The Mercantile feels like a step back in time into an old country store. There's also a gift shop that sells a variety of items including antiques, jams, pickled items, honey, and more. Through a hallway you can get to the Heritage Building, a life-size re-creation of Springville's Main Street circa 1920-1960's. We spent the most time in this space learning about notable Springville residents. We were unaware how historically rich Springville was until this tour! Each storefront is unique. Using your phone's camera, you can scan the QR codes which will open audio tours to explain what you're looking at and share a ton of interesting information and history. The docent and curator were very friendly and knowledgeable. We spent 1.5 hours here before going next door to visit the Warner House, where we spent another 20 minutes. All the buildings have so much to see. We really enjoyed the visit and learned a lot about Springville's rich history! This was definitely worth the trip!

The museum is small, but absolutely rich with history. It was a Passenger Depot for the Buffalo, Rochester, & Pittsburgh Railway in the early 1900's. The inside of the museum still retains the look of a train station in that day, with most of the rooms still in tact! You can see where luggage was processed, where passengers would have bought tickets, and even sit and wait for trains! There are plenty of train-related relics and memorabilia that fills cases in the museum, decorates the walls, etc. There is a huge model train display in the center of the room, but it was under maintenance when we visited. What adds to the experience here is the train cars you can explore here! I've never been inside of an old train car before, and this place has several you can walk through. Some of them have old cots from where passengers would sleep, ovens and 'kitchens', closets, even toilets. It's super cool to be able to see how people would travel back in the day! I definitely recommend visiting this museum at least once, even if you're not that in to trains. But if you are, this is definitely the spot for you!

Its dedicated to the history of WWII and the collection of artifacts and materials from that time period. They do have large collection of badges, insignias and uniforms from all combatants during the war. Eldred was the site of a munitions factory that ran non-stop from 1942 to mid-1945 that produced bombs and shell casings that were used in the war on the Allied side. It has a library where you can go around and check out books and maps if you're really interested in a certain topic. It is a great place to go if you have a Social Studies project to do and you want to go check it out. plus theres a cool tank half-bursting out of the wall, haha.

Much larger than expected, the collection includes somewhere between 60,000 and 70,000 artifacts from World War II, all donated or on loan. Obviously focusing on military history, the museum is comprehensive, well thought out, and displays are well-presented. highlights include vehicles and a submarine periscope from World War II, many displays honoring locals who served (putting a human face on the conflict, uniforms, weapons, and other memorabilia. The Holocaust room is separated, so parents could make a decision as to when their children are ready to see it, and is very thorough and well done. The associate curator and the two volunteers present were super friendly, helpful, and informative. At a time when those who fought this war are passing on, the events are an abstraction to many children, and anti-Semitic, fascist or neofascist elements are once again on the rise in Hungary, Western Europe, and even our own United States, this museum does important work.

There's is so much packed into this big, dark block of a building, its amazing. There is a one hour movie that really is a well made, must see...preferably before exploring the exhibition. Curtiss was involved in so many different things during stages in his relatively short life, and the museum gives substantial display area to each and all of his interests. From humble beginnings to legendary flight we learn about one of Hammondsport's most famous resident. It is well worth the stop to see the collection and history. Our family found it interesting from each of their perspectives. My favorite is the restoration of a 1943 Curtiss P-40 E "War Hawk". I purposely didn't take pictures as the experience is well worth seeing for yourself.

So on 9/19/2021 they were holding a special event for old fire trucks, I headed out there. They had an assortment of vehicles going back in time. The old trolley car which you can ride on, fire trucks, roadway machinery, an original Greyhound bus, and more. I was impressed. Good for the history buffs, and families. And I give special credit to the men and women who donate their time to make this happen.

But there is a lot to see here and admission comes with a really nice ride on the tram. They have a couple cars from the old Midtown monorail which brought back a lot of memories. Lots of cars and engines you can climb on, and a lot of the bells still work. Some other neat old antique vehicles as well. All the people that were working/volunteering were super nice as well. Overall great way to spend an afternoon.

From WW2 era stuff right up to the present day. The facility is huge and comfortable. Fortunately for me the day I was there was temparate so I could spend plenty of time outside behind the museum with the birds stored there as well. Just the right mix of real planes and displays of artifacts and informative plaques. This would be an enjoyable visit for anyone even mildly interested in history, but if history is your passion? Buckle up for an incredible amount of fun!

They also have interactive elements like the flight simulator and VR experience (extra cost). A lot of the staff is made up of retired pilots and mechanics who are incredibly friendly and eager to share their knowledge. My brother and boyfriend loved getting to sit in the actual planes. There's even a small cafe inside with a great view of the runway. A perfect way to spend the day and pay tribute to our veterans as well. Even though it is a bit far from Toronto, it's definitely worth the visit. You can also stay as long as you want, go in and out for food breaks if you need.

The Wilder Museum is one of the very best little local types of museums I've ever seen. It has over…read more3,000 exhibits, most of local interest but others that would score international interest such as the Joseph DeFrees antique gun collection. It's no ordinary collection. The guns of this collection are striking examples of the exceptionally rare and ultimate works of gunsmithing and metal engraving. Besides the 1963 Mercedes favorite car of National Forge owner Robert Wilder, there are all sorts of examples of the works and products of national forge. Then there are Indian artifacts and histories covering nearly 8,000 years of the county bordering Seneca Indian Nation. There is a good history of Seneca Chief Cornplanter along with the monument dedicated to his memory. With so many significant things you should at least plan upon a 3 hour visit as the war or military not only takes some time but contains exhibits that are real eye openers as to the history of the many military engagements depicted. I found the antique medical area, much of which I remember to be downright frightening. It's unbelievable how primitive our medical sciences were only as far back as the 40's and 50's. Overall it's a great museum, well worth seeing and a Yelp Five Stars with me.
