I rarely leave negative reviews, but after nearly a year working with Contractor Website Services, I feel it's important to share my experience so other small business owners know what questions to ask before investing thousands of dollars. When I was searching for a website company, Contractor Website Services seemed like the perfect choice. Their website emphasized helping small businesses grow through digital marketing, improving search engine visibility, generating leads, and driving more customers to your business. Those were exactly the services I was looking for, and I felt confident I had found the right company. Once the project began, I was surprised by how much of the website I had to create myself. I wrote nearly all of the content, supplied the photos and video, and even hired a photographer. I expected the website designer to play a much larger role in creating the site, especially given the price I paid. After the website launched, I paid for monthly maintenance and blog services, must providing the photos myself. When I still wasn't receiving inquiries after several months, I followed the owner's (David) recommendation to add paid social media marketing, hoping it would improve my online visibility. Meanwhile, I realized the ongoing blog service depended on the photos I provided. I was encouraged to post additional blogs myself If I wanted to improve visibility. That made me question the value of paying a monthly fee for the service. I also discovered multiple website issues, and they were only fixed after I reported them. One of my biggest concerns involved ownership and access. When I decided to move my website service to another company, I discovered I did not have administrator access to the website I paid to have built. I was told I didn't have admin access because the designer (Scott) didn't want me to accidentally "click the wrong button". After several requests, I was finally added as a second administrator so I could have ownership of my own website and move my business to another website design company. I experienced a similar issue with social media contractor (Britney) when I decided to terminate the service--the accounts I paid to have managed were not under my ownership until I repeatedly requested access. The main coordinator (Sandra) strongly suggested that I should talk to the owner (David) before I decided to terminate the services. The meeting focused heavily on getting more services than solving my concerns. I don't question that the team spent time building my website or managing my accounts. My disappointment comes from the overall value I received compared to the significant amount of time, money, and personal effort I invested throughout the process. This review reflects my personal experience after nearly a year as a paying customer. At some point, I was on another company's site, and really liked it, so I found out who made it and it was Contractor Website Services. We contacted them and they got right back to us, and that's how it's been. They have been right on top of everything, but also patient with us and the realities of daily running our business while they helped create our website. So, years ago this company, then know as "Every Contractor", built a website for me. The site looked great, but lacked the ability to post/ change my photos as I chose. I guess that wasn't an option back then. Oh well, onward. Next David Johnson got me to sign up for "LEADS". What a disaster. To this day I have never received any value for the money I paid his company, and God forbid I should get a refund even though he admitted in a phone call to me a few days ago that he never felt like he had provided any services for my money. He said he called to be "humanitarian" and let me know that the last bad review I posted about his company had upset him and his family. Too bad, you can't always hit homeruns, David! He went on to tell me that with a personality like mine, I'd just never be satisfied. He recorded the call so he'd be sure to review it and know what he said to me. Finally, he told me "he didn't care what I wanted to hear", not exactly sure what that means, but that was the final straw. He refused again to refund any of my money. Look out people, this company is not all sunshine and roses, the guy at the top only seems to care about his own (guilty) feelings, and not so much about how the customer is ultimately treated. They can't all be good reviews, David. You need to take the good with the bad and make the occasional refund if the process just doesn't work out well. No services, no pay. Dave and his team built our professional landscaping web-site (Advantagenv.com) and the referrals keep coming in. We're averaging 10-15 calls a month and 15-20 contact forms filled out. Personally, I closed the last 4 referrals I've received from our web-site. Dave also built our non-profit's web-site (ATENV.org). Contractor Website Services built us a great website, it looks great and it has a super easy form where customers can get in touch with us, but the real value was in helping our search rankings. If you google cabinets or countertops in our area, we're not only the first result, but most of the entire first page of results are things that link back to our web site. You can have the best company in the world, but nobody ever looks past the first couple of search results, this is the most important thing about a web site. A lot of web site companies just slap something together from a template and call it done, which is a waste of money because stale web sites get bumped off the first page. These guys are different, they're always changing things around on our site and adding new stuff to it, making sure we're always the first thing people see. If you're looking to call someone and hear all the hype, the gold at the end of the rainbow or you need some magic Googlebeans, DO NOT CALL HERE because The TRUTH will definitely be all you get and sometimes, the Truth hurts. You know there are tons of things I thought I knew about Search Engines, Ranking, Google...etc. What I didn't know, was the foundation needed for making those tons of things to work efficiently.
