Contaminated gown they made me wear at 39 weeks pregnant

MAJOR HEALTH RISK: I am 39 weeks pregnant and went in with constant severe lower back cramps for hours and was worried about my baby. My experience was anything but reassuring. I was told by the nurse that I should not have come there and I should have gone to Florence (where I'll be delivering). Why would I drive an hour in a half if I'm worried about my baby? I'm going to go to the closest place that I know can make sure she is okay....the doctor said "you're only 3cm dilated you're pregnant your back is gonna hurt" the nurse laughed at the remark and left the room. After being completely ignored (my heart rate was 120-140 and my blood pressure was so low the alarm on the machine was going off the whole time and no one said anything about it. They said I need to go home and take a shower. That's when I changed and saw that they had me in a contaminated gown. I am fearful of what bacteria or virus's may have been on this. I showed it to them and the nurse laughed and said "oh yeah that's dirty hahahahah" they then didn't even have the common curtsy to show me where the exit is. I don't know what to do if I get sick from this gown. The part that is contaminated was down near my private parts.

On 12/29 I fell and shattered my ankle pretty badly. Horry County Fire and Rescue came and were amazing and I was taken to the CMC ER. My nurse Dawn was phenomenal and caring. Sophie the tech who did my splint was professional and knowledgeable. I was given everything I needed before leaving and told if my splint needed to be redone (due to swelling) to come back. I had to go back 12/31 to have the splint redone (again swelling and not any fault of the medical care). Sophie came in and had me redone in no time. I was incredibly grateful for the amazing care. I know going to an ER is never a fast or easy process since we never know the criticalness of the other patients, but everyone was 100% top notch.

I'm concerned that if I get routine care and have an emergency on the same day.... that I won't be helped due to their crazy rules.

Although I did not walk away…read moresatisfied with the service, nor respected as a person/patient/parent, I can still share a few things that I did like about this ER. Good things first - the security guard at the front desk was pleasant, attentive and helpful when we arrived. The waiting room was quiet, and we were called in very quickly. The first nurse who took our information and my daughter's vitals was efficient and kind, as was the second nurse who spoke to us in more depth about our situation was also very kind. They were both compassionate, respectful of my daughter not wanting strangers to touch or get near her if they didn't have to, and they genuinely seemed to want to help. They even got us a popsicle and juice to try and help soothe my daughter and actively work on hydrating and cooling her down. We didn't have to wait as long to be spoken to as we did in other ERs that we've visited. Now the bad parts - the doctor, I won't mention her name, was one of the rudest people I've ever met. She had the most entitled attitude from the minute she walked in, her tone and body language clearly emanated her opinions. I made it clear that we had been to another ER who sent us away without any solutions and that was why we were in her ER instead. But she made no effort to ease our minds or offer better support. In fact she continuously said their ER was not a full service ER and that any labs done would not be handled like a full service ER and at best it would take 72 hours for results. I advocated for what I wanted, which was fluids to hydrate my daughter, and their response was that my daughter wasn't dehydrated enough (AKA she had to get much sicker before it would be flagged as an issue). She was very defensive in her communication, reacting as if my questions were stupid or redundant. Instead of working with me to be proactive and not make our situation worse, they offered options we didn't agree with and that led us to forego any treatment at all from this ER. This was our choice, but I was incredibly disappointed in their ability to treat a pediatric patient, I felt they were very ill-equipped literally and figuratively. We essentially paid a large sum to sit in a room for 2 hours being rudely "spoken down" to. Obviously you go to the ER when you have no other option, not every ER visit will have the circumstances we had nor the doctor we had (if you're lucky) so take this review as you will. But I do warn anyone with a pediatric patient - prepare yourselves for a rough experience.

The had to do a cat scan, iv medicine and iv pain meds and even through everything my bill was 113 dollars which most hospitals would've been thousands for just the cat scan. I can't think of anything bad to say I recommended them to my employees and even they said it's the best er they ever been to. If you need a er screw Conway or the strands this place is the best. And the best part is I don't have insurance and still got me great care and a super great price.

I have her pegged as a "Company Man," and not very bright or interested in patient welfare. As long as the providers stay off her ass and staff sees her as a friend' you know just one of the gang. It takes a lot of courage to do that job. I filed a complaint and got a boiler plate response, weeks later , by mail no less. It is no fun calling a patient after a complaint but it makes ALL the difference in the world. So, some advice to visitors. Go there if you have a rash or a fishing hook in the thumb. Maybe you stepped on a pop top? Blew out your flip flop? But that's it. Also why did the little baby doc order a troponin but no 12 lead ?

Patient should know what to expect at an appointment and who they are seeing. And, most importantly, CLEARLY COMMUNICATE with patient as to what are next steps during the appointment. Don't take a patient (a cancer patient, no less) and sit them in the Treatment Room with no explanation as this causes unnecessary stress to the patient - is the patient to expect a treatment or therapy that the doctor didn't discuss with them previously? am I in the wrong place? what type of treatment are they giving me? ONLY TO FIND THAT THEY HAD AN APPT WITH THE NURSE, UNBEKNOWNST TO THEM, AND WERE SIMPLY SAT IN THE "TREATMENT ROOM" to wait for a nurse to read them their lab results. Additionally, the staff is terrible at submitting prescription dosing instructions - thankfully, the CVS pharmacists are incredibly wonderful and called the office 3x trying to sort out and clarify the instructions. Do better and be more professional. And, note, to all local doctors and staff - ALWAYS INTRODUCE YOURSELF - "I'm Nurse/Doctor/Medical Assistant xxxxxx" so that way we know who you are and how you will be assisting us during our appointment. This is not only a simple courtesy but a professional practice that should be used.

It is VERY expensive to walk through the doors but I pulled from savings for my health. I have a complicated fatigue and hormone issue which has made me very sensitive to many chemicals. I was prescribed a few very potent hormones early on; however, when I asked to not add anymore supplements as every one that they tried resulted in an adverse reaction, which further complicated my health, the response was anger. Instead of allowing me to part of the decision making of my care, I was ignored and eventually discharged. I am now without a doctor and am still on these hormones he prescribed. I now have fear I will go through a withdrawal from these hormones and have nowhere to turn. The communication is poor. You are told to email a particular email if you have questions (which I did because I was having bad reactions to supplements and didn't know what to do next) but those emails were not responded to. I asked if we could hold on additional treatments through the nurse one day. She told me the doctor agreed only to change his mind and discharge me through an email on Thanksgiving day. I am told that their office is growing exponentially because of COVID and "there is no time to address my needs" (I was not told this when I signed up). Yes, I emailed often because I was not getting responses and didn't know what to do next. I am the patient and consumer who is paying a large sum to get provided good care. I was instead treated like they were doing me a favor. It is ironic that he has time to respond to every review (google, healthgrades, etc) and post on his Facebook page but does not have time for a patient who trusted him. Hopefully, if you decide to get treated there, you will get better care.
