday! It was basically nutella ice cream - something that is pretty hard to find where I'm from (Boston). The two coconut almond cookies that sandwiched the ice cream were also fresh and tender. Could taste the coconut flakes. Great ice cream, perfect for a weekend snack and stroll in the park.
