He also gave me a hot foam straight razor shave. I had never had one before, so I realistically don't have anything to compare it to, but I will say that I loved it. It was the closest, smoothest shave I've ever had and I will definitely get one again before a special occasion. I was more than impressed by his work. The location of the shop is a little hard to find. It's in a strip mall on State Street and the store front is located between the mall they are in and the neighboring building that houses the Secretary of State's office. Thus you can't see it from State Street. Once you get in and start looking, you'll find it easy enough. The feel of the shop reminds me of one my father used to take me to when I was just a little kid. It has that old time feel; I like that. So guys if you are looking for a barber or just want to try a straight razor shave, you should give East State Street Barber Stylists a try.

(I would argue banker hours - not business hours for people who work.) We both received arguably good haircuts, but here is where it turns to crap. I book our next appointment for 5 weeks later. TWO DAYS before our appointment they call me to reschedule my appointment at their convenience because the owner decided he wanted to go cut hair at some car show. Who the hell runs a business like this?? Now my son and I have overgrown short haircuts that look like crap and I have to try to find a new place to fit us in because this guy put his own personal fun and advertising ahead of his already more than he can handle client base.

That time is long gone my friend..they dont handle new clients very well- so expect no one to greet you properly incase you have any inquiries about the appointments. the overall atmosphere of the barbershop changes due to who shows up, so say if its a friend in the neighborhood dropping off beer for them...then of course its time to take a break and jam to explicit hip hop while scoping out babes. That only changes when say a Parent shows up with their child- they at least put the tall boys in brown bags- so they are considerate to a point. Granted there are talented barbers that come and go within this establishment, its not worth your money to find out if you took the right gamble. Back in December 2024 I had an appointment at this Rockford store for my 5 year old. When I got there the manager decided to rather than take my 5 year old for the hair cut to make us wait over an hour for someone else to cut our hair. I complained on their survey the wait time was "15 minutes" and "on deck" on the app but changed to an hour wait and took over an hour. After sending the complaint the next time in, my oldest son (where we filled out the complaint) was "no longer welcome" at the state street store. All because of a complaint for how long we had to wait for a 5 year old. On top of prices constantly going up, no longer worth the hair cut. still no follow up from the store so must not need the business.

Unless you are a regular customer, don't bother going to this shop. If you are a new customer, communication from the barbers to you is extremely poor. There isn't a known system of how people are selected to be the next in the chair for a haircut. Most of the barbers are too absorbed in their headphone music to even look at the chairs of waiting customers. After 45 minutes, the middle chair freed up, and the barber on the left gave me a head motion to go to the chair. The middle barber said he had an appointment in 15 minutes and couldn't cut my hair. So, I sat back down and waited. The right chair freed up, and a person that arrived after me, went to the chair. A fourth barber arrived to work and people that arrived after me went to him. Their customer communication is beyond terrible!!! I would never recommend this place to anyone. If I could give it negative stars, I would give it a negative three. It was a waste of my vacation morning. Horrible customer service. Some businesses don't realize that customers pay their bills, and the customers that they tick off use their voice to write reviews of their poor experience!!!
