The food pantry was recommended by an acquaintance recently as my husband and I have fallen on some…read moredifficult times. This morning on the way there, we ran out of fuel on the highway about a mile from the church. We walked the rest of the way. Everyone was friendly from the minute we walked up. We got signed in easily and went through the line to collect what seemed like a LOT of food of which we are thankful. When we were finished, a nice woman approached us asking if we were the couple who had run out of fuel. She had a gas can with fuel in it, her trunk open to load our food and gave us a ride to our car. Ms. Gwen, a lead pastor and who I now realize is a co-founder of the church itself went out of her way this morning and made what seemed like the worst morning, a whole lot better. We have been searching for a church such as this. The message "come as you are" is the atmosphere I prefer. Thank you,GWEN, for all of your generosity and assistance this morning! The building has been renovated to support the needs of college students, their primary audience. There is a library and study areas, as well as a place to play games and relax. There is a commercial kitchen and space for people to sit and eat (like breakfast). Depending on when you go, parking may be a hassle because of its proximity to Syracuse University. However, I encourage people to attend and experience what they are offering SU and SUNY ESF students.

As a single, childless adult, I was welcome but not included in the social lives of church members outside of church activities. While the church promoted inclusivity, the social dynamics seemed to favor those who fit a certain mold--married, with children or grandchildren. Being both childless and unmarried was not the norm, and the response wasn't outright rejection, but rather a kind of quiet exclusion.

I love Cathedrals anyway and I love old European style religious buildings, and this is one of the best I've seen in New York state. He took four of us into the church and gave us a personnel tour of the interior, just beautiful. We got to ask questions, and it was a great way to cap our visit with this intimate tour.
