There are lots of activities here at the physical library, but I tend to use this library as my springboard into the electronic library for books on my tablet, particularly for travel. There are those times, however, when having a physical book in my hands just feels right and here is where browsing the shelves for that perfect read is actually fun. The librarians are helpful and knowledgeable and always friendly.

How does one measure a tiny library in a quaint, touristy, small town with a population of just…read moreover 1,000 people? You can't compare the City of Joseph's library to the great Seattle Public Library downtown or even to the Boise Public Library (you know, the one with an exclamation point after "library"?). But here's what I can tell you: when you first walk in there's an Irish Setter who will greet you and follow you around, or sit next to you pandering for some petting. There's a friendly librarian who is more than happy to help you find what you're looking for (in my case it was inspirational quotes). There are dedicated volunteers, a free wifi connection, a separate room for kids. And there are infrequent visits from people in the area dropping off books and checking out more. This is a great place to visit for a quiet afternoon of reading (I saw at least two chairs with ottomans in the main area) or a great place to set up shop for a couple hours and read the daily newspaper or work on school deadlines. A library is a place for book lovers but here u can come for music, arts, kids time or even to rent a movie. It has different events on differnet days. I wanted to get a used copy of Bossypants and the guy helped me find it for $9.50, a total steal. Ninety percent of their books are used and most all are in great quality. You'll also find a cat chilling in the children's book section, giving a cozy, homey feeling. Looking Glass Books is definitely worth a quick stop when driving on I-84.
