They have carvery and sandwich bar, my husband had Lasagne and wasn't good, he couldn't even finish it, too much bullion in it and I had just a ham & cheese toast, my ones are better. ( so, don't go there for food, drinks only) They also have a beautiful beer garden, very colourful and flowery and loads of seats. Heard they have live music it's quite good. So, I do think this would be one of those good places to go for drinks with friends, probably a late bar.

Of all the pubs in Mullingar, this one has always been my favourite because of the homely feel…read more They also used to have some good beer, namely bottled English ales available but I believe this is no longer the case coming from someone who was in more recently. The bar itself seems like an old man's bar, in fact it is full of old men usually. I fell in love with The Old Stand when I popped in there one wet and cold winters day while I was waiting for my wife to come in on the train. The fire was roaring and there was a cat wandering around. Myself being a cat person meant that the cat wandered over to me and jumped up on to my lap for a cuddle. When my wife got in I had her come meet me and we stayed for a drink. Next door is the off license where they have a wonderful collection of Whiskey and some good world beers. The heated and covered beer garden outside is quite big and attracts the younger crowd. There is one of those punching machines in there if you fancy a test of strength. I must try and get back some time and see what it's like these days. Unfortunately even though I only live 10 minutes drive away, it is over €20 each way in a taxi making it much cheaper to get the bus to Dublin for a night out.

The Yelp info said that the pub is closed on Sundays but I didn't believe it and I was right. Nice pub with large selection of mainstream beers (I had a pint of Beamish), plenty of rooms at two bars. I didn't explore whether the beer garden was open. No cats this time.

Druids Chair was recommend to us by our B&B. We found it to be a fun place, with some good food…read more On the evening we were here, in the middle of week, things were quiet. But that gave us an opportunity to get to know the staff and hear little bit about this part of Ireland. Well worth it in our opinion. We started of with a glass of wine and some Bulmers cider. Our server made some suggestions and we went with the Salisbury Steak, with a side of Chips and the Lasagna (photo). Both were very good, flavorful and served properly. We had no negative experiences here. Expect to pay around €45 as we did, depending on how thirsty you are. Enjoy!

Low ceilings and high chairs. There is plenty of space inside and it's a very warm and comforting place to be. I'm not sure what it's like on a Friday or Saturday night though. I have heard it's great craic.

Located on the corner of the N52 and Killucan Road, Cloughan is quite a large building, with, *drumroll*...plenty of parking. (Have to admit, All Streets Gourmand was spoiled that night, because parking proved to be a problem almost anywhere else.) Walking in from the wintry rain, Cloughan opens into its intimate bar, which has plenty of seating and a bar top. The staff was friendly and welcomed us right away. We were seated in the restaurant area, which was very cozy and telling of a recent refresh. The place was immaculate, well lit, with a fully featured pub menu - which suited us weary travelers just fine. The bartender was our server (it was a Thursday night), but he was attentive and friendly and gave us all sorts of advice. We started off with their Black Pudding Salad, this was a refreshing surprise - we didn't know what to expect, but the sweet Honey Mustard dressing countered the (rightfully) oily pieces of pudding. The vegetables were fresh and crunchy and it went down quickly. For entrees - the table had a mixture of the menu - Classic Fish & Chips, Chicken and Mushroom Tagliatelle, Steak...all were as they should be for a pub. The Fish & Chips were a perfect blend of fresh fish and thick-cut pub fries - a great way to start the trip off. The pasta and steak were also well liked by the table. Our server/bartender turned me on to another revelation (like the salad), and this was a "Tourist Guinness", he explained that, to cut the bitterness of a standard pint, they add black currant syrup. This smoothes out the Guinness, giving it a berry, hoppy blend of goodness (some describe it as chocolate cake with raspberry filling) - to say we ordered more through-out the rest of trip was an understatement. We had fun asking for it at different bars - where there were different names for it. Some trip sites are a bit unkind on Cloughan, but we scratch our head at their angst - Cloughan is country-side pub with friendly and thorough pub experience.
