First, lets start with customer service! This shop is owned by the sweetest, most wonderful guy and I can't believe I didn't ask his name but truly, he was wonderful. When he learned it was our first time here, he gave us a tour of the flavors as well as was incredibly patient with my 9 year olds zillion questions and excitement! Then the gelatos and sorbets! Made fresh daily with new flavors every day! No artificial junk here! It wasn't an easy decision because all of the flavors looked so yummy, but I ended up with a White Chocolate Gelato with a Strawberry Sorbet Swirl and my son got the Madagascar Vanilla Gelato and chose to add marshmallows for his toppings. The gelato and sorbet is perfectly creamy and definitely decadent without being heavy or too sweet - a true Italian-style gelato! I'm totally in love! I even got a pineapple sorbet to go for my husband and we live 25 minutes away and it was still heavenly once I got home with it. My husband said it's the bet pineapple sorbet he's ever had anywhere! We had a bit of time to kill before an event up the street and we decided to walk around the Old Shops. Ice Cream is always welcome so we stopped in. We tasted everything and it was all fantastic! Cute little mom and pop place that opened up pretty recently. The owners were so nice and were very patient while my mom took forever to decide what she wanted haha. Absolutely delicious! They have 30 flavors but circulate them so you can try something new every month! I got half gelato and half sorbetto and let me tell you I regretted getting a small! For at least a couple years, my wife and I have been saying that Helotes needs a good gelato shop. What's funny about this is that for this entire time, there has been one! Of course we had to check it out and pray to our widening bellies that it was terrible so that we can make our gym routines easier on us. We walked into this joint at basically closing time and engaged in a lengthy chat with Isaac. Somewhere in the conversation we actually asked him, "What are your credentials?" Oh we did. And he began to tell us stories of how they came to be and his gelato which is basically an Italian-made creation. Located in the Shops at Old Town, this place is sweet! (Pun intended) Went on a Wednesday night where I learned, to favor the wine club night, they offer a Blackberry Cabernet Sauvignon flavor, which I HAD to try. And I was also intrigued by the almond, with almond brittle pieces. Both were heavenly. The atmosphere of the outdoor venue was inviting, with a live acoustic performance and a cool breeze as the sun was setting on a mild summer night. 5/5 will return when my travels bring me back this way. The gelato here is great! It tastes so fresh and is made with only real ingredients for the purest taste and it really pays off.
