Doesn't get any better than this. Amazing gelato and the flavors change often. It is so much fun trying new creations. The staff is wonderful and friendly as can be. It is a great setting as well because they share space and a courtyard with a wine bar and a tap room so there is something for everybody. Not just gelato though... The giant warm pretzels are great too! You will be missing out if you don't give them a try!

What a great little place! Stopped by a couple days ago and the gelato was fantastic! Friendly staff, quick service, reasonable prices and great atmosphere. The evening we went there was a live person playing in the large courtyard in front of the shop. Highly highly recommend this place if your looking for a cool treat in this Texas heat!

Between the service and the gelato (flavor and choices), the 20 minute drive we made solely to come to Congelato was not worth it. It's located in a charming square in Old Helotes. On an early Saturday evening the atmosphere was familial and relaxing... until we walked into Congelato. Two teenage girls were enjoying a snack and were putting food into their mouths with their fingers. Good for them. Take a break! But when they got up, only one of them washed her hands. The other (the dark haired young lady) asked us what she could get started for us. I asked her if she could wash her hands before serving us and the look she gave me could've killed. It was a look of incredulity, irritation, and "I know you didn't!" But I did, and I meant it. I asked her if that were a problem and she said no, but that they usually put on gloves, to which I responded, "That you have to grab with dirty hands." Why are we even having these discussions during Covid? We ordered our gelatos, but when they handed us a pager to let us wait outside, we decided against it. I didn't have much confidence that they wouldn't do anything to our gelatos. We paid a little over $25 for three small and 1 medium. Still left a tip despite the fact my entire family was now offended at the way she responded to me because we're decent people. The mouthfeel and flavors of the gelatos were underwhelming. When comparing to other gelaterias here, like South Alamode and Paciugo, as well as those we've had in Italy, this came nowhere near what we've come to expect. The texture was closer to milk ice than gelato and the coffee and chocolate tasted of decreased quality ingredients. All things considered, the four of us all agreed we'd rather make the trek down to Southtown for gelato than to come back for bad service and so-so gelato. Edited to address the owner's comment: -the customers "interviewed" were not us, nor where the ones he's referring to even in the store at the time of the interaction. Video camera can prove that so I invite them to post it. - the owner went back and forth with me in messages where his story about the rude employee and her serving us changed 3 times. If she had no intention of serving us, why did she ask, "What can I get started for you?" -the owner told me he is half-Black. As a Black man, he should know how detrimental it is to use verbiage like "you intimidated her," "your were aggressive," as he did in private messages. I asked a food service worker to wash her hands before serving us. There's nothing aggressive or intimidating about that. - if a food inspector witnessed what we did and asked the same question, would they be considered "disrespectful" as I was called in private messages? - not once did the owner address the way the employee reacted to my valid question. He can prove I wasn't lying about the way she responded to me when I asked her to wash her hands, which she had not done, nor was making moves to do so. Yet he wants me to give feedback at the time when I was shot dirty looks after asking for basic sanitation to be practiced? Okay.

Located in Quaint Old Town Helotes with all the shops and boutiques. Definitely nice strolling in for some gelato. First impression is the superb customer service by the owner who welcomed us and introduced us to the wonderful choices of gelato. A plus for this place. The gelato is homemade by an Italian friend of theirs and is vegan friendly and all natural flavors. Their flavors range from creamy to fruity. I enjoyed my tangerine basil gelato. So refreshing!

We were in Helotes having Gelato at Congelato. While enjoying our sweets at a picnic table outside the establishment, we saw Steve Browne (retired channel 12 weatherman) walking into "Congelato" with three walking sticks. He had gone to give the owner Yvette one that he had made. As he was leaving we struck up a conversation with Steve letting him know that we missed him as our weatherman; he jokingly said that he is loving doing whatever he wants to whenever he wants to and showed us the two remaining walking sticks. They were very well made and he had signed and dated each of them. He said he was going to start selling them! Well.... on that note, I was his first customer My bestie bought his other walking stick! I think I got a bit side tracked; this shop is a gem and the owners are personable, knowledgeable and very friendly! The owner was a news editor for KSAT 12 and retired to follow her dream of being a store owner entrepreneur. You will love the gelato and meeting the owners; it takes you back to the country feel!

First, lets start with customer service! This shop is owned by the sweetest, most wonderful guy and I can't believe I didn't ask his name but truly, he was wonderful. When he learned it was our first time here, he gave us a tour of the flavors as well as was incredibly patient with my 9 year olds zillion questions and excitement! Then the gelatos and sorbets! Made fresh daily with new flavors every day! No artificial junk here! It wasn't an easy decision because all of the flavors looked so yummy, but I ended up with a White Chocolate Gelato with a Strawberry Sorbet Swirl and my son got the Madagascar Vanilla Gelato and chose to add marshmallows for his toppings. The gelato and sorbet is perfectly creamy and definitely decadent without being heavy or too sweet - a true Italian-style gelato! I'm totally in love! I even got a pineapple sorbet to go for my husband and we live 25 minutes away and it was still heavenly once I got home with it. My husband said it's the bet pineapple sorbet he's ever had anywhere! We had a bit of time to kill before an event up the street and we decided to walk around the Old Shops. Ice Cream is always welcome so we stopped in. We tasted everything and it was all fantastic! I know the flavors change up, but between the three of us we had Pistachio and Stracciatella ice creams, and Coconut and Passion fruit gelatos. Everything was excellent! Highly recommend. read more

Cute little mom and pop place that opened up pretty recently. The owners were so nice and were very patient while my mom took forever to decide what she wanted haha. You can tell the gelato and sorbets here are fresh and I mean FRESH. The berry sorbet tasted like I just picked them fresh and the jasmine gelato had a nice balance of creaminess and sweetness. I definitely recommend grabbing some dessert here and walking around Old Town Helotes! read more

Absolutely delicious! They have 30 flavors but circulate them so you can try something new every month! I got half gelato and half sorbetto and let me tell you I regretted getting a small! For at least a couple years, my wife and I have been saying that Helotes needs a good gelato shop. What's funny about this is that for this entire time, there has been one! Of course we had to check it out and pray to our widening bellies that it was terrible so that we can make our gym routines easier on us. We walked into this joint at basically closing time and engaged in a lengthy chat with Isaac. Somewhere in the conversation we actually asked him, "What are your credentials?" Oh we did. And he began to tell us stories of how they came to be and his gelato which is basically an Italian-made creation. Who knew that in Old Town Helotes a creamy delight was hiding in plain sight all this time. We will be back again. And again. And again. Guess 2020 is the year of fitness? read more

Located in the Shops at Old Town, this place is sweet! (Pun intended) Went on a Wednesday night where I learned, to favor the wine club night, they offer a Blackberry Cabernet Sauvignon flavor, which I HAD to try. And I was also intrigued by the almond, with almond brittle pieces. Both were heavenly. The atmosphere of the outdoor venue was inviting, with a live acoustic performance and a cool breeze as the sun was setting on a mild summer night. 5/5 will return when my travels bring me back this way. I'd definitely come back because the quality of the gelato was excellent. The only area that could use some improvement was the customer service flow. When we walked in, there was one employee working, a customer with three young children who was taking quite a while deciding on flavors, and another customer who appeared to be waiting to pay. I don't know how long he had already been waiting, but by the time he finally paid, he had nearly finished eating his gelato. While the family was still deciding, the customer herself kindly told us to go ahead and place our order so she wouldn't keep holding us up. We appreciated that gesture and stepped up to order. I ordered chocolate and stracciatella. When I asked for chocolate, the employee asked if I was sure and whether I'd had it before. She did offer me a sample, which was thoughtful, but it caught me off guard since I wasn't expecting to have to justify my flavor choice. I also asked if they had cones, and she said they didn't. She then asked what size cup I wanted. I replied that I'd like one scoop of each flavor, not realizing the scoop count and cup size were separate choices. It took a couple of exchanges before I understood what she meant. A little more explanation upfront would have made the ordering process much smoother. After our gelato was prepared, I expected we'd be able to pay and move on. Instead, the employee immediately went back to helping the family continue sampling and deciding on flavors before ringing us up. By the time we were finally able to pay, my husband had almost finished eating his gelato. The employee was genuinely friendly and patient, especially with the family, and I understand it's not easy managing everything alone. I just think some additional training on balancing multiple customers--such as quickly checking out customers whose orders are already complete before returning to someone who is still deciding--would make the experience much smoother for everyone. Overall, the gelato was delicious, the shop was clean, and I'd happily come back. I just hope the service flow improves because the product itself is definitely worth the visit.

I recently visited Congelato and had the most amazing Italian gelato! The flavors were so fresh and so much better than any other Italian ice I've ever had! The owner was so nice and he explained each flavor to us and recommended the best ones. The shop is also beautiful and inviting and I definitely plan on coming back for more delicious desserts! The first time I visited, the shop was completely empty with no customers or staff in sight. I waited for ten minutes during which time I snapped some really great photos of the place for Yelp, but ended up leaving when no one ever came out. The café was cute and had their monkey mascot everywhere from murals to plushies, the pastries in the case looked yummy, the dark chocolate samples from around the world were interesting to try, and I really liked the idea of making my own chocolate like they advertised so I decided to try again another day. Unfortunately, the café is a little more out of the way and free parking in the downtown area is limited so it made it difficult to return as soon as I'd hoped to. On the second visit there were two customers and a single manager in shop, and I finally got to order. I opted for their Matcha Latte with Hazelnut which was, at first, okay at best. It was pretty smooth for the first half of the drink or so but was grassy in flavor, and the Hazelnut was dark chocolate like the rest of their chocolates in shop, so beware if you like a milkier chocolate flavor. I would have been less harsh on this drink if it wasn't for the fast that towards the end I ended up sipping a HUGE clump of unblended matcha. It was so bad I ended up pouring out the last of the drink to assess the unmixed matcha situation and was even more appalled to see the bottom of the cup. A few matcha flecks? Fine. But I've NEVER had so much matcha caked down at the bottom of a drink before this one. It was insulting that the manager who made this drink thought this was okay. As an ex-barista, I've said this before and I'll say it again: If you don't know how to make a drink, it does not need to be on your menu. It doesn't matter if you specialize in coffee and chocolate, that does not give you a pass on the other things. If it's on your menu, you need to know how to make it. 5 Stars for aesthetic, 2 Stars for the second worst matcha beverage I've had in my life.
