I love the unique ambience, bright yolk colors throughout the well designed restaurant. The menu has numerous enticing items, and my meal and those of the table beside us were beautifully presented. My friend and I agreed even before we got our food that we had to come back whether to try more breakfast items or just for a specialty coffee. I was pleased to see a section on the menu for healthier options, and my avocado toast with fresh fruit on the side was quite good. My friend was very pleased with her chipotle biscuits and gravy even if it was spicy. The other customers there were happy and pleased, at least those around us. As for quibbles, my avocado toast came with a poached egg, but it was overcooked. The egg was small and two eggs would have been better. It also came with Mexican cheese, but it was barely there or non-existent. I did not find the regular coffee to taste good enough for what I paid. One of my must-dos when hosting guests. Everyone always loves it and this location is the biggest and best. Don't let the name scare into thinking the food is too spicy, its just excellent Lating style brunch. Huevos rancheros and anything with chorizo will not disappoint. The first couple of times I dined at Con Huevos, I was highly impressed and bubbling over with good things to say. That was in the beginning, but now it's beginning to feel like that feeling you get when you're head over heels about a new love interest, only for them to flip the script after a while and start treating you like they couldn't care less, despite the fact that you've been doing your part and have done nothing to deserve their disregard. You give at least as much as you receive (you pay, and you tip commensurately, if not more). Yes, they're still bringing good looks to the "table" (the food is still good) but the attitude? The service? That part is somewhere en route to MSD, if not already there. That's my subjective experience. Now, for the facts to support it. Two visits ago (close to two months ago), I walked in, famished, and sat at the bar. I ordered a beverage and then a power bowl. Twenty minutes later, I was still waiting. Then, a super sweet gentleman sits down next to me, orders food, and shortly after, his food arrives--a power bowl, brought by someone from the kitchen. He starts eating, and I immediately notice a server looking panicked, whispering to another employee that the kitchen gave the food to the wrong person. The gentleman realized what had happened and was visibly plagued by the situation. He announced it, asking if I had ordered the same thing. I acknowledged that yes, I had ordered a power bowl. He said he had noticed there was no chicken in his power bowl, though he had asked for chicken. I hadn't. He started apologizing profusely to me, which made me feel badly for him, because obviously he didn't owe me any apology. He was in no way at fault. He had stopped eating, hands in lap, and said he felt like it would be rude of him to keep eating. He asked how long I had been waiting. This poor, caring gentleman's meal had been ruined because of someone who apparently wasn't focused enough on doing their job right. Or maybe the supervision was off. Whatever the issue was, I was hoping to pretend it never happened, and just get my own food as soon as possible, so that we could both have a pleasant time. My power bowl finally came up, and I discovered that it was one of the best things on the menu. But sadly, the gent seated next to me seemed to have not fully recovered from the unwarranted embarrassment by the time he got up to leave, bidding me a kind farewell. I hope his subsequent visits there have been or will be much better. Too bad my next visit was worse. Once again, I entered the restaurant, was pleasantly greeted by a nice hostess, and took a seat at the bar. A server took my drink order. One horchata latte, please. I then placed my journal on the bar and went to wash my hands. I returned, glad that my beverage hadn't been placed there in my absence. Quite some time passed before 'a' coffee beverage was brought to me. It wasn't the one I had ordered, and in retrospect, I should have said so (maybe someone else had been waiting for the drink). I let it sit there until I could order food, but I sat for too long before the server returned and asked if I was ready to order. She did acknowledge that I was served the wrong beverage, and then brought the correct one. The first (incorrect) coffee arrived at 10:10. Server arrived at 10:27 to take my food order. Food arrived at 10:43. It didn't take me long to eat half of the meal, and I was hoping to put the rest in a box to carry out. But I and the unfinished food just sat there. And sat there. And sat there. By that time, the restaurant had gotten busy but I didn't think it was busy enough to warrant just leaving a customer waiting indefinitely. Finally, the nice hostess was near me, and I asked her how I might get a box. She politely retrieved one nearby and handed it to me. I boxed up the food and waited some more for the check to arrive. Thank goodness I wasn't in a big hurry, because it was noon by the time I was able to pay and leave. A male employee just happened to acknowledge me, and so I asked him if I could get the check. He politely presented me the point of sale device, and I finally paid. Normally, I tip at least 22%. This time? 6% for about 3% effort. I hope 100% of the tip went to him, because he actually went above and beyond by acknowledging me when he wasn't even my server. I'm not really feeling the overall ambiance here lately. At least not at the Hwy 42 location. I don't know what has gone wrong there lately. But the three stars I'm giving really should be about two and a half. Lacklustre service is one reason why it's important to have options and market competition. I'm starting to think about the other fish in the sea. read more

I've wanted to try this restaurant since they originally opened, and last weekend I finally got my chance. We first attempted the Frankfort Avenue location, but the line was out the door so we ended up driving to the Brownsboro Road site. There was plenty of parking in front and in the rear of the restaurant. I'm not sure how it works at Frankfort, but at this location you put your name in for a table and then order at the counter. Despite arriving at 12:30 on a Sunday, we had a 10 minute wait. We took that time to drool over the menu. Two in our party ordered the Huevos Rancheros, which is corn tortillas, salsa, refried black beans, avocado, queso fresco and eggs. They made it to the clean plate club! I ordered the Omni-Vore sandwich with brioche bread, bacon, medium egg, cheese, jalapeño aioli and home fries. Our food came out incredibly fast, maybe 7 minutes after we ordered it. Everything looked and smelled delicious and it was. My only complaint with the sandwich was the bread wasn't everything that I had hoped for, but it was filling and satisfying. Great spot for a weekend breakfast! I'm also going to say they are kid friendly despite having a limited kids menu. I had the chicken tinga enchiladas with the Rosa sauce. They were excellent! Great flavor and generous portion size. Just because we were there and I love French toast, I had to try it. Great bread consistency. Held its shape through the entire dish. The sauce on the plate was a nice surprise. They brought syrup but that with the powdered sugar was plenty, no need for the syrup. In fact, didn't even try it! This is the place to be if you enjoy Mexican influences to your breakfast favorites. Sadly I have no pictures or names of menu items from the last time I went so I will go from memory. Last visit I tried one of the egg sandwiches and my friend tried another. They were good, on brioche bread which kicked them up a notch, but at the end of the day still an egg sandwich. Updating my review (not much of an update). Con Huevos is absolute heaven and it is a non-negotiable priority to come here any and every time I am in Louisville. I always get the chipotle poached huevos. I've tried a few other menu items, all excellent, but nothing compares to these. The tres leches pancakes are delicious too, and I could probably definitely eat these as well as the chipotle poached huevos, but then I wouldn't be able to eat for the rest of the day. Finally some decent Mexican food in louisville. So I would come just for the orange juice it is fresh and some of the best that I have had. The enchiladas were great the meat was flavorful and the Verde sauce was good. Once you get a text from the restaurant, you then order your food and wait to be seated. The food came quickly and was great. I had Los Benditos (always have to try an eggs Benedict). The poached eggs were perfection and the portion was just right. My handsome date had the Burrito de Mama. Home fries were to DIE FOR!!! So crispy outside and soft on the inside. Of course I had to try a Guadalajara Mimosa. It was strong and a bit tart for my taste, but a little sweetener and we were OFF! The wait was only 20 minutes at the peak of brunch time. Both were so wonderful I must always stop here when passing through. The food here is wonderful! I highly recommend the Huevo Rancheros or the Eggs Benedict. I also love getting mimosas here as they have great fresh squeezed OJ. My one complaint is ordering at the counter when you walk in and not having a server even though it is a full sit down restaurant. This just makes it not as fun if you want to do a Sunday brunch with friends. I had the drunk burrito which is a flour tortilla stuffed with black beans, rice, and your choice of carnitas or chicken. I chose carnitas because 2ho doesn't love slow cooked pork with what I thought was all the seasons (seasoning). Unfortunately, only winter was served on this visit. The burrito was cold and flavorless. Even upon reheating, the flour tortilla overpowered everything. The carnitas added great texture but no flavor. Highly recommend! Went here for the first time with a friend over the weekend for brunch and loved it. Lots of options, including Mexican dishes as well as traditional breakfast dishes. Prices were super reasonable, especially compared to similar places. I love the setup of ordering at a counter and paying when ordering instead of sitting down and being waited on. My friend got the drunk burrito, which is huge, and ate the entire thing. She said it was delicious! I got the trifecta with potatoes instead of bacon (I love that they allow substitutions - vegetarian friendly!) I wasn't a huge fan of the eggs but the potatoes were really good and pancakes were AMAZING. There was a sweet taste to them that was unique and very yummy. I was impressed that my dish came out with little prepackaged condiments - very pandemic friendly and convenient. Overall, portions were very generous.
