The general level of service in restaurants is higher in Germany than most of the US based establishments, but even with that in mind, the level of service and attention to detail at Heidehof stands above that you will experience at all but the finest eateries.

Service was a bit on the slow side this visit, but my guest and I were in no particular hurry. Guests with a limited lunch hours might be pushing the envelope. It's not fast food but it's good food. I had potato soup as an appetizer and my guest had a specialty German soup he is fond of. We both ordered sirloin for our main meal, bypassing the day's special offerings. The sirloins we ordered included nice salads as well. We both had a soft drink. I had just picked up a case of the sniffles as I realized I had no tissues with me.. The waitress provided me with a travel package of Kleenex immediately upon request. Total bill was €39. I tipped 15%.

I asked for a diet coke, and when she brought me a regular I asked her if she didn't have diet. She then realized she'd brought me the wrong bottle, but asked if I wanted her to exchange it. Uhm, yeah? I ordered three types of fish with potatoes. The fish were all very bland. The potatoes came with bacon, and since I don't eat meat I had to send them back. The meatless potatoes arrived after I had finished the rest of my food. My friend said the bacon potatoes were very good and so was the meat he ordered. Despite the flaws I decided to order desert. I was obviously still studying the menu when the waitress came and asked if I had made my decision. We were a bit surprised, as she had never asked if we were enjoying the food, or whether I wanted another drink. The second star is for the desert; which was the only part of the meal I really enjoyed.
