After my family and I had finished hitting up the big touristy attractions we wanted to do in Buenos Aires, we had an extra day and were looking for something to do. Luckily, my sister and I yelped activities and found the Tierra Negra Cooking Class. Run by locals Veronica and Manuel in the Palermo Hollywood district, they have two distinct menus that are done on different days. The street food + mate menu is available on Wed and Fri 10am-1pm and is 75 USD. The other menu includes empanadas + flan + dulce de leche on Tues and Thurs from 6-9 pm and Saturday 10am-1pm and is 68 USD. When booking the reservation, they will ask you to put in a small deposit through PayPal and only after receiving the deposit will they disclose the actual address. Although the street food menu seemed really fun, we only had one free day and so we ended up doing the empanadas class. However, my whole family agreed we had an awesome time regardless. Both Manuel and Veronica were great hosts and clearly showed their love of food. Manuel provided the cooking demonstration explaining the reasons for certain steps or ingredients. Veronica, on the other hand, made sure everything was running smoothly and provided excellent explanations of the wines. It helps that the food and the wine pairings were delicious too! My only note to future participants is that you should not expect to cook the whole time, but act more as an observer. At the end of the class, Veronica helped prepare a ride back home and later emailed the recipes for the food that was prepared during the class. Again, they are foodies and have extensive food knowledge so if you have any questions about where to eat they are also great resources! Overall, the Tierra Negra Cooking Class is a highly recommended experience for something unique to do in Buenos Aires especially if you are a foodie.

Worth every penny. We saw all the wonderful reviews on TripAdvisor for Tierra Negra and then…read morenoticed it was a short walk from where we were staying. With some last minute emails back and forth we were able to get into a class we wanted considering it was September and well it is slow season! It was one of the best experiences of my life. Manual and Veronica were gracious hosts and teachers. They say during the Christmas holidays they get so busy they end up having two classes per day. We did a version of the Street Food + Wine class, and we really did get to cook. I will let the pictures speak for themselves. They email you the recipes afterwards which is great because I loved all that we ate that day. Will definitely do this again if I am ever back in Buenos Aires.
