The staff are also very friendly in here which lights the place up more so than other Costas. My main reason for coming is because if you have a dog or pram with you this is one of the easier places in town to stop for a refreshment and natter, I would prefer to go to independent coffee shops because here in Brighton we are blessed with plenty, but spatially this place works better for catering to our pram/dog needs.

This Nero's despite being small and on the busy stretch of Western road- you can get run over by buses trying to get to your cafe- is the nicest in Brighton. The cafe has a nicer atmosphere than the one on Bond Street which seems a bit echoey. The staff are super friendly and full of energy and somehow the whole place feels much more alive- a good place to sit and read, watch people and contemplate whatever. I would go for the cappuccino and one of their cookies or chocolate twist things. It's also now one of the cheapest coffee chains.

That being said,it's right around the corner from the Pavilion Gardens, so you can always grab some lunch to go and eat it there. The salads in here always look amazing but as soon as I tried their filled foccacia breads I couldn't buy anything else. Personally, if it was just based on the food and coffee I would probably give 4 stars. Overall, I would be back if I needed a good, clean space to work but am still on the hunt for the whole package of amazing coffee and great food (healthy and vegan options are always a plus, but maybe I'm just picky).

My only gripe is that, every now and then, they are a little disorganised, especially when it's busy. If you find you've waited 10 minutes for your food, you'd better enquire (though you won't have any trouble - the staff are pleasant). They have a newspaper rack (they're not one of these antisocial places that throw away newspapers), and a competent toilet. It's a good place for peoplewatching of the comings and goings in St James's Street. One curious thing is that I have never, ever seen anyone drink alcohol there although there are alcoholic beverages (Polish beers etc.) on offer . Hungarian Goulash and Bread: £4 Now, I'm used to London prices and I was shocked. Surely I coulnd't get a decent lunch for under a fiver anywhere? Well, yes actually I can. It's annoying that i have to go to Brighton to do it, but it still made me happy. The only other Goulash I've ever had was in a plastic cup from Eat. And you can guess how good that is. But here it was spicy but still full of flavour. (I hate it when cafes throw so much spice in food that you actually can't taste anything else). It was fantastic. It made me forget that it was pouring down with rain outside (shame, it had been sunny the day before). I even managed to feel revived enough to do some of the Times crossword. Blimey. And I was still shocked that it was less than a fiver. It's a great little cafe and the next time I'm in Birghton I'll be back. It's a shame Hungarian food doesn't make a big splash in London. It really should.
