All outdoor public swimming pools run by the city are free to all, open six days a week throughout the summer swimming season, and follow very similar rules and protocol. This review will focus on Roosevelt Swimming Pool and what sets it apart from other city swimming pools. As with most city pools, you are required to sign in at the front desk with name, age group, and gender. These roles help the parks department obtain funding to continue operation of the pools, so it is very important to sign in. Roosevelt Pool is a throwpack to 1950's pool design. Larger than most city pools, Roosevelt also is kidney shaped with several rows of concrete bleachers. This is one of the more popular pools and there are always dozens of people in the water, especially at the shallow end. It can get very crowded in the shallow area on weekends and holidays. The depth ranges from 3ft to about 10ft. There is usually ample room for swimming laps although the pool sides in the deep end can become crowded with teenagers, and we all know how they can be. Although it is a bigger pool, parking is limited, and you may find yourself waiting or walking up a stretch of hill to the entrance. There are male and female changing rooms that double as bathrooms. Roosevelt Pool is feeling its age, and you will want to be careful not to cut yourself on the rough cracks on the walls and floor of the pool. They hurt! The pool has a small waterslide for the kids, but they rarely open it up all season. Not sure why, but they just don't seem to like to. The manager for this pool is not the friendliest, and that attitude is passed along to the lifeguards who can be surly but are generally nice. Fruit and water are allowed in the pool area, but no other food. They have hourly or bi-hourly breaks for pH leveling, and you will spend between 20-30 minutes of time out of the water per break. The concrete can be very hot and shade is limited.

It is one of several public swimming pools run by San Antonio Parks and Rec. All outdoor public swimming pools run by the city are free to all, open six days a week throughout the summer swimming season, and follow very similar rules and protocol. This review will focus on Fairchild Swimming Pool and what sets it apart from other city swimming pools. As with most city pools, you are required to sign in at the front desk with name, age group, and gender. These roles help the parks department obtain funding to continue operation of the pools, so it is very important to sign in. A family favorite, and not just because it was the closest to our home. Fairchild Pool has had consistent and mature staff over the past few seasons so the lifeguards are no greenhorns to the job. To pool is fairly basic and a short walking distance from the parking lot, but your car remains in sight which can be important in this area. Fairchild Pool has a large shallow swimming area and a decent sized deep area ranging from 3ft to 9ft. This pool used to have a diving board but it was removed after a tragic accident during the 2017 season. The good that came out of it is the pool was completely renovated over the spring in 2018 with new pump equipment and a pool lift, making this one of the more fresh feeling pools to swim in. It can be incredibly refreshing to dive in after a long day. Fairchild Pool is one of a handful a pools not running at the normal 1pm to 7pm hours, it opens at 2pm and runs until 8pm. the entire pool is surrounded by concrete which can become blisteringly hot in the summer. Be warned. The west side of the pool has decent tree coverage for the bi-hourly swimming breaks times for the pool pH to settle. Food is not allowed, although you may bring drinking water. There are both Men's and Women's bathrooms with a small dressing area, and a shower off area near the pool entrance. Radios seem pretty well tolerated here, and someone is usually rocking music at either side of the pool. Fairchild Pool is rarely busy as Lincoln Pool is just up the street, so there is always ample room to play or swim laps. The southeast corner of the pool does have a problem with wasps every now and then, but it's not too bad. Interesting tidbit, from the south side of the pool, you can see the Mass Grave of Alamo Defenders in the Oddfellow Cemetery.

I'm calling and no one answer me we want to know if it's open cause it is really hot outsideread more

This review will focus on Southside Lions Swimming Pool and what sets it apart from other city swimming pools. As with most other pools, you are required to sign in at the front desk with name, age group, and gender. These roles help the parks department obtain funding to continue operation of the pools, so it is very important to sign in. Southside Lions is one of only a handful of outdoor public pools with a diving board. Usually, the diving board is open for the second half of the hour if patrons wish to dive. If the diving board isn't open, request it from a lifeguard. They may or may not open it based on several factors, but one of them is that patrons want to dive, so don't hesitate to ask. While the diving board is open, the deep end is closed to other swimmers. The deepend at Southside Lions is deeper than most other pools bottoming out at 10ft. Great pool for diving. There is usually ample room for lap swimming, and the trees on the west side of the pool provide shade to swimmers on hot afternoons. As such, at the beginning of the season, this pool may be colder than others that do not provide shade. The changing rooms are located near the pool and (at least the Men's side, I can't speak for the Women's side) provide bathroom facilities as well as a shower to rinsing off the chlorine. Many pools require hourly or bi-hourly breaks to balance the pH levels in the water. These are usually done on the hour and all patrons are required to leave the water for around twenty minutes. Ice cream trucks with snacks are usually idle in the parking lot if you're looking for something to snack on while you wait. Do note that only fresh fruit and water are allowed past in the swimming pool area. Southside Lions Pool also has a toddler pool with shallow water and sprinklers so the little ones don't miss out on any fun. Weekend afternoons can get a little busy and once a week, but normally, there is ample room to swim. We have been there before when we were the only family there. Once a week a free water aerobics class is provided while still keeping the pool open for all patrons. Call their desk for details. The lifeguards at this pool are also not obnoxious at this pool which is a big plus. This pool is located on the South East side of the city. If you are looking for a similar pool on the West or North side, I have found that Dellview has an identical layout, including diving board and toddler splash pool. This is one of my family's favorite pools to visit.

Very impressive. We were swimming in their outside pool this weekend with 20+ lanes. You could see all perfectly from the stands and a nice cool breeze blows over the trees while you watch. Plenty of room to spread out. The meet ran a little longer than anticipated, so I would recommend the meet organizer allows more time in their schedule or reduce the number of 10 minute breaks between events. Otherwise, everything else was great. I look forward to my kids swimming there again. Definitely worth the drive to San Antonio for a swim meet.

Have used the facility for swimming laps during open swim hours, which is $4 each time you come. My only complaint is that I wish there were a way you could use a debit/credit card to pay; I don't always have cash or check on me. Ok now for the pools- There is an indoor, outdoor lap pool and diving well. The time clock works great and the pool is clean. Water temperature is on par with any other pool I've swam in. Highly recommend if you are using to swim laps. Many lanes are open when I've come! Thumbs up from this swimmer!

They also offer diving and swimming lessons, as well as a big area to just play in. I went to the Aquatic Center with a large group of teenagers that I was supervising and I was surprised at how assertive the staff were. They must have experience with unruly teenagers dive bombing off of the bleachers, because they were non too friendly while explaining the rules. Fortunately, the kids were so excited to be able to swim that they didn't mind sitting through a 15 -minute lecture. After that was over, the lady reluctantly released our group to get ready and jump in. The dressing rooms are fine, nothing special, but they do have that weird odor that comes from stagnant water sitting on the floor. I desperately attempted not to think about athlete's feet and other fungi while getting ready. They do have those cool machines that dry your swimming suits though, so that is a plus. I was excited to swim laps and dive, while most of the kids just enjoyed the recreational area. The Aquatic Center has pretty limited hours for family swim time (mostly just on weekends from 1 to 5 p.m. but with extended hours in the summer), but if you are interested in swimming laps, you'll have more options. This place isn't really fancy, but it definitely gets the job done. You can visit for only $4 or get a 16 visit punch card for $36 online. That's a great price, better than you will find most anywhere else. So if you want to get a few pounds from your waist but not your wallet, The Aquatic Center is your place.
