A technically proficient professional and an easy to talk to guy who explains things clearly and listens to your concerns and ideas. We hired Leroy White to take out an old, creosote-soaked chimney. It was a bit of a tricky job because it was in our living room and we have vaulted ceilings. He clearly explained how he was going to do it, calmly listened to our fears about chimney dust, holes in our roof, and broken floors, and then got the job done ahead of schedule! It's been over a year and a half now since we completed an extensive from-the-studs-out renovation…read moreof a 1907 building with Papi and Romano, and it just keeps getting better with age :-) We bought a magnificent apartment on the West End of Portland in December 2018 while living in California. To say that we started from the ground up is an understatement. Having chosen to work with Rick Romano and his crew from 3000 miles away, there are no words for the experience that we had and the product that they turned out. Yes, it took longer and cost more than we had anticipated, but as expected there were some nearly insurmountable challenges that came up along the way. The work provided by Rick and his crew; the extraordinary attention to detail in every single way can never be understated. They found ways to reuse every single original door and piece of hardware, while creating an entirely new space where those original doors became pocket doors, the transom windows/lights were reused in every place possible, original 1907 brick was exposed with doors realigned in the intention of John Calvin Stevens, the architect on our beautiful building, and every piece of cabinetry was created to perfection. As a design build firm, Rick and we worked out reconfiguring some of the original space and solved some issues of sound attenuation. For that we requested an outside opinion from our nephew, also an architect, who provided new and creative ideas. Rick was open to suggestions and ideas that were not his own, Chose to learn alternative ways of handling possible issues, and was gracious to a fault. He is a joy to work with (if not always the easiest guy to get a hold of :-) and every one of his subcontractors is top tier. I realize that it's been too long and that we haven't written him the review that he deserved, but it's nice to have lived in this beautiful space for some time now, and to appreciate him more every day. We cannot recommend Papi and Romano highly enough.

When moving to Portland and with no idea on who to contact for some repair jobs, I basically was…read morethrowing a dart at a list of repair companies. I took on a house that had a lot of surprises, mostly leaks in different parts of the house. Over the course of a couple years, they were trying to diagnose the issues, claiming all manner of things that even I, with almost zero experience in this stuff, found perplexing. At one point they said an entire window had to be replaced. I had to wait an entire month for it to be special ordered and delivered, and after tearing out my old window, the guy realized they ordered the WRONG SIZE, and the office put it on the tech to relay the news. Office wouldn't even call me. So I called them and they coerced me into paying for that one and simply adding slats of wood to the sides of the window, obviously because they didn't want to get stuck with useless product. Yes, I should have stood up for myself and made justified demands, but what could I do with a leaky window? And that wasn't even the source of the problem! Turns out NONE of the four or five different techs that came out ever diagnosed the correct source of the leak. And me, with zero knowledge construction was right about the source of the leaks the entire time. Got a father and son team to come in through word of mouth and have not had a single problem since. One of the techs actually fell asleep in the truck on the job. Yes, I have video proof and will upload it if I have to. Bottom of the barrel people working here, that I wouldn't trust with a set of Lincoln Logs. You live and learn. Never forget. Always trust good word of mouth.
