Pretty average wine and a poor wine-tasting left a sour taste in our mouths. The sommelier was rude…read moreand offended most of our party of 9. Her disinterest in us as potential customers showed through and we clearly weren't cool enough / dressed expensively enough / had a large enough wallet to warrant her time or being polite. She dismissed us loudly in front of the couple she was serving at the time and then directly to me. She managed to get us through a selection of 5/6 wines in less than 10 minutes. Having just spent several hundred dollars at the prior wine tasting up the road, this was clearly their loss. On to our meal. Unfortunately we ordered our food before the wine tasting. This arrived in dribs and drabs as and when the waitress could be bothered / felt appropriate. The food was quite good, but overpriced compared to the other local restaurants. The waitress was odd, disengaged and bordering on pretentious. She seemed like she was attempting to float around the room in some other worldly plain clearly not the same one as us. I cannot and would not recommend this restaurant, winery or wine. Try one of the many others in Martinborough or the Wairarapa. #alanaestate

A most positive dining experience…read more Four of us enjoyed the environment, and were never rushed to finish up, even though we closed up the restaurant at 10:30pm. One diner enjoyed the beet root and feta risotto, and the other three each order the grilled swordfish (see photos). Side dishes of salad and green bean were needed to supplement the main plate. Desserts, one poached pear, and one coconut/chili panna cotta were okay. A definite return!
