But the whole process which has been going on for over a month now has been terrible. Our wall was falling and the steps were separating from the wall. So we decided to finally get them redone. We had steps and a stone wall. We met with Mike and he gave us options of material for the wall. We picked bricks and of course they weren't in stock so we asked to wait for them to be in stock rather than picking new ones. Mike was fine with that. Him and his crew started with the demo. They learned that our original wall didn't have a footer so he had to add a footer to the price. Okay. Not a problem. Paid a deposit via his website which was easy. He started to do the steps. Looking at them they were uneven and crooked. Mike claimed they weren't done and then decided he wanted to bull nose the steps. Instead of demoing the steps completely, he chipped up the first layer and added new concrete to add the bull nose and level them out. They look absolutely horrible. They are two different colors. Not smooth and still uneven. Might i also add that they claimed steps are their specialty. The wall looked nice when they were done with it. But the more you look at it you began to notice small things that made you say, hmmm... The new wall was smaller than our original wall. And one side was shorter than our original wall. Okay. Whatever. There also was only one or two mesh areas for water to drain. Paid him in full PLUS a nice tip. Thought, okay. Whatever. We'll fix the steps next yr. But after our first rain storm issues began to arrise. We noticed that one of the caps on the wall was cracked. Which then soon broke. We also noticed that the caps are NOT secured. We could lift just about every one. Now we're very annoyed. Mike comes back to fix everything. But he managed to make it look worse. The cracked one was never fixed (as of 10/4.) The mortar that he used was just plopped ontop of the bricks and not cleaned up or smoothed out. There are holes between my caps and bricks. We legit can see through it. They are lifted and just look terrible! There is mortar pouring over the sides. The caps aren't straight anymore either. They are shifted when they used to be at least pretty straight. Not to mention the mess they left. Dirt everywhere. Cement all over my driveway that we are now having to chip up and power wash everything. I was so excited to improve the outside of my house and now it looks worse than before. I do not recommend Gallagher Masonry unless you don't care about things being straight, done well and cleaned up.

I had mentioned to Barry that I would be redoing the pool later in the summer/early fall and would love for him to do our stamped concrete. I had reached out on August 22nd, and Barry responded and even sent some great work they had recently done around a pool. I tried to schedule a time and heard less and less, until I received a call from a Samantha at a different number. We set an appointment for 9/16 at 3:30pm. I received a call from Samantha at 2:30pm on 9/16 saying that something had happened at a job site and Barry had to be there to manage it. I get that, I appreciated the call, and realized that I would want Barry to do the same thing if the issue were at my house. She happily rescheduled to 9/19 at 3:30pm. On 9/19, I waited and waited, but Barry never showed up. I tried calling and texting both phone numbers to try and get a hold of him; but no answers and messages were never returned. I have tried on 5 separate occasions to get a hold on both numbers, but I have not received any communication back. I was essentially ghosted, and we are now trying to find who to use to do our pool.

He complained about how much the job was costing him when he would rent a machine, use it for 4 hours and then it sat untouched for a few days. His company has great prices and he fixed the shotty work that Barry at south jersey did. I promise you will regret hiring this clown. Sure, it wasn't cheap, but I also had a lot of work done to a house that I just bought last month. I know if I hired one of those cheapo $45 guys I would have been ripped off with several additional charges, not to mention subpar work. I wanted an actual mason to clean my chimney, not some random air duct guy. The service was spectacular, and Mr. Cowan only performed services that I needed, nothing optional or frivolous. From the get-go, I could tell that he knew that he was doing. He was able to tell instantly that my fireplace/oven wasn't used in a very long time (which was true, as the previous owners of the house had not used it once in the 12 years that they lived there). He was available to service my chimneys the very next day! I didn't have all the cash up front since my chimney needed re-sealing (I didn't know until he checked), and he allowed me to mail the balance to him -- because he trusts his customers! The best part of my experience was that he gave me a brief world history on the bricks in my fireplace. The bricks were shipped from England 300 years ago when buildings were being knocked down in Europe, and these bricks basically built Philadelphia and South Jersey as we know it today. This means that my fireplace bricks can be from as far back as the 1600s! Some of the bricks were older than others, and some had paint on them that was from before the Revolutionary War. He pointed these bricks out to me, along with the ones that were very old such as the salmon bricks. I thought this was so cool that my fireplace/oven were basically antiques. I would absolutely use him again in a heartbeat. This was my first experience with him, and it definitely won't be my last. I'll make sure to call him again in a couple of years to have my chimney swept. I *HIGHLY* recommend him if you want the job done RIGHT!
